Now, the first part sounds like he was just describing the original game, as the different abilities were bundled up there as well. What is meant exactly by "linear progression" vs. a tree?

This is a progression tree.  You start at a single ability and have branches of development, as opposed to skill-->skill-->skill-->skill and you're done.  It forces you to make long-term commitments to how you want to develop your character and is less pick-and-choose than DAO.

Thank you. Well, if it was in Diablo 2, then it can't be bad. Who knows, maybe I can turn Hawke into a Hammerdin? :)

About the auto potioning for the squad. Will we be able to turn it off/adjust it? The crystal character could take too many and leaving the tank without them when s/he needs them wouldn´t be an improvement exactly. For example, losing Leliana was better than risking losing Morrigan or Sten.

Is it wrong of me to be excited about Aveline's headband?

Carver and Wesley will die.  Anyway, Mom Hawke has to live. That way, when we return to the Kirkwall estate she can keep records of all the feathers we've collected....oh wait sorry. :?

I think your mom is almost guaranteed to die. Moms never fair well in fantasy stories. I'm guessing either Avaline or Wesely won't make it either. If after escaping Lothering your next destination is Kirkwall someone with Templar connections would be the most valuable companion. Having Wesely or his wife along would make sense.

I think the final answer of who lives and who dies might surprise you. Might surprise everyone, in fact. Image IPB

I don't like surprises. Where are the red shirts when you need them ?

Cassandra must have hit him with an ugly stick.

Le drat.  He used to remind me so much of Avatar's Uncle Iroh.  And now he's...not all suave-looking.  Poo.  And if he hasn't aged well, I certainly hope Hawke has better genes than him for that ten years.  Or at least access to magical botox or something

Or the Dragonbone Heavy Chainmail, which is also red and seems to be DA's equivalent.

The whole "anyone can die" thing is a double-edged blade with me.  Often it results in me just refusing to get attached to starting NPCs because I'm convinced they're going to die, betray me, turn into sheep, eat poisoned oatmeal, or somesuch doooooom.  Though it didn't keep me from getting attached to Leske, Soris, and Tamlen.  Damnable likeable boys.

Playing the Alienage elven female, I got attached to my betrothed, and then he died trying to rescue me. I was a bit miffed with the responses my warden had when he died... So... Un-caring, for a man that I was going to spend the rest of my life with, where as before, I had the option to have happy excited responses about getting married.

Yeah. And now that I think about it. We can really draw a lot of parallels with AC2 story. In terms of family relations anyway :o

You're an Evil, evil man, Gaider. You could give Priestley a run for his money. As to just who's going to be around? BioWare and their damn tricky writing team has knocked me on my butt before with characters portrayed a certain way and then BAM, they either die or aren't available as romance options. (*cough* 'Samara' *cough*) That being the case, I won't get my hopes up on "Anyone" other then Hawke getting all the way to Kirkwall. Since I love the idea of the sibling character of Bethany I hope she's one of the survivors, but...*shruggs*
Truth be told, another hope I have is that Aveline survives. Though I was a huge Leliana **** in Origins, I always lamented the fact that we didn't have a strong female character like, say, Ashley Williams from ME1-2. Aveline seems like she's ment to fit that mold of the Hard, though compassionite, combat savy female character. If her Templar hubby dies, there's a good chance she will become a romance option later in the game, which would be an amazing opportunity for a deep, complicated love story between her and Hawke. Still, given how early it is, and how evil and devious the Writing team is, I won't be jumping to any conclusions.

There are only so many who can live and die, though. It shouldn't be that big a deal.

hmm tricky one, one would suppose it would be the most unexpected characters to survive for it to be surprising, but then perhaps you know that we will chose the unexpected and will this kill the expected, but then we know that you know that we know and there chose the unexpected to turn the surprise on our head until of course you know that we know that you know the unexpected is now the expected and therefore the expected is the unexpected but the if we know that you know that we know that you know the unexpected could be the unexpected and the expected could the expected unless you know that we know that you know that we know that you know.

therefore my conclusion, Flemeth dies.
