I posted this in another thread about Hawke's arm:

Well it seems to be more than just armor for show, since he burns the qunari's head with it leaving a fiery mark, as well as does something to his injured? arm later on. Could amplify magic or maybe is a magical melee/touch weapon.  It covers his entire arm ... has me curious.

From Saibh:

But now that you mention it, Flemeth seems to have a clawed arm but her left one instead.  Could Hawke possibly have the other arm that should be in a pair?:

I bet that's what was in the package.

I have to say, aside from the pure CGI, I hope that the music in the game combines the heavy metal with the choir and orchestra that we hear in the trailer, because the last notes in the end of the trailer when the main title appeared on the screen was just fantastic.

ok trailer...the wiping the blood across his nose was stupid imo

and the whole, if I can't beat him myself I'll just conjurer up some demonic arms to rip him apart was kind of weak...meh

too bad the actual game will still look like a cartoon off of Cartoon Network with some fake looking blood splashing everywhere....

we'll see when we get some actual "gameplay" if I need to revise my opinion or not

based on what we've been shone thus far I'm betting "not"

We think it has something to do with him being a blood mage...he cuts into his arm to get those hands to appear. I think he had to take away from his lifeforce, which would explain why he waited so long, and (I...guess?) why he experienced a flashback.

Decent trailer. Still no instant buy for me though.

I'm sold on the game already, as I know it will be nothing like the trailer.

Perhaps they are both halves of the same whole? Maybe both Hawke and Flemeth were connected years before (in a previous life for Hawke), like lovers or something.

They certainly look like his arms--but still, all the blood we see indicates blood mage. Some people speculate he died and Flemeth resurrected him--or he may be an abomination.

He did seem to be scratching some kind of magic symbol into his flesh. As I posted in another thread, I suspect that's why he keeps his arm exposed.

It could be an attack of last resort; the qunari did prove a bit tougher than he expected, and such an attack would be time-consuming and painful.

It's a trope, see the link the other guy provided.

Tropes by definition are not flaws, but IMO the "OMG power so great but saving it for a visceral dramatic big monent"  is a flaw.

This is only a preview trailer, I thought my True Blood examples were more firm.

Is the idea that he has no good reason to hold back his power? That he does it simply to be dramatic (or to be a 'large ham', if you will)? What I was saying was that maybe he does have a reason-- it's because he'd rather simply cut the qunari in half with his sword-staff than use his dangerous forbidden technique. Because it's, you know, dangerous... and forbidden. :P

Or maybe it's a matter of "rage power" a la DBZ, which is a bit more trite, but still, not the same as simply holding back the power to make it more dramatic.

Or are you just jaded after seeing devs exploit this sort of trope over and over to add "omg epicness", to the point that even if he does have a reason, it's still annoying to see yet again?

Hmm...A forbidden technique? I was thinking it could be a half-life power, it could be a power he draws his own life from (like most blood magic), it could summon the abomination within him (assuming there is one). Honestly, we don't know.

Hm, well, maybe not 'forbidden' in the strictest sense of the word, but still something that he'd rather not do unless he absolutely has to. Like if he's about to get cut in half by a qunari axe. That's what I was speculating it to be. But you're right, we don't know the nature of this power yet, could be anything.

I really liked this trailer. Even though it did not provide us with any clear information there's a lot to ponder on. Like those Morrigan clones or Strangely Manly Pirate Woman who did kissy faces with Hawke over there, and you know, the huge flaming hands. I wouldn't say it was blood magic though. He used a lot of 'fire based' attacks, so either he has something of a rage demon or dragon inside. So he's 'an abomination but not really one'. Or maybe just a new sub-class.

Anyway, what I loved most was the Qunari and the music of course. I really like Hawkes appearance as well. From the in-game screenshots he reminded me a lot of Duncan.

And his boots.

Man.

Cheesy elements in the trailer:
-burning hand
-head banging
-fork sword
-the nose and blood thing(if Hawke would be in my party, I would say"Dude, no, just no, don't do this, don't make this adventure weird and awkward)

This trailer reminded me of adventures and descriptions made by my fellow gamers when we were 10 or 12 :wizard:

Did you spot any other cheesee elements?

It wasn't too different in tone from the most well known DA:O trailers.

I hope they release a gameplay video soon, I really want to see how much of an improvement this game is from DA:O with my own eyes.
