People assuming ME1 not being on PS3 means ME3 therefore will not mention ME1 and what you did in it won't matter. It's just people overreacting on this forum, like they always do, to every single word that comes out of the dev's mouth. It's quite hilarious.
So will our Mass Effect 1 choices even matter in ME3?

Nope the ME1 decisions meant almost nothing in ME2. You'd either get a 5 minute conversation if it was a big decision which is pretty much a throw away conversation, or an email which again had almost no relevance to anything.

They mattered plenty MIke and we have yet to see the full extent of what our decision in ME 1 will mean until ME 3 is out. Just take a look at wrex and his brother, and the hints that the rachni drop.

Shep (male/female) could romance Liara.
Manshep could have Kaidan survive.
Femshep could have Ashley survive.
Wrex could survive Virmire.
Shep could save the council.
Shep chooses who is the human representative or leader on the council (but Bioware undid that in the latest book... bad omen when you thinka bout it).

Bioware will think of something for major decisions in PS3 just wait and chill out people.
However your five minute conversations or emails to reference a side quest i'm not so sure about. Besides Conrad Verner, Giani Parisini, Fist, that Asari from Virmire and Helena Blake I met on planets the rest were just news clips.

They may have some effect in the third game, I honestly dont know. But you cant say that there were significant differences based on the ME1 decisions in ME2. Wrex was completely interchangeable with his brother in the context of the game and even the Rachni woman was only there to remind the player that they exist.

I haven't read the latest book yet, but does this mean my Udina on council play throughs are nullified? Or are they treating the books as 'canon'.
...bad omen in deed, regardless.
The implications of this are indeed unpleasant.

What kind of question is this?
Yes, obviously, your ME1 decisions will not matter. The game tracks those choices for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Bioware is clearly touting this trilogy as Shepard's ongoing saga just to mess with you. In fact, ME2's decisions won't even transfer over.
Killed the Council? Council's alive in ME3.
Kept the Collector base? Well it blew up on its own then, too bad.
Killed Fist? Came back like some kind of Crime-Jesus.
Paragon'd Garrus? Well now he's a serial killer. His first victim was Sydonis. Great job.

This depends --- would C-Sec and the Citadel be less dark and morbid if you had saved the council? I happen to have chose to let the council go up in flames because I was more worried about the Reaper threat and the 5th fleet.
Someone said the Council was still alive --- Yes...but it has more Human influence than before, you can even tell its affects based on the atmosphere of the Citadel.
