I would seriously love to find a woman like her. The line that sold me for the Aveline camp was
"Face me! I stand for all of us!"

Fortunately, I was able to mod her and give her Leliana's face, and that helped.

Aveline's like an awesomely gorgeous superheroine who doesn't need latex costumes to save the innocent. According to Varric, all she needs is a signboard that says "DON'T" which she can hit people with. XD

I would LOVE to see someone cosplaying Aveline with this sign.

My favorite conversation with her is the one after Leandra's death, when she talks about reading with her father. "Don't let anyone tell you when to move on. Take their hand and say, 'My choice.'"

Anti-gay slurs and intolerance of women who aren't Jessica Alba? You're a real charmer, you.

With the red hair, the badassery and the position as guard-captain, she reminded me a little of Alanna of Trebond.
Yes! She's not far from how I imagined Alanna to look anyway; apart from the difference in their eyes and I imagine Alanna to have brighter hair than Aveline.

Well, crap in a hat. Hey guys, I noticed a youtube vid of an Aveline dialogue that was missing a player choice and I was all WTF. Found the issue and put in a ticket for it to be patched (yes we will be patching, Mike said I could say that, no I don't know the date). It’s not a plot breaker and some players do see it, so I don’t know where it falls in priority. It's not even that noticeable it's missing unless you're me, I suppose, but it's a bonding moment I really liked so here’s the workaround for the meantime. Maybe OP can pin my shame to the first post:
Plot: The Captain's Condolences
Issue: This plot has one conversation. For some parties, 1 player choice is missing. I set a dialogue option to the “Follower” choice icon to call attention to it, but this has a built-in scripting check to see if that follower is in the party. Normally that would be critical, but in this instance it’s a home-base conversation with Aveline, so it removes the option unnecessarily if she’s not “in your party.”
Non-spoiler workaround: When you get this plot in Act 2, just have Aveline in your active party when you go talk to her in the barracks. So for that one conversation, second choice hub:
Aveline in your party = upper left option visible.
Aveline not in party = upper left option not visible.
If you're not there yet, there's a party picker close by so you can do a quick swap. If you played with Aveline consistently you probably saw it as intended and chose to take the option or not. Like I said it's not a plot breaker. It's just a solid bit of content that should have been available, so, yeah, GoddammitAndersme.
Also, I posted elsewhere on the subject of gifts and shields.
Thank you =) missed this

Thanks so much for this! I just got to this part, and this conversation is sooo much better when you are able to talk to Aveline about her father. I'd missed it on my other two play throughs.

I was sold as soon as she jumped between the darkspawn and Weasly, laid a beat down on one with her fists then smoothly removed its vile head (with it's own sword?).
Not only do I enjoy this character, but my wife enjoys listening to her develop while I play. Thats a hard critic to win over, let me tell ya.

MTE. I never take characters in my party when I'm talking to them because I don't like having to chase them down to click on them. Which is why I missed this twice and would never have known about it if it hadn't been posted.senorfuzzylips wrote...

A teeny bit of tributary fanart~

I had an amazing endgame battle against Meredith with Aveline in my party - thanks to her immunity against stun, Aveline cheesed her to death while she was giving her ranty speeches

Also, very glad to hear that Aveline does have a story about her old dad after all - I was really frustrated that Hawke didn't want to hear about it at all!

Aveline is by far the best character of DA2.

Anyway, moving on to the woman of the hour, Aveline. What can I say about her... she was great. Both her and Varric were the two companions I always kept by my side. They are the best and I understand why they aren't romance options now
Her personal quest "The Long Road", as well as Varric taking the slavers on his own, are the most memorable moments in the entire game. The writers deserve awards just for those scenes. The quest itself was incredibly hilarious and absolutely brilliant if Hawke tries to flirt with her. It becomes a funny and sentimental love triangle where all three characters are oblivious to the situation as a whole.
I kept my promise and I didn't romance anyone on my first playthrough after Jonathan failed with Aveline. The resulting experience I got was a beautiful one. When Leandra died, Aveline came to speak with him, and their friendship blossomed.
My first playthrough of course was probably the most tragic thing in history (Bethany died, Leandra died, Hawke was alone, Bodahn and Sandal were leaving, Isabela left with the book... and then I found out that Leliana left my Warden) =)))))
After taking the whole thing into retrospect I started laughing at myself, in the sense of "wow... could things get any worse than this?"
And then Anders blew up the freaking Chantry after I tried so hard to make peace between the Mages and Templars. He's dead so... I have no comment =P
All in all, I hope to see characters like her in future BioWare games as well.
Also, Mr Lukas,
I was hurt and I loved every minute of it. Thank you
