That's what I was thinking, too! Good to know I'm not the only one who had that sense.Inzhuna wrote...
I am actually thinking that Aveline might 'give in' to feelings by the end of the 10 years if you don't romance anyone else and try to woo her throughout the game.
So we won't see the romance play out but we will know that Hawke and Aveline might have a future after the game is finished.
I think I will definitely do a Male Hawke in love with Aveline playthrough regardless. It's too bittersweet. to resist.
I can understand that. I don't want to go so far as to say the devs have a "responsibility" to fans... but I do think the way this news came out was pretty harsh, so strong feelings make sense. With Fenris, we got a caution from DG to be careful with our expectations; I don't know if a similar one was given here (and I don't know if Fenris is an LI or not yet) but I think it's maybe a good idea in some cases.Shiro_the_Gambler wrote...
The venom was not just
unleashed from learning Aveline isn't going to be a love interest. I
got over that real quick. What got my ire up though, and what caused
the overload of hyperbolic statements; was the statement that it was my
fault for having high expectations. Now that I've calmed down
significantly, my expectations have risen from self-indulgent doomsaying
to the characters are going to be passable, at best.
I still disagree with your POV on the characters--I think the similarities will be shallow at best--but I can't blame you for tapering your expectations after a blow like this. For what it's worth, I would feel the same way and I don't think my comments would be any less cynical in such a case. But I hope (and believe) that things with Aveline and the other characters turn out better than you're expecting, for everyone's sake.
At first, I lol'ed because the post made no sense to me. Then, I read a bit further to the part about being attacked by all the companions and stabbed to death by Sten's sword and realized it was actually rather creepy, as it sounds kinda like you were making a threat directed at me for daring to disagree with your Alistair.moilami wrote...
I raise my hat and bow Alistair he had the guts to drop you. He did just the right thing, he was IC and not your puppet.
You
forget by the way that Alistair would had had friends there, and to
make it realistical they should had followed Alistair and say forget
that chick, she was never worth of you.
*snip*
*ding* Sten pushes his sword fully through you.
*ding* You don't feel so badass anymore.
*ding* You wonder what went wrong.
*ding* You have died.
*ding* You are dead.
Alistair betrays Duncan's whole philosophy by demanding Loghain's execution--recruiting anyone, despite their past, because the cause of the Grey Wardens is what's important and not the personal honor of its members; thus Alistair is dishonoring Duncan's memory by ignoring what his old mentor would have wanted and basically saying "Forget all the darkspawn and the archdemon and all the important stuff I spent the whole game lecturing you about that might destroy the world if you fail without me at your side; you won't execute Loghain and instead want to use him for a purpose in a completely fitting punishment that might kill him anyway! I am so breaking up with you and abandoning the kingdom and all my other responsibilities!"
That was "guts"? Alistair even said he knew how messed up his actions were but that he couldn't emotionally stand the thought of Loghain being a brother Warden. You think that was "the right thing"? I never said it wasn't IC, but the idea that it was more than a tragic mistake on Alistair's part that he regretted deeply (hence, the life of alcoholism) and alleging that the player should be abandoned by her friends and then murdered for refusing to murder someone else is just plain unfathomable. Especially since my character was a Brosca--having done things she regretted because she believed she had to was a huge reason for her to, IC, sympathize with Loghain and feel alienated from squeaky-clean Alistair. He is no less ruled by his past than the PC. That was sort of the point of Origins. People make emotional decisions. Why is that okay for Alistair and not for the PC? Why should every companion forget the Blight and murder you just in order to make him feel better about you refusing to murder the guy he hates?
What I'm seeing is that you personally attacked a female user for a comment made in passing to another user, then reported a different female user, but have been reasonably civil to all the males in this thread. That doesn't do anything to make me less than disturbed by your comments. At best, maybe your girlfriend left you and it's coloring your perceptions, but even if that's true, it doesn't explain your post.
But this is the last I'll say about the matter on here, as this thread is about Aveline. I won't derail this thread any further. I've explained my reasoning on the matter of Alistair, which was meant to be a highly emotional moment in the game in the first place, and I'll leave it at that.

On Topic however: Lukas said he didn't write her as a romance...but he didn't NOT write her as one either...which gives me hope involveing another beautifuly tragic Samara moment at the end of the game. They care for each other...but she isn't willing to embrace it yet as she believes duty must take priority.

Aw, that sounds like it could be a really romantic story. Young M!Hawke meets Aveline and falls hard, but she's grieving/not ready for love again - but he continues to faithfully love her from afar for years.Wynne wrote...

Reminds me a little bit of Col. Brandon and his quiet, enduring love for Marianne in Sense and Sensibility. <3

Anyway Wynne, I think your reasoning for sparing Loghain makes for great rp material! I spared him only because I was playing a naive templar who hated killing and avoided it whenever possible... (this of course meant I ended up at a very low level at game's end.)
But I wonder how Aveline feels about the killing of non-darkspawn defeated enemies?

"She is not a romance option for the player but there are things with her later… she can come out of her shell to some degree…! That’s one advantage of the passage of time. By the end of the game her husband’s been dead for 10 years."
What does this mean???

Indeed...I shall be happy with a beautifuly tragic Samara senario. But if it's like a flat out "Nope! no Aveline for you! Find someone else to woo!" kinda thing...yes....my fury shall burn with the heat of a thousand suns. And I shall pray to the egyption pantheon to bring down the seven plauges upon the Bioware DA office.thesuperdarkone wrote...
That's hoping if Bioware even gives us an option to express an interest in Aveline which I hope we at least get ala Samara. If not, then I suspect rage all around

We know this already lol...were talking about the possibility of a Samara situation.KproTM wrote...
Did the Devs not confirm it? I clearly remember them stating that she's not a romance option... technically... wait, let me find the link and quote:

Your actions are illogical. All possible results for this encounter have been calculated. The Pantheon will receive BioWare's evil regardless of outcome.

That would make the story very beautiful, even if it is heartbreaking.

... indeed...because in that one moment...she almost gives in to how she feels. That one scene speaks to me very loudly...it's so beautifuly tragic. I could without question live with this type of thing with Aveline.JediHealerCosmin wrote...

But no..he has not said you can flirt with her...I think we are just hopeing you can...because hope dies last. Also since Mr Lukas was VERY careful with his choice of words regarding the subject. Which he probably simply said it that way to prevent the riot from continueing. But who knows...still...hoping for at least another Samara.

Didn't Lukas say we can still flirt with Aveline? So that means we can express interest in her. Oh, and that quote is what I'm basing my theory on.
Basically what he said was try to forget what anyone says and always try the impossible. I'm not very sure if the Flirt button exists for non-romance characters, but I guess that's something we will have to discover ourselves.
On one had however, there is an achievement in which we are required to use the Flirt button in order to succesfully begin a romance.
Trying to make heads or tails of this situation can be weird and funny at the same time
