I am thinking more of a Jaheira vibe from her.

Yes that what the impression I was getting after reading the brief bio and pics but was struggling to put a name to it, so long since I played BG. Thanks for helping Image IPB

I'm really surprised that it's not just common sense that Aveline eventually dons appropriate armor later on after the escape. Really? People actually believe/believed that she would wear some sort of commoner's outfit/leather apron/whatever for ALL ten years????

uh,,,,,would you have Believed (before ME2 came out) that miranda would NOT wear a sealed hardsuit/light armor in vombat and in vacuum environments? possibly not and yet she does

ME2 is in the sci-fi genre. so any oddball clothing decisions are largely irrelevant if the individual in question is a biotic who is capable of making force-fields, barriers, etc. - in theory at least. On a practical level, I find the Miranda catsuit outfit silly, but that's neither here, nor there.

SInce DA:2 is dark fantasy and semi-grounded in reality as far as non-magical combat goes, I'm pretty sure that it should be common sense that an actual warrior isn't going to wear his/her refugee outfit for the rest of his/her natural life (especially not if they're engaging in combat). :P

Eh, who needs armour anyway. If you can survive in hard vacuum without any sort of protection, you can certainly survive in the thick of combat in a leather apron.

Still, apparently she's getting armour later on. Can we see what she'll look like in that then?

If it was considered appropriate for the "sweeping uber fight like a Spartan" cinematics, yes. That seems to be what the main focus is on, at any rate. Who cares the armor value would be the same as wet tissue paper? It looks good in the cinematics. Common sense has nothing to do with this issue; http://social.biowar.../index/5113136  so far 18 pages and counting. It appears that "the game" changes the armor when it is deemed appropriate. "The player" can only add rings, belts, and runes. The look of the outfit stays the same. So the idea of Aveline wearing the same apron with added runes for the whole ten years isn't that far of a reach.

Atreya you know as well as I do that the ME2 "a biotic field did it" explanation is utter BS

by that logic  my biotic shepard should be able to do the same and/or be able to survive getting spaced with no sealed suit....also Biotic fields do not affect temperature so how exactly does Jack survive with only a nipple belt on while in vacuum?

Thanks for the completely irrelevant response. I'm perfectly aware of the unique one-piece outfit looks for NPCs and the discussions that have gone on about it, having actually participated in threads about that issue and the inventory, etc. etc. If you want to rant about the one-piece outfit thing, I'm sure that the other thread is a more appropriate place to do so.

I think it is common sense that the devs have actually been smart enough to include outfit changes that are logical in this case - like Aveline wearing armor. *rolleyes* And I think it is a stretch to believe that Aveline would wear that apron for ten years. I suspect the fact that you think it isn't a stretch has more to do with your obvious displeasure over the direction the game is taking.

I was looking at an opponent wearing what looked like it was supposed to be mail, maybe splintmail, and it was oddly fabric-like as well. It looks like these things have no stiffness, thickness or weight. Hopefully an early draft.

we will not know until the devs grace us with more info but if ME2 is anything to go by we will not know until we play the game as EVERY ME2 screenshot (aside for obvious outfit DLC screenies) always shows off the default outfits

I love her outfit but I get the feeling some other fans may not agree. Something about it not looking like actual armor.

I seems stupid for a tank to wear simple clothing. And for 10 years too

She would agree. So she doesn't. Image IPB

It's a game that is clearly not hard sci-fi (even if it wanted to be, which I'm pretty sure it doesn't). The only time I really expect or care about having detailed explanations and plausible logic is in an actual hard sci-fi book. Give me an Arthur C. Clarke novel, and then I will expect some measure of convincing technological details, etc. You can find contradictions or mistakes or things that people just didn't think to address in just about any movie, book, or game. The reason I threw the biotics thing in is that it's kind of like the almighty Force in Star Wars (which belongs in the sci-fantasy genre). People will just throw the Force in as a blanket BS explanation when a jedi gets "creative," and most people just go with it unless they have a bone to pick.

You should look up that Red Letter (I think) review of SW Episode I: The Phantom Menace. It gets pointed out that the jedi do plenty of stupid things, including NOT using powers they obviously have, like Force Run or whatever you want to call it, that was used at some point. In a later situation where said power could have proved useful, the jedi seemed to have completely forgotten about their nifty ability.

Now how IS Jack breathing and protected in a vaccuum - a respirator and non-biotic force-field, perhaps? I don't really give a flying fig what the explanation for it was, if there was even an explanation for it. If I cared that much about logical consistency, I probably wouldn't play any games at all - ever. I could argue how the fact that Amanda and Sarek could even conceive of a half-vulcan and half-human son (Spock) seemed pretty unlikely (in Star Trek). And yes, I've read the explanation for that one a while back. From what I vaguely recall, it  involved the magical intervention of medical/scientific technology so that the two completely disparate biologies could result in viable offspring. *rolleyes@that one* I never really bought that particular explanation for Spock, but I thought to myself: okay, fine. It's sci-fi, and I'm willing to suspend my disbelief.

As far as Aveline goes, for the umpteenth time, I think it's pretty logical to believe that a warrior will not wear her apron forever and ever when non-magical combat in the game clearly has some grounding in reality because people wear armor and wield swords, axes, maces, daggers, etc. Any illogical crap that happens in other games isn't particularly relevant as far as I'm concerned, not when the devs are from a different team.

EDIT: Oh joy, I saw the other post where you point out that Aveline has her studded leather apron in the concept art. I'm sure that means she'll wear it for life. Seriously, if she DOES end up wearing it the whole game, then yes, please complain to the devs about it should that disastrous turn of events come about. *rolleyes* I have actual work to do atm - can't believe I wasted this much time arguing over a stupid apron. I should never come here when I'm trying to work. :P

Does anyone else get the feeling she may have been a blacksmith before becoming a fighter? I think I remember them saying they intentionally gave her really beefy arms, and the apron she's wearing reminds me of a blacksmiths apron.

yet she has the money for a new sword and a templar shield?

I swear if you say "she might have looted those" there's gonna be a problem because at that I'll have to answer "and she could not loot a freaking armor?"
