I was tempted to try and romance Aveline my first time through. Matron Hawke would have approved of her as a daughter in law I think

I love Aveline. At first, I mistakenly thought she was a little bland and only appreciated her for being an uncommon female tank. Then I realized, Aveline is freaking fierce, man. Fierce! It would have been cool to romance her. Also, adorably awkward.

Ahhh yes I can see it now....Garret pushing a stand of hair behind her ear calling her his bulbous cherub and then being whisked away in her arms.
Not trying to joke on that but if she was an LI I think my hawke would glady be the sub in that relationship. Sadly he now cries into a tankard singing Hall and Oats song over his love for her before, during and after her wedding to Donnic.

Not to be stereotypical (or make light of gender dynamics) but Aveline definitely seems like the type who would wear the pants in the relationship. That and her and my Sarcastic!Hawke have a bit of a personality clash. Make great friends, but she's probably kill me if she ever married him.

Oh yeah no doubt. In fact, I actually found Aveline to be the most attractive female, both physically and personality wise.

I'd go as far to say that even though we're limited to just having a friendship with her, it's still better developed than the other romances just because how much of a foil Aveline can play to the different personality types we can make for Hawke.

Aveline is Samara all over again.

Aveline is undoubtedly a strong woman, both physically and psychologically. But depending on what you mean by "wears the pants in the relationship" - I mean, personally, I don't think Aveline would be interested in a boy toy (or girl toy, whatever). I can only see Aveline wanting an equal relationship. Sure, she's Donnic's superior, but he's still a strong soldier and I don't think she would want to simply be in control. She and her late husband fought together as equals (so it seemed) - I  think that would be the kind of relationship Aveline would want.

A character like Isabela, I think, would (ironically) "wear the pants in the relationship".

What does Aveline say about Wesley's death if Hawke was the one who killed him? She brings it up during her Act 2 (maybe 3?) Questioning Beliefs quest, I think. I always had her do it, so I'm curious.

Hawke will ask Aveline if she blames him/her, and she admits that she despite knowing Hawke did the right thing, she kind of does.

So quiet these days are the Aveline fans. Despair ye Dragon Age fans. Morrigan romancers were left hanging! Why do I dare hope the game developers will make Aveline a romanceable character?
