She is not a romance option for the player but there are things with her later…

I guess I'm in the minority as far as finding this disappointing news. Even though I thought she'd look good with male Hawke this part of the reply, and everything after it, just has me more intrigued. If the last line is any indication, she will eventually show signs of moving on from Wesley just not with Hawke. Frankly, I think I'll find romances, that don't involve the PC, more interesting to watch unfold if only because of the way Origins handled it.

That better not happen...because I'll probably kill whoever it is in a fit of rage.

Aye, I agree.
Still, Hawke deserved her, at least in my oppinion. BioWare better make her move on from Wesley and have a good life =P. We'll see, maybe the other characters are just as interesting once we get to know them. We'll see how the tiny elf with the killer smile fairs.

Of course, when all else fails, the hero who chooses not to get involved with anyone to protect them is always an option for me. From a story perspective that is. Makes the protagonist feel more like a Jedi to me, and that's my favorite.

Own your part of it. Players hunger for definitions so they can plan goals. I despise that characters need to be labelled as "romanceable" at all. Hate it. It colours expectation from the outset, like the difference between hunting and target practise. I didn’t write Aveline as a love interest, but more importantly, I didn’t write her not as a love interest. Scratch your head about that one, but I think it’s bearing fruit in the reactions. So do the impossible, forget you heard this. Because it’s not my job to give you what you want. My job is to hurt characters in interesting ways, and that includes the player character.

Come on, let me hurt you.Posted Image

Read between the lines.  This is interestingly clever.  Hats off to you sir.  Looking forward to her story.

I swear, this is more torture than I signed on for...

*let's out long sigh*
Fine, we'll do as the evil writer says. The flirt button will be there and we'll see where that leads. She may not end up with Hawke in the end, but I fully expect a heart warming moment at least.

Ok Mr. Lukas, we will play your game. I never read the article. I never heard anything. Let's see how you guys handled her story B)

To shine some light on the glaring ignorance around here--

No, she isn't romancable.

If you are nice to her however you can bring her out her shell... It will take a long time... her husband was massaccred in front of her, and she is a noble and honorable woman who loved him very much.

And maybe at the end there will be a romantic relationship. Maybe not.

But you won't be able to explore it. Because where it starts is where the game ends.

So. Don't cry Aveline fans. If you want to cry about something, cry about how Hawke isn't a proto super pimp who can make a woman forget her husband immediately after he's dead. Because he's not, and she won't.

Am I seeing a little bit too much into these words?

Ten years is a long time and Bioware have done a dead husband romance before where she got over him a lot sooner than ten years.

I am quite a bit more upset over this than I that I thought I was going to be.  It is making it difficult to compose this post without descending into vulgarity.

The writer part of my brain understands what you are saying Lukas.  You designed a human character.  Hoping, she grew organically within the plot and with the other characters.  I understand this.  I understand that any emotional response to any given character is a positive for a writer, means you are doing your job.  I will enjoy meeting her in game.  I know I will.

Yet, that emotionally angry side of myself cannot help but rage internally and impotently.  I might be wrong, but now it just seems hollow.  For a month or more, the devs have said they are moving into different territory all over the board.  Unfortunately, it just does not seem like it.  I am sure they are great characters, they generally are, but from what we have seen at this point is a mirror of Zevran with Isabella.  You can claim it's not, I don't know yet haven't played the game.  She is willing to jump our Hawke, but is emotionally distant (given the little blurb we see duirng the dev dairy), drawing parallels is pretty easy.  I just don't see myself enjoying the romance options that are available this time around.  I might be surprised, I might not be.

( It's weird.  It took me about an hour to compose this post. For know it's time for the dejection.)

What is it with Bioware fans and an obsession of doing the SAME THING over and over?

She's not Jaheira.

Not sure I would want Aveline as a romance option, actually I am sure... no I don't want her as a romance option. The whole dead husband thing rings out to much like Jahera. I would love to see a frendship that grows between her and my PC. I have yet to see BW do what I consider to be a strong friendship story line, and how it could evolve over time, warts and all some have come close (rare). Romances come and go, there a bit like stamp collecting (just more enjoyable :) ) but friends, true friends within the game worlds, seem to be a rare element.

Hm...She only sounds like Jaheira a little bit to me, what with the dead SI and all.

Aveline sounds like a very different kind of woman, strong and bold and steadfast.  I think it makes sense she may not want to love again,  having cared for Wesley so much;  sort of like how there are Knights in other fantasy stories that never feel a zeal to serve again because their favored master has died, etc.   I find it makes her more attractive and interesting, since I feel my heart would react the same way after losing "the one."

I think I agree with the others who want to do her paths in order to know more of her, even without the romantic attachment.

I'm sensing that she's going to end up being the Samara of DA2. The way it was written out in the interview suggests it in a way. At least to me it did...

THAT is exactly what I was thinking, I would be absolutely fine with this if I can romance her in Dragon age 3, PLEASE let it be so.

It seems from all these Interviews, Aveline is the favorite of many of the dragon age team, to bad us folks here are the only ones able to see it fro. The get go, like I said eaier once the game has been out awhile I am sure many a more dragon age lovers will come around to our side.

That's exactly what Jaheira was on the surface in BG2, she was a knight to her husband, a protector of Gorion's ward and a harper agent sworn to keep balance in the world. She wanted others to see that she was in control, she had an air of respect around her and a stern yet soothing voice that could calm an angry pitbull.

Dead Husband doesn't define a character, she wouldn't be Jaheria.

I'm sorry for Aveline fans. I am not disappointed probably because I like a lot all the three femal character that were possible romances, so whatever Bioware would have chosen, I could be fine.

Remember, that's still the possibility that Bioware let us romance some NPC outside the party :).

You know what, Meredith.  I would be fine with Meredith.  I am still upset about Aveline, but giving us a female warrior LI might help the sting.

EDIT:  Why is it that it seems like Bioware panders to the 'No Guy Wants an Amazon' trope

Now I understand what Samara fans felt. I really do. However, her not being a LI doesn't mean we can't enjoy her as a character. Can't we have the game already? :)

Is Aveline the same or named after the Aveline that Leiliana tells a tale of? that Aveline was an abandoned human raised by Dalish.
