Oh we are picky. We picked the most awesome character you guys have created, but you all picked not to allow us to have her.
It causes no end of amusement here in the writing pit that the hypothetical romance I didn’t write is/would apparently have been/is better than the actual romances you haven’t seen. A quantum state, like assumptions about the playfulness of Schrödinger's cat and, I don't know, Freud's box terrier.
Aveline is what she is because it was right for the character, because of and despite player demand for “romance” and “non-romance” labels, categories that I have already said I despise because they restrict more than they benefit.
Besides, taking what players already have is easy. As a tool of manipulation, I much prefer "want."

Still, I'll wait to see the other romances, and how they play out. But when you make so many awesome characters in ONE game, it's just not fair because then some awesome characters get no loving. Well maybe Varric does, he probably admires his incredibly manly chest hair in the mirror.
*Sigh* if Aveline appears as a companion in a future Dragon Age game, can she be a romance there?

Depending how this one turns out, a rotating cast might work out better for the game overall.

someone should get on that and make it happen. If not in game, then in a DLC

psst... take the hint.
And it's not like we're picky. Expansion, DLC... maybe even a patch ../../../images/forum/emoticons/angel.png

I know what you mean, a romance between Aveline and Hawke would make for an interesting sub plot.Mesina2 wrote...
Why isn't she romancable?!
I am pretty sure this is the reason, she wasn't a romance option. It sucks I know.
That article is so bulls**t. Cheerleaders? Seriously, cheerleaders? Happy people are annoying as f**k. especially ones with plastic polychromatic tassels. Dark, brooding, slightly disturbed or disturbing definitely capture my attention, not someone who's primary activity centers around a need for attention.
Hmm... now I wonder what that admission says about me...

Uhh, there's tons of annoying AVELINE IS A MAN BECAUSE SHE'S STRONG LULZ comments, too. I think every character is getting their fair share of idiotic feedback.

For what it's worth, I'm optimistic about all of them, going by not only what we saw in the demo but also the short stories that were posted (I don't know much about Merrill, but she seems cute).

I don't have a problem with Isabella...shes just not the type of girl I like. As for Merrill...yes...I do not like her and I probably won't ever like her...I am biased against elves in fantasy and always will be so long as they are considered the most beautiful creatures to ever live which is typically how fantasy holds them. I'm tierd of the "elf thing", as long as theres an "elf thing" I just can't like elves.

I do know I have not seen the romances we have been given. It would also be rather foolish of me to believe the writers would shovel sub-par sub-plots onto us. I just will not be expecting anything special from them. It has been made clear that Dragon Age II will be another Bioware game, and I should expect nothing more of it. The characters will be well done, the plot will be well done, and the sub-plots will be well done, but that is it. However, this does set up precedences (as self-indulgent as this is) for what I am to expect from this team, that if repeated in future installments of the Dragon Age franchise will turn me off of it. This simple outlook will not allow me to get excited for another character again. Excitement breeds expectations and a wish to explore a deeper emotional relationship with said character which is a terrible idea, I guess.
It should not have come as a big of a shock as it did when I learned Aveline did not have a romance sub-plot. A widow warrior that wants to protect those near her, obviously does not have the same draw as a promiscuous pirate with a heart of gold or an elf mage ostracized from her clan. It did though, and with the apparent flippancy of her wirter to those of us who did get excited about her, makes me leery of any future Dragon Age game.
I will say this though. I am glad that these discussions give the writing pit a chuckle. It makes it seem like they actually care what we think. They do not, but it seems like they do.

I can't say I blame you...and it can hurt alot when your always in the minority mind-set...which typically gets the shaft for obvious reasons. But like Pandroa told Kratos in GoW3, you can't abandon hope, because hope is what you fight with when all else is lost. Even if it's the slightest flicker you can't let yourself get so badly upset about optional content. While I too understand what your saying...I wouldn't nearly go as far as not buy another Bioware game over somthing like this. While some may mock and insult me, I can only find comfort the arms of pixels, I have never been attracted to real people. So while it does indeed hurt that I don't particularly look forward to whats offered. I keep looking towards the future and hope my mindset becomes popular enough to be taken more seriously one day. Because Bioware listens to us more then any other Dev I know, so the chances of somthing happening is better with them than anyone else.
