Unless I misheard and she said 'Mordor shall rule,' in which case we're all screwed.

I'm hoping for "Mordin shall rule," myself :?

I think "Order shall rule" is fine as far as battlecries go, but I think battlecries in general are pretty lame. They're up there with named weapons as some of my least-favorite fantasy staples.

I'm overly negative.  With Lukas' comment on specifically not writing her as not a romance; I can concluded quite a few probable scenarios.  The first that springs to mind; is that all the writers had a discussion involving which characters had a greatest and least impact on the over all plot which decided which characters would have romance sub-plots.  The second which is similar to the first except it involves which characters appeal to a greater number of players overall.  The third, Gaider just decided which one got written in as the romance sub-plots.  I could continue but it'd be rather pointless.

Maybe, but we should try to focus on the fact that these are BioWare companions. By definition, they all have their parts to play within the story, and the choices made by the writers were all done with a reason. (try to ignore the marketing department, otherwise you will get vengefull ;) ).

Mr. Lukas' response had a few hidden things within it, but I imagine only he really knows what he fully meant. But the man is right: if we really want to enjoy Aveline and the story itself then we have to work hard on an important mental exercise. Forget what we read, forget what we heard, and forget that she was written to be something by someone.

I also think that the "hurting" part he mentioned had something hidden somewhere, considering that he used it several times. But the game is very close so I wouldn't focus too much on it. :P

Yea...but I've always found trying to do things like that are harder then most, for me anyway. Sadly my memory is like a bear trap, once I learn something it useualy stays there. The only way I normaly forget is if right after learning it...I sever all ties to the source of where I learned it and avoid the source material like a plauge for about half a year...so clearly it's far too late by now. But yea, despite my immense hatred of Jacob Lukas seems like a bad a** who knows what he's doing. Of course all us fanboys (and girls) are goona delude ourselves into thinking shes madly in love with Hawke and has lots of wet dreams about him *cough* Part 1 *cough*. I'm actually kinda scared atm because most of my fan-fiction seem eerily accurate from where I sit so far...

Hmmm. FanFiction plays an... let's say important part. Remember in Origins that you couldn't romance Sten. However, in the end, you had the choice of leaving with him. In your mind, and considering that the Warden's story is over, you could say that you actually did the impossible; or better yet the impossible happened sometime afterwards behind the scenes ;)

Another example that fits this situation is the following: there is an old cartoon show called "The Critic" with Jay Sherman. It wasn't very successful, but it was one of my favorites. Maybe a few people will remember it.

Anyway, there was an episode where Jay was in love with a girl, that had been through a very tough divorce. At the very end of the episode, she finally gets over the whole situation but doesn't end up with Jay in that very instant. Instead, she says that maybe one day the two of them will be together.

Sound familiar? ;)

Whatever the case, if the ending to DA2 involves a situation similar to these two, then I consider myself satisfied.

First off, loved that show.  Second, they did end up together before the end of the series.  Thirdly, I am in a similar situation as Kyle; I'll latch onto something and my brain won't let it go.  Fourthly, I'm just hoping this does not set a precedent for future Dragon Age games.  By that I mean, and this is rather nitpicky of me, the two love intetersts for guys are a mage and a rogue.   Even if they have different (allegedly ) but similar seeming tropes attached to them.  Do not get me wrong though, I cannot wait to meet and interact with Aveline throughout the game but I'm pretty sure it won't end with any romantic inklings.  At all.

Hehe, well I know what happens later, but I was focusing more on the episode itself ^_^
I know how the situation mostly looks, and I, like you, believe the outcome won't have romantic entaglement. However, the belief is in conflict with several other ideas. Along the lines of 80-20% to be honest.

It's hard to fully think that nothing will happen considering a few things we witnessed:

- Aveline has that 'jealous' response towards Isabela (I checked with both LadyHawke and ManHawke, and I made the same choices for each - only ManHawke has this response)
- as we've seen today, she keeps 'watching' him. Whatever this implies, I have absolutely no idea, but it's better than nothing :P

Did you forget the Video Diary? "I've been keeping an eye on you"...pluse her Friendship ability of her personal abilitys tree basicly says "Aveline's dedication to Hawke is so absolute she absorbs some of the damage directed at him" I mean...honestly it seems like we can expect SOMTHING to come from pursueing this. Lukas said he didn't NOT write her that way...you can look really deeply into that and go "if shes not a romance then that could simply mean theres no sexy time scene...that does not however rule out a Samara scene", which coming from Aveline...would be as good as sex lol.

I have, unfortunately, learned my lessons well. Do not take anything that is said at face value from these developers and do not get my hopes up.

Thank you.  That is my general philosophy.  Of course, Aveline dashed that thought process quickly, and the devs helped to reaffirm that philosophy just as harshly.

I thought it was stronger BECAUSE I felt Aveline was holding back tears with all her will. It was probably the most emotional scene in the demo for me, waaayyyy more powerful than Hawke's sibling's death.

Indeed. When the sibling died it was more like an "avenge him/her" kind of way. But with Wesley... you actually felt really sorry.

Well of course...the devs have said several times the sibling death wasn't meant to be emotional. It's used for plot points later on in the game. But yes...Aveline holding back her tears made that even more beautiful.

True, but they could've infused a little more emotion into it.

That said, Wes and Aveline have all the demo's best emotional moments/lines:

"They shall not have you!"
"Not while I breathe"
"The Order dictates."
"The 'spawn are always clear in their intent..."
The whole of Wesley's death scene

Maybe cuz they wanted to show off the awsomeness of Aveline right off the bat..whereas the dead sibling...dies and can't contribute to that playthrough? idk...might be more emtional on the second playthrough once you know that dead sibling better.
