aveline looks good in her new armor, at 01:54

Good job pointing that out, here it is spot shadowed:

Okay, this is VERY pleasing to me. While blurry, Aveline's armor looks good, practical and solid. I'm really hoping that the shoulders aren't all spikey like the other armors we've seen. Hawke's armor has no spikes and no fur, which pleases me greatly, although that might not be meaninful since this Hawke is a rogue. Still, this is a lot better than what we've seen so far. I'm just going to pretend I'm not seeing that damn dialogue wheel and go away happy. ;)

Do we know for sure if her armour is templar armour or not? It certainly looks similar to the templar armour we see in the Rise to Power video. I love how it looks as well, by the way, less spiky bits is always a good thing :)

Though, on closer inspection, that's a dragon motif not a flaming sword motif on the breastplate.

it would be interesting if Aveline takes up the mantle of her husband and becomes a Templar herself.

which would make her relationship with apostate mage Hawke even more interesting..........

It's the city guard armor.

Yes, some proper armor. Looks great.

Still want a non-blurry screenshot, though.

That's good to know! I thought those folks in the plaid shirts that Isabella and Hawke were fighting were city guards, and that was just sad. Edit: Well, more like tweed, actually.

That would make sense, not sure why I was thinking it looked like the templar gear.

Though I don't really like the Carth Syndrome, I have a feeling I am going to actually like this character.

Bioware excels at characterization and dialogue though. It's largely most everything else that has me a bit disappointed.

Indeed! I'm concerned about those shoulders--I'd like to know for sure they aren't spikey.

I think I'm good as long as Aveline doesn't go on and on about how amazing her husband was.

I dunno,, I don't want a Jahiera moment where she gets over her husband's death like he was a pet hamster, or goldfish or something (though, not Boo, of course.)

I mean, I know us main characters are just so god damned awesome, but come on.

It's a tough balance. I mean, you don't want companions to suffer forever--especially in a game over a long time period, but they shouldn't come off as though their relationship lacked meaning, either. And since all players will probably draw those lines in different places, it's not easy. Add romance into the mix (which may or may not occur) and it gets even more difficult. They'll have a better shot at it here than in many games with the ten year span. I really wish they'd dial back the level of 'awesome' on the PCs. It was one of the very few things that I found mildly irritating in Origins. I hated being thanked as though I was by myself, for instance. It was a bit much and I doubt it will be any less in DA2.

SPOILERS.

Wish they had an *actual* spoiler tag here.

As I understand it, as soon as you enter Kirkwall, the narrative skips forward a year. Aveline has joined the city guards while the Hawke family is struggling to make it in Lowtown.

So, when you really get to interact with Aveline, Westley has already been dead for a year, she's gotten to know the Hawkes, and begun a semi-stable existence.

I see this as being a bit different than Jaheria finding her husband dead and then falling in love with you in a matter of months.

END SPOILER

Not everyone has the same definitions or hang ups about death.  I didn't see it as out of character for someone attune and comfortable with natural law, and who tried to live in balance with it (a druid in other words) to be able to come to terms with it in a relatively short period of time.

Finally, a true female warrior! I've been wanting one in the party ever since the unfortunate incident in Awakening. Poor Mhairi. *tear*

Dear BioWare devs, how about a snip of information about our red-haired amazon?

Going by the picture of her in the massive armor, it is a definite improvement, still not sure bout the 80's headband or the mullet on her, Only solid Snake can pull off the bandana/mullet combo

I dig the headband. Not seeing the 80's in there at all. And I don't see a mullet either.

~edit~

I don't think this has been posted here previously. It's a shot of Fem Hawke with Westley and Aveline in the background.
