The key fact here is that this means ME3 will come out on PS3 also. Bioware has a 10million sales goal so this option only makes sense.
The reason I am weary of this is not because I am a 360 fanboy (I do own a 360), but because the fact that ME1 is not released for PS3 means that some of the decisions from that game will be left out in ME3 or relegated to obscurity. They could become 360 exclusive content... but I doubt it.

Really? That's a big kick in the face to Xbox360/PC players...

"Microsoft published ME1. Microsoft had an agreement for ME2 exclusivity before EA purchased BioWare so there wasn't anything EA could do about it. Microsoft did not have an agreement in place for ME3 exclusivity so EA can do whatever they want to WITH ME3. They can't do whatever they want to with ME1 and/or ME2.
That doesn't mean that EA and Microsoft haven't come to some other sort of agreement to allow for ME1 and ME2 to be brought to the PS3.
I'm going to make up some numbers here, but just go with the logic and not the numbers.
Let's say EA expects that they can make $100 million from a PS3 version of Mass Effect Trilogy. It's going to cost them $25 million in development costs, so that's $75 million in profit. They go to Microsoft and tell them that they'd like to buy back the rights for $25 million and Microsoft agrees. So, EA spends $50 million to make $100, leaving them with $50 million in profit. In no way would this PS3 edition hurt Microsoft Mass Effect 3 sales to the tune of $25 million dollars, so they are still ahead on the deal.
The big question is, what is the cost of development for the whole ME series on PS3 hardware vs. what they expect to make, or does it even matter? Is it something that they feel the need to do politically or for "mindshare" and not just profit?
Either way, I'm inclined to believe that if Thug has a source saying it's a done deal, that it probably is. I've been in his shoes where I just couldn't say, so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.
Another question is, will Sony actually get ME3 by itself, or only the trilogy? MS might get ME3 for $59, the trilogy for $99 and Sony might get only the trilogy for $99. That would make a big difference in how much it would hurt Microsoft. "
it makes sense

Different teams... A ME3 team, and a ME2 PS3 team...
Plus, they've probably been working on the port for quite a while.

It doesn't matter. The PS3 port might be made by a different studio. However, it WILL delay ME3 because now that they've done ME2 for PS3, they'll also make ME3 for PS3 and making a game for 3 different systems will definitely delay itRivercurse wrote...

My problem isn't that ME2 is coming to PS3, it's that with this ME3 will be pushed to late 2012 or 2013
Big assumption with nothing to back it up.
I was always expecting an ME3 release holiday next year (announced at E311), not that I have any proof either, but why would a PS3 port change it at all? There's more than enough time for PS3 owners to play ME2, and Bioware have more than enough staff to handle the workload.
But it's in development NOW, they're probably developing for all 3 platforms as we speak. They've know about this port for months, maybe even before ME2 came out because they never denied that it would come to PS3. I'd bet money that ME3 for PS3 and ME2 for 360 started development same day.

This doesnt impact the schedule for ME3.
How does it effect the import feature for the series? Are you guys going to be making imported saves matter even less?

Im concerned about quality...ME3 can easily sell what ME2 did now just because its on multi platforms...oh watch them make it a freaking one discer again and throw in a repetetive multiplayer so the fan boy tards can play the same 5 minute scenarios over ando ver 100000000 times at the cost of making a buck
I just KNOW ME3 will be a major let down...I just feel it.

Ok while i am very happy its coming to PS3 (Couldnt care less for the fan boys) the hours of obnus content leaves me a little annoyed, does this mean just having the DLC already released included? (in which case im fine) or stuff that you didnt have time to put in on the xobx and pc mass effect, mordin/grunt confrontation spring to mind.
If the PS3 version ends up being a more refined polished game with 'hours' of content added, you're going to see a lot of unhappy fans

But... why aren't you releasing ME1 first? ^^. I mean I already have the game for PC but doesn't it defeat the whole objective if you release the second game first before you release the first? Maybe ME2 for PS3 will have Kotor 2 style intros... with more indepth analysis as to what happened at the end of ME1. But still... all those variable choices.. gone x_x
I was under the impression that they had some sort of contract with Microsoft making Mass Effect 1 an exclusive to Xbox and PC. Perhaps ME2 is not held by the same contract? That would explain why they are releasing ME2 first...I'm guessing that when and if the contract runs out...they'll release ME1.
Though this is just speculation...I'm probably wrong.

Pretty much everyone. And because it's been, up til now, a HUGE feature of the ME franchise, and one of Bioware's favorite bits to advertise about the franchise.

I'm not a fanboy, but am happy to play this game, I wonder if the DLC will be coming too?
You will like it. However, I highly recommend you get Mass Effect 1 (whether for PC or 360).. for the story. Now you know the release date so you have time to figure out how you will play Mass Effect 1.
And to whoever wants MGS4 for the 360.... I personally prefer Splinter Cell: Conviction and I enjoy both series. in MGS4 you can carry a barrel in your inventory and pull it out to hide in it like a looney toon cartoon... splinter cell is a no joke stealth game.
