I would also like some explanation about the "exclusive content" issue, Bioware. Just out of curiosity.

agreed also if we get it for the PS3 will we get our DLC or information from ME1. I wanted something else announced. This made me angry because you wasted announcement time to announce something that was not needed. I hope you guys get a whole bunch more money because your wasting your demographics time with nonsense.

Well, for PS3 players, there aren't ME1 choices as they can never play that game, so the fear is that BW will cut down on the importance of ME1 choices generally, across all platforms.

Unless they set of questions at the start of a new game to allow them to 'confirm Sheperd's history', and tweak the bigger decisions, but otherwise, I agree.

Yeah they're not gonna do that.  That's wasted energy when they can just TELL YOU WHAT YOU DID IN ME1.

Oh my god. BIOWARE YOU SHACVE BETRAYED US ALL WHY DID TYOIYU GIVE YUP OUR XBOX EXCLUSIVE TITLES TO THE PLAYSTAUIToPN £!!! !I HATE YOU YOU DAMN SELL UOTUS!

Go to Facebook, the comments there are just ridiculous. Grown men whining like little kids about EA and Bioware being a bunch of ****s and PS3 shouldn't get anything.

Haters gonna hate.

The more people who experience the Mass Effect series the better.

That's exactly the point.  PS3 folks aren't getting the "series."  They're getting the cookie cutter default canon ME2 where nothing in ME1 matters.  Does not bode well for ME1 carryovers to ME3.  Unless the writers put in a sentence or two of exposition, which is seriously lame-o.

You can't really think there's not going to be a way to get all of the choices from the first game can you?

I can see your point, but i highly doubt that they would just pretend that the first game doesn't exist, especially since they've planned this game series so that the choices would affect the game from the very beginning.

Cool! I prefer the PS3 platform, I will probably get the PS3 version of the game, just to see how different it is. I bet the graphics will be far superior.

I guess Hell froze over, huh?

Fine.... I am done....I dont care anymore...Why annouce Liara DLC so soon? I give up on waiting...And of course that bonus content...I am a collector...I have every single bonus content so far...and all those promo things...but I will not buy ME2 on PS3 for some hours of bonus content( which I hope is just Kasumi and stuff we already have, If not...then I am done playing ME2) Sorry for my reaction i just had to vent myself....i am tired of waiting...But anyway it is good news for PS3 owners...so at least something...

I too would like to remind everyone to calm down. On the whole, I certainly think it's a positive announcement.

1. It will open up the game to many more people who own a PS3 but do not have an X360 or a powerful enough PC. We don't know how they will deal with making you start half-way through the trilogy, but I started with ME2 and loved it - and have since gone back to ME1 with multiple playthroughs of each.

2. It will provide greater revenue for BioWare, meaning more money can be fed into development of future bonus content and ME games.

There are potential drawbacks, but it's all wild speculation at this stage. A large number of people are probably mainly annoyed that we haven't heard a thing about the Liara DLC, but that's no excuse to take it out on an announcement that shouldn't affect X360 and PC gamers - and could even provide long term benefits.

If I could offer one piece of advice to BioWare, it would be to keep us better informed about major upcoming DLC such as the Liara one. Obviously you're bound by when specifics can be given, but without having some proper moderator / developer presence, there's a general feeling of frustration and abandonment.

:)

Wake up people. Even without the PS3 version there will be PC/360 players who play ME3 without the first 2. Bioware can't just tell them to buy the first 2 games, they need to make the game playable for new comers.

I wonder if the "hours of bonus content" will be a truncated version of ME1 with ME2 gameplay that will serve as an extended prologue to the ME2 game? I think that would be cool, otherwise everone will have dead Councils, opposite sex Virmire Survivors, etc., and that's not something we all want.

PS3 is my favorite console so I am all for this. However, I do wonder over how you guys plan to compensate for lack of import feature? Surely that is being taken into consideration and PS3 players will not always be stuck with "failshep." As I already own the game on the 360 it is a moot point for me, but I guess I get edgy at the idea of substandard ports onto a console I love from a company I admire. To me, ME2 without the ability to import from ME1 means the game drops in quality by 10-20 points. I hope that is something that is being addressed. I've been inclined to think EA was giving Bioware it's head and thus far the partnership has been fine (the past two games Bioware has made have been amongst there best in fact), but the instant half-assed ports start appearing is the instant I start worrying. I will just have to wait and see what you guys have in mind, but the sooner we get info on this issue the better. It makes me nervous.

So the PS3 owners get a bunch of free stuff eh? So they get the stuff Xbox owners have had to pay for? Yeah that sounds really nice.

Or maybe the free DLC (Zaeed, Hammerhead, etc.) will already be on the disc.

Is the PS3 version going to be localised in those countries, where the localised versions won't work with the new Liara DLC?

I know. Like me not taking Garrus in ME1, and his constant "just like old times" in ME2. "Yes, we let you play the game that way.. but you played it wrong. WRONG!"

As someone who owns both systems I find this VERY interesting. The main concern now will be if they will release ME-1 on the system. If they do then I would assume that they would work on the graphics and make it a little more like ME-2 since they could sell it as a brand new game on PS3, not a discounted classic or greatest hits title.

The other concept I was thinking was this whole "hours of bonus content" concept. THe 360 clung to standard DVD as their format of choice so no matter what the game is held to 8gb total (ME2 being 2 disc would possibly be 16gb if they used 2 dual layers) however the PS3 uses a blu-ray which has a 25gb-50gb limit. Both games come out to 24gb, so if they released a dual layer Blu-ray they could easily include the 2 games and perhaps even the DLC for BOTH and charge 59.99 or even a collectors edition price.

They released the God of War Collection and were able to have both games on 1 disc, their own independent save files and their own independent trophies.

It's prob a long shot or wishful thinking but if they release both on PS3 and guarantee a day and date release of ME-3 on all platforms then I'll sell my 360 since I really only keep it around now for Mass Effect as it is.

If you've noticed, most people don't mind ME2 being released on PS3. I know I don't. People are just concerned about the possible consequences for ME3 and possible PS3 exclusive DLC.

I am absolutely thrilled for PS3 owners to get the chance to experience this great game. Everyone should have the opportunity to play it.

But I'll admit, I say that with some concessions, as a 360 owner.

First, starting with ME2 is like starting with the Empire Strikes Back. A HUGE part of the experience of ME2 was seeing how your playthrough of ME1 affected the game and all the variables and possibilities that carried over. Excluding ME1 severely dampens the PS3's coup of this game.

Secondly, I hope the game is pretty much the same across all versions. It always upsets me when consoles or systems get "exclusives" that their peers can't. I was very bitter that Sony paid the Arkham Asylum developers, not to develop exclusive content, but to NOT develop that same content for their competitors. If they want to include all the DLC and extras, great, but I hope there's not something like an "exclusive Liara mission", "an exclusive Wrex character", or some vital story-related content that I and other 360 and PC owners would miss out on simply because we were early adopters and supported the game first.

That said, congrats, PS3 owners. You're getting one of the best games ever made. Now go find a cheap copy of ME1 for the PC and get caught up.

Hours of exclusive content?? I have bought nearly everything Mass Effect related and you're throwing out "HOURS OF EXCLUSIVE CONTENT"!!?? Wonderful. This is wonderful! Go look at what Bandi Namco did to Tales of Vesperia when it was released for the PS3 about a year and a half later. They added in not only bonus content, but new characters, new locations, made previously non-playable characters playable, and a SLEW of other things.

I could care less that you're going cross-platform, fine, whatever, but how dare you just give out hours of exclusive content. Generally the word "exclusive" means "**** you'll never see on the 360 or PC". Thanks BioWare.

Oh, and I love how this announcement came after the new book AND the "Send Commander Sheppard and her team to PAX", oh, oh, and the new Normandy lithographs... (which need to be more of).

This might mean something if Bioware weren't connected at the hip to friggin' EA, who isn't exactly hurting for cash.

The hours of bonus content is a new form of scanning... you scan planets until you get waves in the shape of the mako, then you land, and drive up and down pointy mountains for two hours looking for mineral deposits.

Oh, don't forget the twice as long loading screens with extra info like how to power on your system!
