I don´t metagame if I can´t find a reason the character would take a decision that seems right. For example, if you pay attention to the society in Orzammar you realize Harrowmont´s honor stops at the casteless while Bhelen wants to help them. The caste system itself is sick.
And there was no reason to destroy the anvil of the void. I did it anyways, because I wanted to kick Branka's butt and not to lose Shale. But I guess Duncan for example, would have wanted to keep the Anvil. It was good to fight darkspawn to have golems, no matter how many dwarves died in the process.
To have a grey ending, it should have been: side with branka, lose shale, side with caridin, lose oghren

I don't think the game's design should pay any heed to metagaming at all. But if players do metagame and ruin their own experience, that's their fault. They can't reasonably blame the game designers for that.FedericoV wrote...
I do not understand your tone, it sounds a little bit polemic. If I misunderstood, sorry in advance. Having said that, my opinion from a design point of view is that if a game do not want the players to metagame their choices, it should not allow them to do so. Since most players will take the easy route and metagame. It only asks you to save the game and spend 5 minutes to see the result if I remember well. Since everyone is free to play the game they own as they like and there is not a superior way to play them (untill it's estabilished from the game itself).
Of course, you don't know you'll lose Shale when you make the choice. I certainly didn't, and defeating Caridin without a tank is probably the toughest fight in the game.filetemo wrote...

Duncan was ever the pragmatist, and clearly the pragmatic option is keeping the Anvil. My first Warden kept the Anvil for exactly this reason. But I guess Duncan for example, would have wanted to keep the Anvil. It was good to fight darkspawn to have golems, no matter how many dwarves died in the process.
I don't think the endings matter. It's the choices that matter. To have a grey ending, it should have been: side with branka, lose shale, side with caridin, lose oghren.

Sure, and I don't think the choice would have been diminished at all if one of the options allowed us to save both of them. As long as the character thinks it's a difficult choice, then it's a difficult choice.filetemo wrote...
grey ending for the quest I meant. Kinda an ashley/kaidan moment
I also think we should have been allowed to try to save both of them. Even if we'd always fail.

I wish we had the option to make a deal with Caridin [via persuasion check for example] and still keep the anvil, like telling Oghren to go get transformed into a golem if he wanted me not to execute Branka or promise Caridin to convert into Golems just members of the legion of the dead and then destroy the anvil without letting the orzammar king know the anvil was ever found.
But I'm afraid I metagamed and chose to destroy the anvil because the "bad girl" wanted to keep it and the "good guys" told me to wreck it" even if the anvil was the key to recover entire thaigs.

But you just know Beilin's gonna do something horrible with the Anvil if he gets it. And Harrowmont would waste it, because he's a pansy.

maybe I would be worried about Branka getting a personal army of golems. But if Bhelen turned all casteless dwarves into golems, it would be good for my cause. Still I couldn't bring myself to betray Caridin, I liked him and I found him worthy of respect.

That decision was always easy for me, I hated Branka with a passion. So killing her was the most joy I got out of The Deep Roads. I may have kept the Anvil for power, but that power would be given to somebody else after I worked so hard for it. So I decided if I couldn't have it there was no way I would let Branka.

They also said that we would be surprised when we figured out who the "dragon lady" was in the concept art.
Yeah, but when we say "you might be surprised" people seem to assume "you will be so shocked your head will explode" when what we mean is "the assumptions you guys are making are generally wrong". If we mean "shocked" we'll say it.
Priestly said we would be shocked. I think he even said it in all caps.

I'm still hoping for the very surprising answer of "it's up to the player who lives and who dies".David Gaider wrote...
I think the final answer of who lives and who dies might surprise you. Might surprise everyone, in fact.
Yes, that would be surprising. However, I will say that I would never choose to preserve the lives of two maybe-not-trustworthy strangers (who apparently help you out only grudgingly) at the expense of the lives of my family members.

After some banter Varric reveals that the Chantry, a church group that worships The Maker, is in ruins, the world is on the brink of war and the church needs Hawke to help reassemble the pieces.
But I want my Hawke to be anti-Chantry

I believe one of you guys already did, I remember a topic when one of you replied "When you guys finally figure out who it actually is you will be shocked, SHOCKED I TELL YOU!" And a little something after that. If I could find the topic i'd show you, I don't remember who it was but I keep wanting to say Victor, maybe Chris.

See, ANOTHER one that remembers that topic, I knew it was either victor or chris, and as a matter of fact he did all caps it. Glad to see I'm not the only one to remember.

Is it really worse than any other NPC? A sibling might well be more forgiving than most, depending on their relationship with you.

Honestly I prefer not to have any siblings. I'd rather have you build relationships in DA2, then be given one from the get go.

Understood. I have to admit I don't mind being given a family because so many games *don't* include one, even though they can be a great source of plot hooks. It's a "YMMV" thing though, I know.

Hawke with kid...that would be interesting. I smell a connor plot there...
I say the fact that we just had a "Connor plot" is a good reason not to repeat it in DA2.

if this game goes through ten years of hawke's life, is it possible for hawke to become a father in his early years of adventuring and then seeing our son/daughter 5 to 10 years old towards the end of the game?
I think Hawke having a kid wouldn't really fit too well into the storyline of Hawke becoming a champion.
