Frankly, I cba with the influx of PS3 fanboys onto these boards. I've not had good experiences with them in the past.

And Xbox 360 is *cough* known *cough* for the maturity of its players both online and the forums. If you did not pick up the sarcasm there.... I've nevre gotten on my PS3 on a multiplayer game and had a 13 year old screaming obscenaties to me and calling me names that technically are not possible, but I've had that happen numerous times on XBox and Xbox 360.

Pot, meet Kettle, it seems you both will have a lot in commone!

The XBOX community is the most pathetic, base level group of morons on the planet.

The "west" is doomed because of the XBOX generation, never in my life have I heard the things I have heard coming from MW2 on XBOX.  Its really sad actually.

PS3, in my experience, is much more mature as a community.  That said, all internet/gaming communities have their psychos.  I think the percentage is just higher on XBOX.

im a 360 owner and honestly both 360 and ps3 are the same graphics wise. i love playstation but they dont have a game library that peaks my interest, i will say though im happy that me2 and me3 are going to both consoles and pc because mass effect is a game for everyone to enjoy. i agree that 97% of xbox fan boys are out of controll but so are 97% of the ps3 fan boys as well. if ps3 had a decent gaming library heck id invest in one

^^ Y'know what would make me happy at this point? If Bioware managed to make Pinnacle Station free for the 360 so I could /finally/ have a complete ME1 achievement list.

Although one thing about DLC being on the disk is the all the weapon packs, all that firepower would make the game waaaaayyy too easy from the get-go.

Gamescom: Mass Effect 2 PS3 Details

BioWare's doctors talk about moving to Sony's platform.

August 19, 2010

by Charles Onyett

LATEST VIDEO

PlayStation 3 owners got some great news when Gamescom 2010 kicked off, and it wasn't just during Sony's presentation where a Resistance 3 trailer was shown and a new Ratchet game announced. Just before Sony's event kicked off Electronic Arts held its own press conference, where Drs. Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk walked on stage and told everyone that Mass Effect 2 will be coming out on PlayStation 3. As many who've already played it will tell you, Mass Effect 2 is one of 2010's great titles and very much admired here at IGN.

So now that the previously Xbox 360 and PC-only franchise is going to show up on PS3, what does that mean about the franchise in general? And what exactly will you be getting when Mass Effect 2 for PS3 is made available?

"There's going to be a brief introductory element to the game that takes you through the events of [Mass Effect] and introduces you to [Mass Effect 2]," said Zeschuk. "And then there's just that fundamental difference of the fact that it's a different platform with different pros and cons and a different controller. The content's largely the same."

Will that be a playable intro or a video you watch to get up to speed on the events of the first Mass Effect? "We haven't revealed the details yet," said Muzyka, "but the goal is to provide a great introductory experience that gives you the context and frames who you are as a character."

Because Mass Effect 2 was able to make it across the platform gap, one would assume the inevitable Mass Effect 3 would be a multi-console release. "We haven't even announced that game yet. Defining the products for an unannounced product would be quite challenging," said Muzyka with a smile. "We've always said it's a trilogy. It would be a good guess to, once we bring a new product to a platform, we'd probably want to continue that, but we just haven't announced it yet."

Moving back to Mass Effect 2, what about all the downloadable content that's been released for other versions of the game? "We're going to be exploring what we want to pack in as far as DLC goes. The overall packages are still being finalized."

So when and why did production start on a PS3 version of Mass Effect 2? "We got asked a lot by the press, asked a lot by the fans," said Zeschuk. "It's also very timely that we're doing it here at Gamescom. You want to get your game to as many people as possible, you want to have the broadest possible audience. In Europe, the PlayStation 3 is quite strong and growing rapidly. The same in the U.S., but particularly in Europe."

That's about all that's available for now. PS3 owners should get ready to start scanning planets in January 2011.

I think there are a lot of assumptions in this thread, I encourage you all to stay tuned as more details of the PS3 release are given. I am personally very happy that ps3 owners who were not able to play mass effect will now be able to. As a developer, anything that gets a game I made to more players is good news.

so i am
although i am also a bit puzzle by "the hours of Bouns Content"

My girlfriend was on the phone with when I told her about ths and she made an interesting comment:

What if the bonus content in ME2 is ME1?

It would be interesting since they wont be selling Mass Effect 1, they are selling Mass Effect 2 and giving away 1 and a bonus. It might actually be a legal loophole they can explore.
I don't know I just found it an intriguinging thought that no one considered.

As to the console wars. I think some people are taking name loyalty to a whole new lvl.
Two years ago Microsolft had nothing but exclusives, and the PS3 seemed to just be inching towards and early grave. Last year the PS3 finally came into its own with some very nice exclusives that gave it some life back.
And now it seems that everyone is now comfortable with the PS3 software and jumping on the bandwagon, including companies that swore that they would never go to the PS3 like Valve and Lionhead.
It also does not help that in most reviews the PS3 version is generally recommended over the Xbox 360 version due to the PS3s better graphics capabliities.

I think the Xbox 360 owners are just feeling like the PS3 has been getting way too much attention from developers lately and feel a bit betrayed by Bioware and EA that one of their last bastions has opened its gates.  I honestly think you Xbox 360 guys are going a little bit xenophobic though. I see no harm in PS3 owners getting a shot at the game.

Because if I remember correctly, we PC owners were not exactly extactic when Bioware started developing for the Xbox as well as PC, and you guys don't hear us complaining, now do you?

Well... not much... B)

whats right is right and what you said in bold is wrong, why do you think ps3 owners are always complaining about inferior multiplats? final fantasy xiii apart i cant think of many games for both systems that are superior on sonys format.

That hasn't been my experience. I've chosen the PS3 version over the 360 a few times based on comparison reviews. Sometimes it's for the graphics, sometimes its for the content. In fact, I find myself skewed towards the PS3 versions now, just based on graphics.

games like what? name them please because i'm a multi-console owner like you.

Off the top of my head, I got DA:O on the PS3 because the comparison review said the graphics were better.  I chose PS3 for Red Dead Redemption because it had exclusive DLC.

Well I'm going to be honest and say I really don't like this news because I seriously detest Sony, and this will just allow them to get a greater foothold on the market. It's the reason why I buy most of my games on the 360 and not on my PS3.

So you own a PS3, but wan't Sony to fail? Isn't that counter-productive?

Although I'd like for them to find a way to bring ME1 toPS3 as well, I'm hoping this introductory will be like a mini Mass Effect where they've cut out all of the sidequests which don't have any effect on ME2, it would be a real shame to lose all of those great moments where the little things you do catch up with you in ME2.

I have a question for Bioware... I already own the Collector's Edition of ME2 for Xbox 360 and have the Collector Armor/Rifle Code redeemed on this site. If I get Mass Effect 2 on PS3, will the Collector's Armor/Rifle appear for download in the Cerberus Network in the PS3 Version? Or will I have to buy the PS3 Collector's Edition if I want the Collector Armor/Rifle?

No console gamer can claim their community is mature. Are there mature console gamers? Sure. But far more kids play consoles than PC's, which, by their very nature, leads to sever immaturity.

I'm hearing rumors that if the PS3 gets ME2, then ME1 choices like LIs may be disregarded in ME3 for all platforms. Now I don't hate PS3 or anything and I don't mind them getting ME2, in fact I'd prefer if they had both ME1 and ME2. I hope that rumor isn't true though.

I'm a PS3 gamer.

This is very good news for the PS3 community. This is probably the most wanted xbox game to come to PS3. It's a bit of a kick in the teeth for MS, but good news for us PS3 owners.

It's a similar situation to FFXIII going to xbox.

I've enjoyed Dragon Age, played it through twice and all of the dlc at least three times. I think Bioware/EA have decided that they can't ignore the large install base that PS3 now has.

Afterall Bioware and EA are companies and exist for the sole purpose of generating money.

Xbox owners shouldn't cry about this. Games and platforms come and go. There's no point being a fanboy that flames people on the other platform...afterall, 5 years from now I might be playing an Xbox720 and you might have switched to a PS4. Platform agnosticism is the way to go.

Here's what I've said about that rumor on the news board...

"Here's the truth, you're all being paranoid.

It's already been stated on Twitter that Bioware is adding additional content into the PS3 Version to acquaint the player with the events and story of ME1, and even if it wasn't, it's obvious.

REALITY CHECK, Bioware made the Mass Effect series to be a 3 part on-going series that connects directly and reflect the player's choices, and they wouldn't screw that up just because of one port on a console that didn't get the original game in the series.
Worst case scenario, the PS3 Version of ME3 gets toned down so that ME1's choices play a smaller role.

Here, allow me to predict the future for you all...

Ever wonder why Bioware announced a port of ME2 for PS3, but no PS3 Version of the upcoming ME3? Here's why, history is going to repeat itself. Microsoft has likely already paid EA for ME3 to be an exclusive for a year, so the PS3 Version won't come out til a year later.
So even if Bioware doesn't include some form of a save generator, a retrospective, ME Genesis, etc. Then the only version of ME3 that will be affected is the PS3 Version that won't come out until a year after the PC/360 Version, understand?"

Sadly, I was pissed off when I wrote it, so it comes off a bit ranty, but I think it's tangible enough.

I don't care THAT much since I play on PC and have both a PS3 and a 360 but, I hope ME1 is coming as well or else, there's not much point IMO.
Now if they do re-release ME1 with a few upgrades that'd be nice.

Mass effect 1 doesn't have good graphics so PS3 players are not interested in it.

First Bioshock, now Mass Effect...
I'm not complaining, mind you. More sales = More people able to experience the pure awesomeness which is Mass Effect.
What WILL ****** me off* is if the forums turn into a big debate as to which version is better, fanboys screaming on both sides: Mass Effect is a fantastic game; 360, PS3 or PC. Period.

*The PS3 version exclusive content being a directors cut 'now with less calibrations' kinda thing aside.

I doubt that MS has secured any sort of exclusivity period for Mass Effect 3. The reason a PS3 version wasn't announced at Gamescom is because it hasn't been announed for any platform period. Yes I know, they've already said their working on the game, yes I know, it's obvious that it's coming out, it doesn't matter. Check out the recent interview with the President of Bioware, he said something to the effect of, "We haven't announced any version of ME3, but it's a safe bet that it'll be a simultaneous release on all platforms." This could of course change, but I doubt it. EA will make more money launching the game on PS3 than MS is willing to pay them for a temporary exclusive. It's simple numbers.

Shoot... the war isn't going to end because ... well maturity levels of the owners belong to Teens.

I must agree with many of you, I would have much rather played ME3 with a closer release date --- like friggen X-Mas... Nov... Oct... something to that affect... this plain sucks. Really sucks. PS3 or No PS3.

I have both PS3 & 360 also; but i'd much rather continue my expierience on the 360 which is my favorite of the two. Mass Effect 1 & 2 is still uncomparable to other games because of the level of story telling it allows one to mold in my opinion. I compare it to every game i play. I know it's probably not right but I do it, but no story compells me as much as this one so far. Ps3 players are going to miss out on a lot so all i would do is recommend that they purchase the game on another platform and get the first game to get the full expierience. But the ps3 players also deserve to play such a well thought out game. Even if they have to play a pre determined version of the game.
