I didn't like Aveline to begin with, but I ended up loving her to pieces.
I would seriously love to find a woman like her. The line that sold me for the Aveline camp was
"Face me! I stand for all of us!"

Ugly ******.

Fortunately, I was able to mod her and give her Leliana's face, and that helped.

@Cambios Ugly ******? I don't think she's ugly or ******-ish at all! She's quite beautiful and strong.

Indeed, Aveline is great just as she is.

Aveline was always on my team, and in general is one of my favorite characters in the game. I really enjoyed the humorous parts of her character too. Also was fun to see her sort of become friends with Isabela by the end.

There's something horrifying about the idea of walking into Aveline's office and seeing her with Leliana's face.

Aveline... with Leliana's face? Wow, creepy.

(And anyway, I think she's perfect as is.)

I really like her strong bone structure. Both Aveline and Isabela are great non-traditional beauties. And I enjoy how Aveline prefers to make criminals face justice, rather than be a classy spoiled noble maiden (she could have, based on her lineage).

Aveline's like an awesomely gorgeous superheroine who doesn't need latex costumes to save the innocent. According to Varric, all she needs is a signboard that says "DON'T" which she can hit people with. XD

I would LOVE to see someone cosplaying Aveline with this sign.

I love love love Aveline! Major props to BioWare for making a female character who is strong, capable and and not conventionally attractive. With the red hair, the badassery and the position as guard-captain, she reminded me a little of Alanna of Trebond.

My favorite conversation with her is the one after Leandra's death, when she talks about reading with her father. "Don't let anyone tell you when to move on. Take their hand and say, 'My choice.'"

Anti-gay slurs and intolerance of women who aren't Jessica Alba? You're a real charmer, you.

Yes! She's not far from how I imagined Alanna to look anyway; apart from the difference in their eyes and I imagine Alanna to have brighter hair than Aveline.

Well, crap in a hat. Hey guys, I noticed a youtube vid of an Aveline dialogue that was missing a player choice and I was all WTF. Found the issue and put in a ticket for it to be patched (yes we will be patching, Mike said I could say that, no I don't know the date). It’s not a plot breaker and some players do see it, so I don’t know where it falls in priority. It's not even that noticeable it's missing unless you're me, I suppose, but it's a bonding moment I really liked so here’s the workaround for the meantime. Maybe OP can pin my shame to the first post:

Plot: The Captain's Condolences

Issue: This plot has one conversation. For some parties, 1 player choice is missing. I set a dialogue option to the “Follower” choice icon to call attention to it, but this has a built-in scripting check to see if that follower is in the party. Normally that would be critical, but in this instance it’s a home-base conversation with Aveline, so it removes the option unnecessarily if she’s not “in your party.”

Non-spoiler workaround: When you get this plot in Act 2, just have Aveline in your active party when you go talk to her in the barracks. So for that one conversation, second choice hub:
Aveline in your party = upper left option visible. Posted Image
Aveline not in party = upper left option not visible.Posted Image

If you're not there yet, there's a party picker close by so you can do a quick swap. If you played with Aveline consistently you probably saw it as intended and chose to take the option or not. Like I said it's not a plot breaker. It's just a solid bit of content that should have been available, so, yeah, Goddammit Anders me.Posted Image

Also, I posted elsewhere on the subject of gifts and shields.

Thank you    =)    missed this

Thanks so much for this! I just got to this part, and this conversation is sooo much better when you are able to talk to Aveline about her father. I'd missed it on my other two play throughs.

I try to always have her with me: great Defender (calling her a 'tank' doesn't give her enough credit) and well developed character. I love all her interactions with Hawk and the other team members.

I was sold as soon as she jumped between the darkspawn and Weasly, laid a beat down on one with her fists then smoothly removed its vile head (with it's own sword?).

Not only do I enjoy this character, but my wife enjoys listening to her develop while I play. Thats a hard critic to win over, let me tell ya. ;)

I found out by playing and replaying the game that Aveline is one of the most well developed characters from the game. She changes a lot but remains as loving and useful in my party, every time. She's definitely one of a kind.

MTE. I never take characters in my party when I'm talking to them because I don't like having to chase them down to click on them. Which is why I missed this twice and would never have known about it if it hadn't been posted.

Hello, Aveline thread! I am rather late to the party but I would like to join the club - I completely fell in love with Aveline over the course of the game.

A teeny bit of tributary fanart~

I had an amazing endgame battle against Meredith with Aveline in my party - thanks to her immunity against stun, Aveline cheesed her to death while she was giving her ranty speeches ^_^

Also, very glad to hear that Aveline does have a story about her old dad after all - I was really frustrated that Hawke didn't want to hear about it at all!

awesome fan art! I actually used Aveline with her base equipment and managed to rarely die....

can someone tell me how to equip her good? Her stats, and some good gear?

I wanna use her as my tank...I wish we could get Donnic as a temp member...

I have a big problem with Aveline.... The game seems to me very empty without her in my team, even if I do not need a tank...  is the first time. Like her dialogues with each character. Every time I start again, I am obliged to take her ...

Aveline is by far the best character of DA2.

Alright, I am planning to start up an Aveline FanClub on DeviantArt, can anyone else here volunteer to become moderators? Also, I would need a pretty image for an icon...

I got that banter. Aveline never left my side my first play though because I played a soft and squishy mage. I wonder if her as a tank is the reason I didn't hate being a staff twirler.

Ufff... it's been such a long time since I've posted here :pinched:  Uni, the continous playing of Dragon Age 2 and some other things have kept me busy.

Anyway, moving on to the woman of the hour, Aveline. What can I say about her... she was great. Both her and Varric were the two companions I always kept by my side. They are the best and I understand why they aren't romance options now ;)

Her personal quest "The Long Road", as well as Varric taking the slavers on his own, are the most memorable moments in the entire game. The writers deserve awards just for those scenes. The quest itself was incredibly hilarious and absolutely brilliant if Hawke tries to flirt with her. It becomes a funny and sentimental love triangle where all three characters are oblivious to the situation as a whole.

I kept my promise and I didn't romance anyone on my first playthrough after Jonathan failed with Aveline. The resulting experience I got was a beautiful one. When Leandra died, Aveline came to speak with him, and their friendship blossomed.

My first playthrough of course was probably the most tragic thing in history (Bethany died, Leandra died, Hawke was alone, Bodahn and Sandal were leaving, Isabela left with the book... and then I found out that Leliana left my Warden) =)))))

After taking the whole thing into retrospect I started laughing at myself, in the sense of "wow... could things get any worse than this?"

And then Anders blew up the freaking Chantry after I tried so hard to make peace between the Mages and Templars. He's dead so... I have no comment =P

All in all, I hope to see characters like her in future BioWare games as well.

Also, Mr Lukas,

I was hurt and I loved every minute of it. Thank you ;)
