As for Varric (i'm 100% sure that was him in one of the screenshots preceding the trailer) - so far i'm not impressed. In concept arts he seemed like a sneaky rogue type, very agile, lithe even. On screenshot he looks like Jubba the Hutt Bioware, I am disappoint.

keep in mind it's marketing & hype'n the game, so obviously you go with the badass trailer with subtle hints sprinkled threwout, for the meatheads they got the flashy fight scene to drool over & for the geeks they got the flashback scenes & mystery powers to analyze

Indepth Story details aren't relevant in these sorts of afairs, just there to wet the whistle and get those preorders going *resumes throwing my bank account at bioware* (oh and i'm a meathead geek, i enjoyed both aspects~!)

I could definitely see that happening, but they meet pretty early on from what I've been hearing (right after Loethring), so for them to not realize each other for the duration of the game would be wierd.

Trailer looks pretty good(Bioware, 1080p version of it, give it to us!), now if only we could get some solid gameplay footage.

I'm undecided on the music. Parts of it are your standard intense chant-y dramatic trailer music and then parts of it are like WHOA WICKED GUITAR SOLO

I liked the trailer, but like most people I really want to see some gameplay highlights. I'm sure some people playing it at GamesCon will record some gameplay though. Either way, it was a very cool visual.

The weapon looks more like a specialized mage staff since it has that orb on the hilt.

It fits with some of the concept art. I can't find it now but they had a mage using a short of fire "slash" against an enemy like Hawke used in the trailer.

I'm betting Bioware finally listened to their fans and will have mage staffs do more than just point and shoot weak balls of light.  Looks like some staffs will now have a blade end which is great.  Should give whole new meaning to playing a warrior mage. :-)

Maybe Flemeth shapeshifted into one of Hawkes Lothering romances and flemeth later reveals to be who she truly is to Hawke and asks him to join together and become an unstoppable force filled with badassery.

Honestly? I'm not impressed. I would have liked to see gameplay, not a cliché Good Guy VS Big Demon Dude CGI. Still, I used to be very skeptical towards Origins, I thought it was cheesy and cheap, but in the end it became one of my favourite games. There's still a small spark of hope in me.

I really can't wait to see more now, I like the CGI version of default male Hawke better then the concept art versions on him (and Varric got nothing on Hawke!)

That was pretty cool. Most interesting part was the reveal of the pirate lady - it could be Isabella in the new art style, but either way she seems to be a love interest going by the smooching.

I got all when the narration kept referring to 'men' who challenge destiny, though. Some Hawkes are Lady Hawkes!

It's called a Polearm to answer the general question. If you want the specific name (like there are longswords and greatswords) then it's a Halberd. A sword strapped to a spear. And let the HalBEARD jokes commence!

It's a pike! Probably a half-pike, since full pike were...very long.

pikes are HUGE versions of the Spear but they are also a Polearm so you are close. Like I said, its a sword strapped on a pole for greater range. It's a Halbeard (har har u c wat i did thar?)
