I'll have a look at the wiki to see if I can back any of this up.
I'd love to know more about it, since Alistair said you don't even need lyrium to do templar tricks
The wiki doesn't have much, although it does say that Templar's do get their anti-magic powers from lirium. It's a bit confusing though, it also mentions how so long as they are prepared they can withstand most magic attacks (seemingly suggesting it's mere mental conditioning to me).
I would guess that a Templar only has access to all his abilities when taking lirium, but without is far from defenceless.

Here's what I have surmised:
Templars aren't actually casting spells; if they were capable of magic, they'd be mages. I like to think of the templar abilities as psychic powers harnessed through mental discipline — more like psionics from Dungeons and Dragons. When Alistair undoes a charm or a hex, I think he's actually "willing" the spell out of existence.
But even though templars don't need lyrium in order to use their abilities — Alistair does fine without it — the Chantry gives templars lyrium in order to "strengthen" their powers, or so they claim.
That may be true; Alistair can't say with certainty that it's not. But whether or not the Chantry is telling the truth, one thing is certain: templars get addicted to lyrium. And since the Chantry controls the lyrium trade with the dwarves, they also have the perfect way to maintain control of the templars.
Unfortunately, like all drugs, lyrium has diminishing returns. The more you use, the more you need to satisfy your addiction. That's where people like the mage Godwin come in: they make a profit by selling templars the extra lyrium they require.
Is that what bioware is becoming? More action and less RPG. Come on people this is a Mass Effect in the dragon age world. There should be role playing, character creation. Bioware is just ruining the game right now. Making only human playable is just a way to evade hiring more voice actors.
So you want a trailer with two guys talking about the possible outcomes of a bloody action? Its a trailer ffs! People, c'mon? Some of you are just really over reacting. I have seen poor people worry less than you.
A trailer is supposed to be: Fun, Action packed, intresting...and most of all NO SPOILERS! A trailer is for the fun, it's not about learning new things! Thats when the bloody demo's and live conferences come in and then you can have all the gameplay you want. Actually this trailer gave more info than the first DA:O trailer did, but nooo. People don't bother watching THAT do they?
First Dragon age: Origins trailer (or one of the first).
If people stopped worrying and ****ing about "OMG MASS EFFECT" and clamed down and read that "ONLY A FEW" stuff from ME is coming to DA. What a dialouge wheel and a voice actor is going to ruin the "immersion" for you.
A first trailer is supposed to get you pumped, ready and hungry for more! Plus Dragon Age gameplay wouldn't be apporpeate for a first trailer. The combat for it is not really your "OMG NINJAZZ" style thing. It's more tactiful thus, more slower and not good for advertising.
So chill out, smoke a joint or yoga, what ever...I'm sure this game will have all the good elements from DA and ME put into one. And Bioware made witty comments for Hawke! Say Hooray if you support Alistair Hawke!
Good trailer. I also like that the site has been updated with a bit of information and an FAQ.
Trailer looked and sounded good to me. A couple thoughts: Pirate lady... could Isabella from the Pearl return by any chance? Hawke seems to use magic after he gets cut... blood magic? Fighting a horned qunari... I presume that the qunari invasion will play a major role in the plot?
some of the same thoughts but hope is was not blood magic
Also, Kate Mulgrew is SO BADASS!!! Flemeth must never die. She must be in every DA game ever. Like the phoenix, you can kill her, but she always comes back... I revere that woman.
I read somewhere that some qunari have their horns removed, as to why they do this i don't know. I can only guess that qunari remove their horns to fit in better with humans hence why every qunari merc didn't have their horns and neither did Sten. Enough about the horns already.
On a side note, from what i read from the history the qunari have cannons, so perhaps we will see some of the qunari tech in use in DA2? *prays.* I want guns!

While I agree with you on the "willing" front, I would still argue that the abilities of the Templar are simply a manifestation of the particular kind of magic anyone -- mage or no -- can learn to harness with proper discipline and training. Magic runs through everything, after all, so even "psychic" powers should -- ultimately -- be derived from it.
If only because psionics and straight-up psychic powers would be a barfworthy addition to Dragon Age, imo.

Your Alistair might be doing without it, but I'm drugging mine with lirium.
Heh I don't see why Templar's more exotic abilities can't be magic though. A mage is what the chantry defines as a mage, if they say Templar's are using the powers of faith then that's what people will believe. I kind of like the idea that the mage hunters are not much better than the mages themselves.
Well I'm sorry but this new trailer didn't do it for me. Sacred Ashes had characters, it had setting, it had narritive developement. This one? Just two guys fighting. Nothing really gripping. it just felt like "any other fight that could happen in the game) at least Sacred Ashes had purpose. This one just felt a bit uninspired. Hopefuly the finished game won't suffer from that impression.

Well, as he says, Alistair was doing all his neat Templar stuff fine before your character showed up, too... drugging or no.

Pretty much with you, there. I do hope that they go into more depth regarding the Templars and their abilities this time around, though.
I don't know if this has already been said. But in the trailer during those shots of what I presume is from Hawkes ten years of fighting and all that, did you also notice the Harverster from the dlc Golems of Amgarrak [/quote]
yeah I know when the ten years start and all that. Just got reallt exited when I saw that harvester ^^
and oh cool, I thought that might be Flemeth. I were just kind of thinking that it was some sort of fun thing to have her resemble a griffin (IF anyone else think so too, maybe it's just me )
Back to the templar topic, i still think templar abilities are some kind of a magic. Someone said that they dont even need lyrium to be able to cast those spells, yet lyrium empowers them. Its the same with mages, magic just need some source of energy (blood/lyrium/some demonic stuff or even darkspawn taint). To be honest its not even clear what magic is, the chantry describes 4 types of magic, but who are we to rely on those mindless fanatics? Hmm what about Flemeth? Im pretty sure she isnt using blood magic, neither lyrium and she got DRAGON FORM, is she even a human?
"but who's that king?hope it's not Alistair(thankfully he doesn't look like him but who knows?)"
Dragons age 2 story takes place many years after dao 1 and wardens die in 20-30 years after getting the taint, so all the dao 1 wardens should be dead
PLEASE HELP.....I NEED TO DELETE SOME DA:O CHARACTERS BBUT I DONT KNOW HOW TO....PLEASE HELP
Might want to ask in another place ... not here.
....
Oh all right I'll be nice.
If it's character in game, you need to Load Game, then choose Switch Character. Choose which profile from the list and before you load a saved game there should be an option to Delete the Profile.
If it is here on the forums ... I'm not fully sure since their updating as promised before all got borked.

But the Sacred ashes wasn't THE FIRST trailer out was it? Really, plus, if you looked deeper into it you can see the signs that this revealed much more than the sacred ashes ever did.

Nope. The story starts when Lothering is destroyed by the Blight and takes place during the following decade. So, the story will end only 10 years after the Archdemon was killed. Which means Alistair will still be king, or a drunk, or already dead after he slayed the Archdemon...

Yeah, it could be interesting how they stagger the DAO references/cameos really. They could have Alistair appear/get mentioned quite early (if he is King) for instance, or they could have it late on when he dies/leaves due to the taint.
