I must throw my support in for Aveline. She is, in my opinion one of the best companions (story and character wise) I see in Dragon Age.

She captures you from the first moment you met her in Lothering. I felt more sad for him and Wesley instead of my b*tching sister. (On DA 2 demo with my mage)

She is my solid friend on all runs and I am kinda glad she ain't LI otherwise we couldn't have most fun quest of DA 2, Long Road.

I can't recall even one instance where Bethany b*tches? Well, maybe in a particular development after the Deep Roads, but in the beginning?

Gah, my game bugged and I'm not getting the Questioning beliefs scene even though I reached full Rivalry with Aveline. I was so looking forward to that scene after reading the previous page of this thread.

Well, not sure. The one where Anders argues with Aveline that guards is just a branch of the templars triggered when Aveline was in the party, and the one where Anders talks about Blackmarsh with Varric still triggers, if Anders is in the party. Same goes for some of the others.

Which dialogue is it, though? I'm assuming it's in Act 3?

Her fist line in the game, blaming your brother, who just survived onslaught on Ostagar for being late is b*tching in my book: I wanted to slap her real hard at that moment. (It is worse for warrior/rogues as she blames both of you )

Because I dumped Anders from my party after he murdered a girl in Act 2 and he said he was leaving Kirkwall. Pretty sure he wasn't supposed to be buddying around with Varric after that, and my PC and he would have done more than nod at one another as they passed.

The scene with Isabela happens during Aveline's final Questioning Beliefs.

I just finished my first playthrough as a female rogue who generally did good deeds good but took the sarcastic route, and I have to say that I was more than pleasantly surprised by Aveline. I was expecting her to be a dour party-pooper but I found myself really liking the character and she only left my party when I was doing Fenris's personal quests. By the end of the game it really felt like she was a firm friend of my Hawke that would stick with her through thick and thin. When I read the Rock Paper Scissors article the other week I found myself wondering if the author was playing a different game to me (for more than just that reason, actually...)

Just wanted to jump in this thread to show some Aveline love. Luke, you did an amazing job with her. I found her to be an entirely believable character, and she had the perfect balance of toughness and vulnerability. She felt *real*, and if a writer can accomplish that, I say that's a success.

Actually, we were never even given Wesley's last name either. And it seems as though Leandra never took the name Hawke. Perhaps women don't take their husbands' names by convention?

Started a new Hawke last night. I love Avaline in the first smuggler-q for the female elf when you first get to Kirkwall. When you can ask her to step up and get the money from the cheating merchant. " Only because this toad deserve it". Ahh... she is so awesome when she threatens him and she has such a nice stance. This is before she is all covered up in armor =) never tried to rival her because she's pretty much my Hawkes best friend. I wish I could get the scene with Avaline and Izzy =) never seen that one before.

It's his last name.

Possibly doesn't have one. Most people in Ferelden don't.
