From the FAQ:

4. Will I meet romanceable characters?
Yes. You will be able to engage in romances with certain NPCs in your party and throughout the world.

Now that's got me mighty intrigued.

That is quite true. The moment I saw him jumping to slash that thing, I was like, "That's not how you use a polearm, man." Halberds typically have axe-heads, don't they? But, hey, looked cool, so who cares!

Indeed they do, which makes it even wierder. To be fair, if you look at Japanese samurai there are many samurai equipped with a weapons exactly like Hawke's. I cannot remember its name (it's Japanese after all) but from blade-to-hilt-to-orb at end they're identical. I wonder... why have ancient Japanese weapons in a fantasy European setting?

Who cares, it's still a polearm so we're both right;)

Personally, I see Flemeth in a new light... the old hag, and purely evil what not.... and from the concept art, maybe she's actually one of those characters that are like Gandalf always popping out of no-where and getting the hero to do their job. (The Hobbit reference)

The trailer strikes some perculiar similairities with the NWN intro cinematic. :o

Horned oponent who wields an axe, Hero wielding a (big) sword, the desperate dirty move to win..

Not that it's bad =p I was just like, wait a minute, that remeinds me of the NWN cinematic..

Damn, i loved so much that trailer, it was awesome, and the elder voice saying "Welcome... To NeverWinter Nights"..
F**k, just awesome, and i loved nwn.

]I tried googling and tried wikipedia but nothing came out that remotely resembles the weapon. To be fair, neither does a halbeard (har har). Pikes and Spears are used for stabbing, while Halberds are used for slashing. Even if it was a half-pike then Hawke is obviously using wrong:unsure:

Kinda reminded me of a Naginata, though the blade is a lot longer and western.

Thats it!

In the flashback sequence with the (I'm assuming) love interest pirate, did anyone else think it looked like Hawke was attacking her before she pointed her dagger at him, or is my mind putting in things that aren't there to fill in the blanks?

Well, that was a rather awesome trailer in my opinion :) I'm glad it was a cinematic trailer instead of just gameplay (although I feel some people won't agree with me) because I'm pretty certain there will be plenty of gameplay released in the months to come. The flashes of Hawke's past were really interesting and that was a super-cool fight scene with an amazing looking qunari. Not only am I liking the default Hawke more but I am now extremely hyped up for DA2 :)

Great job Bioware :)

Yeah. It's a glaive (closest thing that comes to mind from the chinese would be the kwandao, and nagamaki from the japanese, not sure if the filipino arts had a glaive).
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nagamaki

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwandao

Pretty trailer. Not sure I'm happy about it, tho'. That and I still preferred the SA trailer. ('cause, y'know, that one had Morrigan  )
But I think I like the overall feel of the trailer, I guess: makes it 'feel' like more 'dark fantasy'-ish (whereas the SA trailer was more 'epic'/'heroic') ^_^

re: Gameplay vs. CGI/pre-rendered trailer
I like 'em both. I'd like to have both, too.
If anything, it would be nice if there were pre-rendered cinematics in key parts of the game (which don't necessarily have to show the protagonist/s, anyway).

So...Hawke is a blood magic user? Clawed armor hands so he can wound himself at will and use blood magic? Heh, he looked 'more evil' than the Qunari he was fighting
I wonder if that means that you can 'mix up' the 3 classes...
(fighter/mage/thief hehehe)

So who's that chick he made out with? Evidently a romance option.

Also...what, the qunari are invading?

Things that I saw/predict: Qunari invasion, burning inns (or homes?), piratical love interest, ancient ruins, dragons, a giant automaton with swords (flashes by at 1.29), giant golem (less than a second later) held together with lightning, a giant spidery-rocky monster-type thing (apparently called a strider, now I've looked at the rest of the site).

I think we're going to have some real fun with the bosses this time around. We may have fought dragons last time, and a brood mother as an unusual boss, but this is suggesting a wider variety of different, non-blight related creatures. I'm expecting historical or mythical elements are going to be important. Old gods, especially so.

I am slightly surprised by the Japanese feel of the trailer. The sword with a hilt as long as it's blade? Impractical and seems more in the style of Japanese animation. However, I notice that the concept art released has a similar oriental-flavour to it's weaponry. Maybe the Qunari really are the Japanese of Thedas. The animation style was also similar to FF VII film. Not a negative, but a surprise element in the production for me.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. I'd watch it a million more times but I'm here at work and I don't want to keep streaming the movie all day. I want to freeze frame the whole exchange to try to see what's going on.

@tennyochan - Thanks for that. I'm trying to analyze what the hell all that's about. Damn.

np ;D

my guess is the qunari guy is one of the 'bosses'. and the flashback is all the events leading up to it. but...must analyze those events mores *squints*

I love that they have Flemmeth (Kate Mulgrew) narrating this trailer! Very exciting, especially neat magic that Hawke pulled off towards the end. Qunari looks great too!

That's because it's not a sword.

Hawke also looks a bit asian.
