How is it rendered irrellevant? I'm certain that Bioware will keep the ME1 choices in the game, it just means PS3 players will have less endings available.
I doubt that - then the PS3 fanboys will start complaining/boycotting the Mass Effect series as an "inferior" port of an XBox game that they may as well play on the PC.
And honestly? I would rather Bioware ensure a superior experience for
all players in Mass Effect 3, not just XBox/PC players, even if this means making the decisions in Mass Effect 1 pointless.
Like it or not, there is a statistically non-zero (and, I would argue,
likely) chance that the decisions/choices the player made in Mass Effect 1 will hold less relevance in ME3 than it otherwise would have. Which is a shame - what was the point of playing Mass Effect 1 in the first place? As a TPS it was terrible - the story (and
especially how much you can affect the story) is what sold it for me - I mean, Shepherd essentially dictates the political atmosphere of the galaxy with his decision to save or let die the Council. But now there is a chance that the ME1 story will be canonized.
I mean, think about it - the data port from ME1 to ME2 already had a pretty minimal effect on the story; many players, including myself, was hoping that the decisions made in ME1 would pay dividends in ME3. I mean, it's not like ME2 had many potentially game-changing decisions (to keep the base, or to destroy it, herretic Geth) compared to ME1 (Rachni Queen, Wrex, save/let die the Council, Kaiden/Ashley on Virmire, etc.).
Now that hope is essentially dashed.
