I still don't get it why Aveline can't be LI just because her husband dies. You could romance Jaheira in BG who had similar sad story (and character as it seems) and there even was no need to wait 10 years for her to come around. Is it perhaps writers didn't want to make these two characters too similar? Story wise I think that either Aveline will become too messed up about it and won't see anyone around her, focusing her life on defending other misfortunates, or *gasp* (imagine that ) doesn't find male Hawke attractive .

It's the same writer for both, like you said, perhaps Luke didn't want to write Jaheira 2.0.

In the end I just decided that for whatever reason I wouldn't interpret the reasons or the possibilities ( even if I think of them! lol) , Aveline's story must just be better experienced, which is the main point that I took home from the news. I decided to BE the player character and just "live" the game and see what happens without expectation of who is and who isn't a LI. In fact, I personally would prefer games probably if I *never* knew, because then, somehow, what happens ( to me I should note) feels more authentic. Knowing every detail of option *does* change the game for me, I want to try to suspend logic, even just the first time. Which, also probably means the closer the game is to being out, the less I will be on the forums, esp since my game comes 8-10 days after release. lol

Who knows what will or won't happen with Aveline. I do know though, that it sounds as though she is an awesome character I would love to "meet".

 I wake up in the morning check the treads and find out the worst piece of information ever. I has a sad. 
At least I can take solace in the fact that we have three designers who say Aveline is thier favorite character. She still will be one of the better characters the player meets in the entire game.

Huh.

I held out hope that she would be an LI, especially the slim chance that she could be available for fem!Hawke too but to see she's not available is both upsetting and disappointing like many of you have said. Being tee only character that's holding my interest sort makes it a semi bitter pill to swallow but I guess it's one of those things. In saying that though if she does end up being as complex and well written like Samara was for my fem!Shep interactions, then I can deal with that 

She seems like an awesome character all around so I can settle for having a close friends/sisterly like bond with her over the 10 years. If my Hawke can be there and overcome obstacles with her like a good friend would then I'm all for it!
Hahaha oh well, looks like my Hawke will be celibate for the canon run

...that's if Merill isn't available of course

I prefer either the 'drown sorrows in ale' or 'the Jedi that doesn't get involved' type of storylines for my cannon Hawke, but we'll see after a few playthroughs

I don't know what's this fuss about. Some characters are just not interested in Hawke. So what? It makes sense, it actually is more natural than the Mass Effect approach.
I'm really glad that there is a character who is actually more than a bedding option. Your friendship/rivalry with her will obviously take a different path, and it was really time for something like that.

It's not a mistake, it's something great, a step in the right direction.
Some people simply overrate romance in these games, it's about the characters and the story, not about climbing everything that has holes.
I'm glad for it.

Ah i'm all raged out now and after a good night of howling at the sky and running naked over the moors i'm feeling a bit more sane, still hacks me off that the only attractive female we've seen barring that templar lass (meredith is it) will be only a sword brother and friend to our Hawkeye still Sten was my strong right hand and blood brother who I valued over any of the lasses in origins but there you go.

It's Lukas Kristjanson writing her so I expect nothing less than awesome but with that voice and temperament placing her out of bounds is like sticking a big bloody red steak in front of me and saying now don't eat this, bioware you're forcing me to be a bloody evil lettuce munching vegetarian when I want good raw red meat.

Same here, Sten was my Warden's right hand man (and he was my favorite character of the whole game).

I took pictures during my Nightmare runs. He's in all of them (example)

Alright, I've time to sleep and calm down a bit more. This is still the most disappointing piece of news. I can live with it, I really can. It has helped me find a question I intend to ask tomorrow though.
