I just thought of something, partially off topic. Would ME3 be released before the next generation of game systems?

yes

Usually, wouldn't the next systems be out soon. The Xbox 360 has had a long reign.

MS and Sony are depending on their motion gaming platforms to get more life out of their systems. Game development has gotten a lot more expensive  and it's in everyones best interest for this generation to last as long as possible. It makes no sense for Bioware to delay ME3 till next gen.

This worries me and here's why:

The PS3 does not have ME1, and many of the choices from ME1 have carried over to ME2, particularly the endings.  If you start a game in ME2, you get the default "mediocre" game: i.e., the council will be dead, you will no longer be a specter, and Wrex will be dead by default as well.  Because ME1 is not on the PS3, those default settings will be automatic and carry on to ME3.

Now here's the worrisome part: in the PS3 version of ME3, the council will always be dead, Shepard will have always lost specter status, and ME 1 romances will have never developed.  Therefore, if Bioware/EA decided to incorporate those factors into ME 3, they would only be present on the 360 and PC version of the game, not on the PS3 version.  Bioware/EA may decide it's a waste of money and resources to spend time developing parts of the game that will only show up on two systems, so they default everything for ME3 to match the PS3 game.  That is, the council and Wrex will end up dying at the beginning of ME3 even if you saved them, ME 1 romances will never be finished, etc.  With EA being in charge and the money making machine that it is, I can see this as a very real possibility, though I really hope it doesn't happen.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!!!!!! I've been a fan of ME since the very beginning, I would be so pissed off if what you said happen in the future :(

well from what I've seen today there are plenty of fortune tellers and psychics here on the forums so I'm sure they wouldnt mind looking into the future and letting you know.

HAHA, please. I'm going bananas here.

Do you think that Sony and Microsoft will benefit from the motion controls and gain some of Wii's general audience?

Bioware would not let the default storyline become the base for all PS3 players. They must have some way of choosing what happened.

Before Bioware was bought by EA, I'd agree.  But EA is a huge business, whose primary goal is to make lots of money, not satisfy fans.  They set the budget for Bioware and are in charge of finances.  From a business perspective, they could leave out all the ME 1 decisions for all games, and ME 3 would probably sell just as many copies.  Therefore, it would be a waste of money for them to include ME 1 choices in ME3 when one console won't even have them.  It would only be to appease the fans, and I don't think EA really cares that much.

I'm just glad I don't have a PS3, because if I hadn't played Mass effect 1 I wouldn't have touched Mass effect 2. HAHA sucks for those who have a PS3. Bioware That was just pure genius. Giving them a ME 2, but not the memory with ME 1. Talk about messing with the sony lovers. I guess this is bioware saying how much they hate PS fans. HAHA! You guys got ownd by the XBOX and PC crowds.

Meanwhile, Gabe Newell a few months ago have decided to give PS3 a superior version of Portal 2 with steam support, putting it line with the PC version.

I thought sony fans were vile when it came to losing an exclusive, but this forum is a representation of fans from the xbox side, clamouring and spouting out vile. Which comes to show, never even entrust a group of teenagers with videogame consoles, internet and anomity, because they'll make idiotic and vile comments like Tooneyman says, whilst stroking their non-existent alpha dicks and acting 'all smug'.

I can't disagree with that. However, if Bioware was not bought out by EA, there probably wouldn't be a ME 2 port for PS3.

Maybe Bioware will make different types of ME1 saved files that you can dowload and use for ME2 just like the PC has.

I would say no, but then again I also said that the Wii would flop, so what do I know.

Furthermore, the release of a PS3 version of ME 2 means it will take much longer for ME 3 to come out. Not only is it going to take time to adapt and market the game, but if PS3 ME2 isn't coming out until next January, it will probably be well into 2012 before ME3 comes out. That's because PS3 ME2 will need to start at full price, then EA will sell it that way until it stops selling well, then drop it to $40, then wait until that isn't selling well, then drop it to $30 or $20... In other words, they'll squeeze every dime out of that version until they even start to think about marketing ME3.

Actually, that would be a good idea, but would still leave the PS3 players in the dark about the storyline.

The shelf life of games made by major publishers is less than a year before they drop off

Which is why you see a COD every year

Well that's how any product works: you don't want your new product to take sales away from your old product if the old product is still making money.  If they can find ways to keep making money off of ME 2 after it's released, i.e. releasing it on the PS3 and dropping the price several times over a period of months before they release ME3, they're going to do it.

You don't know that, so stop acting like you do. We don't know; who is doing the port, how many dev teams Bioware has, how much exclusive content the PS3 port is getting, or when ME3 is even supposed to release. Also, today one of the Bioware guys directly said that ME3's development will not be impacted by this. You may not believe it, but it's all the info we've got at this point.
