Oh? Maybe I should’ve watched more Conan and less Thundercats. Unless we’re talking about the movies. I never saw those.

Aye...the second movie...Conan the Destroyer.

I think I may have found a gripe with a game I haven't played yet...

but that aside, think the reason there's no possible relationship between Hawke and Aveline has to do with Bethany? perhaps the mage/templar feud felt like a cause for Wesley's death?

Also, she's from Orlais, how come she doesn't have the accent Leliana does?

I think it has something to do with the fact her father was a disgraced Chevalier. Probably had to leave Orlais when she was younger and so was exposed mostly to Ferelden. That is just an hypothesis.

I'm not sure the mage/templar feud would feel like a cause for Wesley's death. It was the blight that killed him. The wiki says that there seems to be uneasiness between Aveline and Bethany due to Bethany being a mage. If that is so (I don't remember the wiki's source for that), then if Bethany isn't there I would imagine that she would feel the same towards a mage Hawke. That kind of tension could be a reason why there's no relationship, but then again there is supposed to be tension between the Dalish and humans and those relationships are possible in the game. If the writers wanted Hawke/Aveline to be, they probably could've found a way to make it work. Or if there's a reason it can't work, maybe that information's in the game. I'm in camp "wait and see". Not long, now.

Makes sense. Or it could be a DA: O tie in. I doubt she's the same Aveline from Leliana's story. Perhaps she's a decendant of the fabled heroine, but her family was exiled/fled after her death? You know, prior to her being knighted posthumously.

Just a thought.

Doesn't Bioware manage their own wiki?

Well, people can sometimes get irrational and frustrated with death. Its human to want to find someone/thing to blame.

That's a good point about human and the dalish, but then again Merril could be dissgraced and exiled from her clan. We've seen it before with an elven mage. At any rate, your right its only a matter of days now.

They manage their own wiki? I didn't know. On the right side of the wiki is a box with links to articles with "edited by so-and-so" under them, so I just assumed it could be fiddled with by anyone. I know what they say about assumptions, but sometimes I just can't help myself.

Yes, it's true we don't know if Merrill is exiled or not, and yes people do get irrational and frustrated. Points taken. There's so many Mights and Maybes and Then Agains in these conversations. I kinda like it. The game's so close to release and there aren't too many solid facts floating around, leaving the surpises unspoiled. I'm sorry you guys didn't get the romance you wanted, but maybe events will still play out wonderfully in-game. *equips Helm of +10 Optimism*

Theres two wikis...ones the "offical" wiki with nothing in it...the other is the exspansive "fan wiki" that everyone uses.

Because she's not from Orlais.

The wiki's source for that was the demo we've all played.

Yes, but Jay seemed to be the one spearheading that and since he left, nothing much has happened to it.

I'm assuming, I know actors have their "handlers" obsess over those things, tv shows, directors, etc. do it to check on the accuracy. Makes sense for Bioware to do the same.

The anxiety is kicking in. We never know, bioware has a history of teasing and omitting details about games, so you wont know until you're playing it.

My bad, got her mixed up with the fabled hero from Leliana's story. Still wonder if they're rlated.

Good to know. I haven't played the demo. By the time I can download it, the game itself will be out in just a week, so I think I'm going to pass.

A good policy for people like me. I spoiled almost everything about DAO for myself beforehand. Of course, it'd been out for over a year by the time I got around to playing it.

I doubt it.

From 'Aveline never became the knight her father wanted her to be,' I assume he's like a father who names his son Eisenstein and pushes him into sciences or a woman who named her son Beethoven and forces him to take piano lessons as soon as he can sit up.

Besides, the woman from Leliana's story got her throat slit before she could produce progeny unless you are talking about some human/fey half-breed.

Could be a niece or related in some other fashion. Also, the story could be different than Leliana tells it. Bioware's done that a few times. Your explanation makes more sense though, a dad pushin his kid to be like his hero.

Leliana's Aveline died centuries ago. There's a possibility that they could be related. I'm related to Aaron Burr*. But, it would just be coincidental, and it's silly to suggest it based solely on the fact that they share a name.

They simply share a name, but in the space of a narrative it makes sense for it to hold some level of significance.

There is probably some significance but it's not really central.

I doubt they are related in any fasion...nor do they need to be. There are VERY few female Chevaliers...those there are make Aveline their patron since she was the first woman Chevalier. So obviously her father...who wanted his daughter to be a Chevalier and reclaim glory for their family name...would name her after the most famous woman in the history of Orlais. So that if she did achieve greatness...he could claim that he sired Aveline reborn and more then likely reclaim some glory himself. So really just because they share a name does not in any way mean they are related. In fact I kind of hope they aren't because that would be kinda cheesy in my opinion.

This sucks that the main tanking character in the game is an overgrown ugly woman. Battling with a shield against many opponents, taking a lot of hits and holding the line no matter what is man's job. Would like to see a dwarf or qunari tank much more! Aveline as a strongest and most resilient party member just doesnt sit right in my head...

In DAO the dwarf (Oghren) and the Qunari (Sten) were terrible tank characters (due to them being two handed weapon wielders.)
