I just want to say I'm enjoying the character and her interactions with Carver.

Devs say Aveline is not LI, but my F!Hawke found a dialogue option after she was promoted to captain:
<3-(I forgot the text)-"I need you Aveline."
the <3 options are supposed to begin romance, aren't they? Or It's just my misunderstanding?

That line is there after you complete an important quest for Aveline. There is a heart icon, but I would not say that it is romantic in context...at least with her. But it does open a way to provide a boost to your friendship, and it is a very well done and touching scene, imo.
Some spoilers related to this quest, and I wish I could share so I'll just stop now;)

If it was a purple heart with a few lines in it, no. It was a Charisma option. This one is used for many characters, to use your charms on them. It doesn't mean it's necesserely going to be romance.

I still haven't played much, but Aveline is a breath of fresh air when it comes to warrior women in fantasy games. Most tend to be skinny things in chainmail bikinis wielding weapons that weigh twice as much as they do. It's nice to see a female soldier who looks serious enough to actually mix it up in combat with the big boys.
Very much agreed! I like her a lot especially since she's one the protection my mage half the time lol!

Is anyone else having this problem? Do I have to do a special quest to get her?
I can see her on the party screen but I can't select her
EDIT: Apparently I have to go to Viscounts Keep.

I was really disappointed once I found out that you couldn't persue a relationship with her. I did as much as I could to get there and then -bam- I hit the mission where you take her and the other guardsman out on the patrol.

Yeah I ran into that quest this morning. (I'm in EST) It made me so sad:crying:. But at least seeing Aveline trying to woo the other guard was hilariously awkward. lol

This quest made me sick to my stomach and almost forced me to vomit out of sheer anger and resentment...in fact I went as far as reloading a save that was at least three hours behind just to redo that quest and say "Pfft I ain't helping you" considering all the dialouge options shoehorns ALL your efforts into a waste of time...actually more then that...have the exact oppisite effect! Even if you pick all the options at the end of the quest the game forces your Hawke to act like he never gave a damn in the first place. That will forever be my most hated quest.Dark_Dahlia wrote...

Really? Cause my Hawke chose the broken heart symbol as the final dialouge for that quest and he said something along the lines of "Donnic is a lucky man, I hope you two are happy together."kylecouch wrote...

Aveline is ridiculously fun to have around. I love her.
Oh, I know! I was unimpressed with her (actually, I wasn't looking forward to any of the female companions) when the game was announced, but I love her. In the beginning, the conversations she has with Carver, always make me lol very hard. And I loved her personal quest, when she was trying to figure out what to get him as a gift and suggest goats to his mother. XD Anywho, I was really surprised after I finished her quest she gave my Hawke a kiss in thanks. Made me go 0_o a little bit.

When doing her quest, I mainly picked the "flirt" options, then the nice or sarcastic options. After she goes and talks to Donnic, she comes back and and thanks my Hawke and gives her a kiss. I'm not entirely sure what the exact phrasing I said to obtain it, I just thought it was strange. Obviously it was a friendly kiss beause she just hooked up with her future husband, but it was very strange to me.
