Women don't have to be conventionally attractive to be good characters. In most fiction, having all the major female characters be 'hot' is an unrealistic and shallow choice.

Of course, as far as fiction is concerned there's the Hollywood Homely effect.

I'm incapable of going to TV Tropes and looking at just one thing. I always get sucked in for at least and hour.

Pretty sure it has to enter your bloodstream. While I wouldn't recommend punching a hurlock barefisted I'm sure Aveline will be fine as long as it doesn't bite her hard enough to penetrate her skin.

I suspect if the taint ever entered Aveline's bloodstream, that would wind up with her immune system purging it both from her bloodstream and from the darkspawn's.

I think the design looks terrible frankly, especially the concept art. Nothing unique about it at all, on any level, and it's just not good design either. The story of her character is pretty cliche and tired as well, nothing interesting there that I can see.
Just not feeling it.

I agree.  I'm also quite confused about her outfit.  If she's supposed to be a tank, shouldn't she be wearing massive plate or at least heavy armor to start?  I read in a post awhile back that she does upgrade her armor in some fashion which would be quite necessary; as of right now she looks like a blacksmith who just threw on some leather drabs.  I'm not worried though, modding will allow people to alter her appearance to however they see fit; the true test will be in her voice actress.  In my opinion, a companion's voice is much more important than their looks, hopefully she won't disappoint  in that regard.  She hasn't wavered my concerns about this game however; the massive line up of sihlouettes behind Hawke only make me want more.  WTB more companion reveals!

The Darkspawn are coming! We have to get out of here!!
Just a second, help me put on my plate armor, I'm a warrior you know!

More likely:

The Darkspawn are coming! We have to get out of here!!
/Aveline grabs shield, hauls ass out of there

Aveline's majestic deltoids managed to help me convince a friend to try Origins. Actually I think the deltoids did it all by themselves.

IIRC the conversation went something like:
Me: Hey look, fun new concept art appeared on the internet! /throws art
Friend: ...lady muscles.
Me: Yes they are.
Friend: LADY MUSCLES.
Me: They say they're modeled after men's arms!
Friend: WHAT GAME IS THIS? Necessary reaction gif.

It's not like everyone in Lothering didn't know the darkspawn was coming days in advance, though.

So, how long do you think it'll take for Hawke to change his armour?

The in game shots of Aveline looks fine.

But did Aveline live in Lothering before encountering the Hawkes in the blightlands?

Oh cut it out Shorts, if that was an issue then we should not be able to change any equipment during combat or "drop disguises" in the blink of an eye like it happened in origins. The real point here is that we yet do NOT know if she will be wearing sensible armor at all during later chapters. And no...no dev said she will they only implied she will change appearanceand not that she will wear appropriate armor.

makes sense she would have no armor fleeing lothering, so she could run faster.

"Appropriate." This is a fixed concept then? Meh.

I couldn't care less about the "accuracy" or "appropriateness" or "sensibleness" of outfits. They're fixed, mostly. Once that decision was announced I've only cared if they look cool, and coolness is the definition of subjective. Within the narrative I'm willing to accept the idea that what Hawke and his party wear early in the game is subject to change for obvious contextual reasons. Beyond that, I don't really know or care, beyond hoping that I personally think the outfits look cool, and aren't patronizing like Miranda or Jack.

Contrary to Hollywood belief you stand a fair chance of splitting your knuckles if you repeatedly use your fist to strike something hard like that.

Especially given the fact that is basically a skull surrounded by toughened leather (I think).

To be honest, considering how rarely the devs comment on such matters and that Luke was replying in regards to exactly the 'inappropriate armor' issue I really think it's a stretch not to think she'll wear heavier armor later on. There is no guarantee she will wear full massive armor, but I think it's very unlikely he commented because she'll be switching to a flowery dress around the half way point.

Obviously we don't know for sure, but thats what optimism is for?

In regards to why she isn't wearing it in the first place: In the demo it is explained that Wesley was on his way to Denerim and took a detour to save Aveline, who was in Lothering, when he heard about the invasion. Basically Aveline isn't presented as a warrior, and only fights with you after Wesley is injured. She takes up his Sword and shield after that. Aveline is quite obviously a 'civilian' in the same sense as Carver or Mama Hawke.

Considering we can't take the Kirkwall scenes as final representations yet, and considering that in some of them Hawke is even wearing Commoner clothing, I wouldn't jump to any conclusions about it not making sense. I'm expecting her change of clothes to come after the first major time jump or thereabouts, where she takes up her new life defending her 'adopted home' (after all, she has to have been there a while to consider it a home).

The chin thing seems to be an unfortunate side-effect of the new head morph. I really wish something would be done to correct this problem. It seems to be unintentional, but I have an issue with the mouth and jaw on the morphs. And the buggy-ness of the eyes.

Old builds. I'm sure they'll fix the eyes at any rate.

Having played Awakening and Origins, I wouldn't bet on the chins being entirely bug related.

Yes, much like Judge Dredd and Desperate Dan*.

*Who, I might add, can lift a cow using only one arm.
