Don't sweat it guys. The game is coming out in 7 months, and this is the FIRST trailer. I kinda expected this one is just gonna be a tease (even though i hoped it wouldnt XD) with little gameplay and content.

Lets just hope future trailers can be more specific......

Based on this..and what I know so far.

I. Want. This. Game.

And to the different debates...the "men" debate...for gods sake dont take it personal, the lead protagonist for almost all fantasy/epics is male. And "men" in most fantasy games....and in real life, can also refer to Humans. Though "Those" sounds better, not for any other real purpose, other than "those" just sounds better.

As to the armor---look up to the right, and then to the left...you will see two people, one alien, one human. Both are wearing things that shouldnt be worn in open combat, so this isnt new to a bioware game...same thing with the skimpy looking light leather armor in DOA). Now I admit that Hawkes armor shouldnt be missing an arm...but there may be a reason for it. (such as he picks it up of a dead guy early on, and its missing ****).

If it did look like a jrpg outfit by the way....he would just be wearing a pauldron, gauntlet, and a pair of shorts. This just looks like ****ty foresight on a fighters part.

He is missing his sleeve so he can be more dexterous probably

I will still, most likely, end up buying DA2, because I know that you can play as a female Hawke. I've seen many women tell me that they originally stayed away from both DAO and Mass Effect because they thought they were more of the same generic manly man stuff. This trailer will do nothing to convince people that the game is unique in some way.

Yes. It is up to EA and Bioware to make sure that people know the content of their games. However, there was a wealth of information out there about both games that let you know you could be male, female, dwarf, elf and human. Hell, the developers for the games would tell you straight out in post or even in private messages. I've messaged David before and he got back to me faster than the people I work with.

I'm a woman and the first thing I checked out for BOTH games before I brought them was character options. That doesn't mean I wouldn't have brought either game if you couldn't change the characters. It’s not like it wasn’t known.

What I meant is that it's just a word, there's no reason to be up in arms about it.  Yes, people are mad about no black characters, but they're not making a big fuss about it in the main thread instead of talking about more important things like the actual content and reveals of the trailer.  I don't see why English has to be any different than any other language in that "men" can be neutral.  And yes, I'm a girl.  No, I don't see the big deal.  Don't let the little things ruin something for you.

Okay, let's talk about the content of the trailer:

- Generic White Man fights qunari, who are a race of Dark Skinned almost-humans. There is a generic fight, and we get to see a flashback to some Hot Chick. Then the Generic White Man uses an overkill spell to kill the Dark Skinned Humanoid. Meanwhile, an old woman narrates about the Destiny of a Man.

I found the trailer to be bland; quite honestly, it tells me nothing about the story and only highlights EA/Bioware's lack of creativity in marketing. I came here in hopes that somebody in bioware would at least take note that being gender neutral would actually help their sales, not drive them down. I did not at one point suggest that they should have used a female Hawke, because I know it would never happen in a million years.

I will still, most likely, end up buying DA2, because I know that you can play as a female Hawke. Some people were saying (I'm not going to search for the quotes, it's too far back and I'm lazy) that they thought Hawke had Flemeth inside him, and that's how he's able to use a sword and magic at the same time.

I'm thinking it's that claw-like glove that he's wearing... He's wearing one, and in the concept art showing Flemeth, she's wearing one, too. Maybe it allows him to borrow her magic. Or maybe it's a very powerful relic that he gains early on in the game.

Trailer looked nice. Decent fight choreography, however, I'm not too fond of the camera work - they seemed a bit too spontaneous, so it did seem dizzying at some point.

Did you look closer at all of the fast frame action when Hawke is thinking just before the end?  There is a hell of a lot more content in there than just white guy fighting horned dude.

Three seconds of a hot chick posing around don't tell me anything about the story, no.

So you missed the other half dozen or more images other than hot chick posing.  That's fine.  There is an incredibly fine line between telling story and spoilng story.  Go back and watch it again and pause off and on in the thought scene, there is a lot more things to consider.

As awesome as the choreo was, that was the part to put a giant grin on my face. Will it be an actual spell in the game?  Oh please please please.

Hopefully not too early. Or rather hopefully we can't make a rift and rip a Qunari apart until later on.

I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at. Yes, it's possible to inform yourself about a game. It's also possible that somebody sees that trailer and decides that they don't want to bother informing themselves, because the trailer didn't interest them. First and foremost, it's the company's responsibility to inform potential customers about their product in such a way that would be enticing to these potential customers.

And quite honestly? If Dragon Age and Mass Effect didn't let me choose the gender, I would not be playing them. My friend tried to get me into Alpha Protocol, but because you could only play as a guy, I lost interest. I can tolerate the main character being male in JRPGs because there's no actual roleplaying going on, but when I'm making the choices and deciding who to romance, I'd rather play as a woman. I might be missing out on a decent game, but that's my own personal decision.

In terms of a cinematic trailer, it was very nice.

In terms of adding in any type of information we may not know, none.

First time in awhile where I saw a trailer where I was happy and disappointed at the same time.

Trailer was smooth, good fight sequence, showed magic....but showed everything we already knew.... I would have been alot happier if we got a tease of who will be in the party. Who will be the archer, the 2-hander, the healer? We saw ALL of that in the Sacred Ashes trailer, but nothing of the same quality in this one.... Maybe that is why I was disappointed.

We are very proud today to launch the new Dragon Age 2 website including the debut of our Dragon Age 2 cinematic trailer: Destiny!

Sigh...   Is this one going to be another bad-engine game?   Because I'm tired of feeling like I'm gaming in an elaborate Habitrail because my character is completely incapable of walking from point A to point B because you put a twig or a row of matchboxes on the floor and we cannot "jump" or "climb" or even "step over" such trivial objects.    It just kills immersion when I *know* in real life I could easily, as a 50-year-old-man whose days as an athlete are over, walk where my uber-riffic, totally buffed-and-pimped character cannot...

Honestly, it's just shabby programing and shabby level design.  If you can't get people to go where they need to go because they're following the story...   There's something wrong with your story...

You realize that in more than a couple languages the all inclusive coed version of a word is the "masculine" version, right?  It's not that big of a deal, you don't see not-white people coming on here and complaining that they aren't showing other races for the main character.  Chill out, man and men can be neutral, all inclusive words, that's how it is.  Being politically correct has to stop at some point.

I am not talking about any language except English. And actually, yes, people DO point out how problematic it is that the main character is always depicted as a white man. I'd give EA/Bioware leeway on never showing women if in the very least they portrayed default!Hawke as a person of color.

I will accept "man/men" being somewhat neutral in a historical context, but in this day and age I don't think it flies.

@ In Exile: You're right, "those" is less awkward. And yeah, I'm over-extending it a bit but I'm seriously annoyed right now. :(

hmm, this is getting to far out of hand...

Ferelden and Orlais (as we know it) is based on Medeival European sources. Europeans are in the most part...white, this is an explanation to why the it is so. I am sure if we were in Antiva we would have more brown, Latin coloured people.

The sex thing in Dragon age is not something to be annoyed about. Bioware's main hero has always been a man. It's not a sexist thing. If it was sexist then I'm sure that there would be NO women in the Dragon age franchise, nor would their be a DLC dedicated to a women as THE main protaginist (Lelianna). Women in Bioware's games are actually the most intresting characters. KOTOR had Bastilla. DA has Morrigan and Flemeth. Though not always the main hero, it shouldn't be over thought. And I'm sure they meant men as in the "race of men" not  as in 'male' men. This is similar to the RE5 being "racist". But face it, at the end of the day it's the women who are really the superior to men. Manipulative, mysterious, lustful. Or haven't you ever read Poroit? lol

The Sacred Ashes trailer came out and we already knew everything there was about it. I knew what the Sacred Ashes were, I knew who Sten / Leliana and Morrigan were and such. It wasn't the "launch" trailer.

This trailer reveals a lot in the "flashback" sequence that leaves us to assume.

within the coming weeks we will get those 1-2 minute trailers of individual party members, like in awakeing with Mhairi, Anders, and Velanna
