There are such creatures as feminine women, who, if crossed would have no problem drop kicking you to the moon. They may even flirt and giggle sometimes (but would likely cringe at the words rather it a laugh and being seductive. Still, they are also the women who can sit down for a beer, joke with the men without always taking offence, and still be feminine.
I love having a wide selection of character types to spend my time with. EVEN taking into consideration the types of characters I enjoyed before. Kind of like: I had fun with Zevran, but I don't want another carbon copy Zevran.
It is kind of like the thread a while ago about Cassandra and her short hair. I personally liked the look, and the character ( from what I saw of it) - Having narrow roles limits things, to me, personally. To each their own though. I love it when the writers come up with something no-body expects, even characters that don't necessarily accept or even LIKE you. It keeps things interesting.
Aveline reminds me of what I imagine a Norse goddess to be like if human.

This.
It's such a simple thing to become overly attached to particular types of characters/companions in RPGs. However, what sets BioWare apart from all the other developers who either create or have created RPGs is that they always *do* try something new with not only thier stories but the character through which elements of the story, or even the story as a whole, are experienced.
In Origins we recieved the Witch with the massive chip on her soulder and an almost Shakespearean tradegy brewing in the wings. Also there was Leliana, seemingly the embodiment of gentle grace and charm mixed with quite a bit of Valley Girl and a dab of psychological instability (nothing wrong with just a *little* bit of crazy.-Laughs-Eyelashes indeed.) But, both of these character resided on completely opposite ends of the spectrum and, again, this is where BioWare excells. Giving us companions and LIs who sometimes make us reconsider what draws us to people and how we, in turn, are altered by that if at all.
Aveline would appear to be as distant from the aforementioned previous LIs as possible...though there may be some small measure of Leliana's desire to do good, however tempered by an almost Loghain like determination to see no one else hurt by Darkspawn or any other evil in the world. We know so little about her, yet of the female companions revealed thus far she is the most compelling. If she does prove to be a LI (I hope) I have the feeling Luke is going to make us work for that relationship. On a side note, I can't help but see Aveline as more akin to a Celtic Warrior Queen then something out of Norse Mythology. Maybe it's the lack of things like a Brunhilda vibe, blond hair, and thick pig-tails.
