Like I said in that other thread:

"What was that stupid ANIMEesque crap!!! To be honest I was expecting as much but that was just plain ugly. If this is anything to judge by... Well let's not say I'm overly eager when it comes to buying this game.

Shame on you for this, Bioware. You did this just to increase sales. The initial unique feel of the game is ever more rapidly fading away."

Oh really shut up you bloody doomsayers. Ofcourse they did this to increase sales, so they can make an AWESOME game. A CGI trailer is MUCH beta than an alpha test of gameplay. They want to show whats GOOD about the game. Not the crappy stuff they have in store now. Now please go have a freezing cold shower and wake up, becuase you guys are just bloody annoying me. And what unique feel? They have just started on a FRANCHISE. FRANCHISE= Lots of new games. Meaning DA3 could be back to the Warden, or Morrigan. So please keep quiet and look. Damn to think 30 year old gamers are moaning more than a little baby who wants some sweets!

Am I the only one who LOVES Hawke's default armor? Maybe it's because I'm Asian or maybe it's because I enjoy Final Fantasy games but I actually like the influences of East Asian armor and weaponry. *shrug*

No I like his armor too. I'm not the biggest FF fan in the world though (thought 7 and 8 were quite good), and the gauntlet/pauldron is a bit rediculous - although somewhat in line with what Gladiator's sometimes wore. However I really like the rest of the design, such as the furs and weapon.

I also like the armour. Loghain clanking around DAO in a vast metal suit always pushed at my suspension of disbelief. Even more than the elves, dwarves and magic did. Weird.

It´s the kind of armor you would wear in battle, Hawke´s is the kind of armor that would get you killed in a battle.

In a battle in medieval Europe, yes. But a) this is Ferelden with magic and stuff and B) seeing a character always wearing full armour on-screen makes me wonder how long their back and shoulders are going to last. Even though armour isn't as heavy as it looks, it's still going to be uncomfortable to wear for long periods.

Well Bloody hell, they weren't going to say "women" for a male Hawke were they? In Medeival fantasy games it's always going to be a default man, because they were the bloody people who fought in the armies in those days. In Final Fantasy games, it's always going to be a women ninja :P Chill out ffs, it's awesome, and heres hoping that fem Hawke is really...really...REALLY HOT.

Or it could just mean the "men" in the context of humans..

On top of that, the dark ritual isn't canon.. and not everyone would have chosen to have a child with Morrigan in Origins... so yea. B)

New trailer and site are awesome, cheers BioWare. I did notice a few spelling errors on the site though. Like 'CREATUES' in the Gallery, for example.

I didn't read this whole thread but the things I like the part of the trailer that was similar to the old Planescape torment trailer, many quick flashes of things that get you thinking 'who is that' or 'what is that'?

I am assuming that the main character is a arcane warrior in that scene. I hope we haven't changed things even further to make it easy for everyone to use magic and fight and thus make the classes meaningless.

Edit:  Oh and what is the scale of this Strider?  Is it a big sucker I assume?

Just in case the topic I made gets closed ...

"But I also want to talk about other things in the trailer.

Hawke's gauntlet for one.  This seems either like a melee/touch magic weapon or some sort of amplifier.  When he wouches the Qunari's head, the gauntlet leaves a burn mark that looks to be some shape of fire.  And when Hawke is injures, a gauntleted finger traces over the wound lines.  It could be just some fire gauntlet and cauterized the wounds.

And, did anyone notice the Qunari putting up a forcefield like bubble when Hawke attacked with fire from his staff/sword weapon?  Hm ...."

I didn't suggest they use "women." I suggested they use the gender netural "people." I would also like to point out that the world of Dragon Age is a mythical world made up by game designers. Ergo, it is not real. Ergo, its history is only that what its creators decide it is. Although in midieval Europe women were never (rarely?) on the battle front, it's been shown in DAO that it's perfectly acceptable for women to be warriors and (supposedly) there is no bias against women fighting. Thus, I don't see why Flemeth, who seems to look down on men anyway, narrates about a destiny that only a MAN can have.

I don't care what gender issues Final Fantasy has because I'm not talking about Final Fantasy, I'm talking about Dragon Age and the choices EA/Bioware made in marketing it.

Look, I get it. You want to show how BADASS your game is, and even a hint of a female Hawke would ruin that because we know that women can't ever be awesome. But given that it IS possible to play as a female Hawke, I find it just a TINY BIT offputting that the trailer uses language that implies Hawke must be a man's man and could never be a girl ever.

Seriously, it's not that hard to say "people" instead of "men."

I need to avoid all trailers because they are more likely to drive me away from DA2 than get me hyped up for it.

You could just say there are THOSE who struggle against destiny; there are THOSE who embrace destiny.

It isn't hard to be gender neutral, and honestly, you don't even need to have a female PC option to aim for that sort of inclusiveness. It's not a big deal to do it.

Yeah...pretty much. It screams "THIS IS A MAN'S GAME, WIMMINS!".

Count me in among those not liking Hawke's attire.

JRPG girlyman aesthetics have no place in western dark fantasy, IMO. Posted Image

Yeah that 'default to male' is an annoying habit of, well... everything in life, not just video games. I assume they meant it in a 'universal human' sense, rather than a specifically male sense - not that it makes it any better, indeed the fact that 'men' can be used to refer to everyone is a rather sorry state of our culture, but its one for the moment we have to live with until we can get to a point to change it. They use 'men' in that sense in DAO a few times as well.

Amazing trailer. The ending with all the flash backs and glowing eyes raises many questions. Also, the IGN preview has some interesting details.

I also like the look of his armor and a FF fan too :)

But it's a bloody game! I'm all up for realism. But do you think our characters could REALLY run without stopping in pull plate armour for hours without end? But no one said "Our characters shouldn't run like that, it's not realistic". And to please you maybe this will stop the armour moans.

Hawke is the Champion of Kirkwall, he is obviously a skilled warrior and has skills in magic too. There is not need for heavy armour, or plate steel with him. He is skilled enough in battle to do without. Plus, I don't think he would be moving 1000 miles per hour like he did in the trailer with armour half of his weight.

You realize that in more than a couple languages the all inclusive coed version of a word is the "masculine" version, right?  It's not that big of a deal, you don't see not-white people coming on here and complaining that they aren't showing other races for the main character.  Chill out, man and men can be neutral, all inclusive words, that's how it is.  Being politically correct has to stop at some point.

On a related note: This was great, so excited and amped up for this, the release can't come soon enough.

I agree, but I think "those" is a better choice. People is a very awkward word. IMO at least.

Ergo, it is not real. Ergo, its history is only that what its creators decide it is. Well, obviously because Hawke in the trailer is a man, and so is the king. The whole scene is supposed to be evocative of cowering and fear, with the qunari executing the king, whereas you see Hawke climbing to fight th qunari.

Gender neutral language would have been a better choice, but I think you're overextending the implication.

Please stop assuming that we will play a warrior/rogue/mage hybrid - It's clearly just to show off the different classes in one person, "morphing" them into the same trailer. In game we will be warrior, rogue OR mage not all in one, it's not a kinder-egg.

Definately seems like a GoA Harvester/flesh golem.

See, this scene fuzzed-out on my computer so I didn't get a good look, but yeah - this is almost certainly a Harvester, and considering they were the creepiest enemy DAO has had to date, for me that's a good thing. Also it was really obvious from GOA's ending that we'd be seeing more of these little blighters. It was too blatant to even be called foreshadowing, more like fore-high-powered-beams-to-the-eyes.

When I saw Hawke draw his sword and the Qunari look like "Ah sh*t..." that was the most satisfying part for me. Until Hawke Ripped his arms off! AWESOME!
