I just read that quote then came here to see what people's impressions of that would be.   :)  Both ways could be done with the story really. She stays loyal to Wesley or she takes her time mourning and eventually falls into love with someone else over the years.

One thing I *do* know, is that it is nice to see that the writers seem to genuinely like Aveline.  I can't wait to get into the game and "meet" her.

Her husband wouldn't of died, if she just had of stayed in the kitchen.

He's the one who died. Maybe he should have learned to cook.  :P (Sorry Aveline lol)

So in the new interview, Aveline is mentioned as a favourite (of the ones he can speak of) of David Gaider:

GZ: How about you shoot me your favorite character from Dragon Age II that you can speak of and why any of the side-stories that particularly should be revealed.
David Gaider: Aveline was a bit of a surprise, really. When we first started off, she filled this fighter slot and initially we didn’t know what to do with her. She very quickly grew. It’s one of those situations where if you have a group of writers and they’re all talking and throwing around ideas, eventually you can stumble upon something that gets everybody very excited. Luke Kristjanson wrote her. He’s been working here for a while. He wrote Minsc. He’s been with us since the very beginning. He’s a great writer. He took her and gave her this strong, sisterly vibe and it was really cleverly done and I’m really, really happy with how it’s turned out. A lot of times, it’s very easy for characters to fall into a mode. Sometimes you don’t even intend that. You start writing them in a certain way and then very quickly you find yourself following this familiar path with them. If you see it soon enough you can pull yourself out of it, or sometimes if you don’t go far enough people say, “Well, that’s an archetype.” Sometimes that happens. I think with Aveline, we actually got a nice, solid, strong female character that is neither bit-c-hy nor overtly sexual. I really like where Luke took her. I don’t think people have seen anything like her.

I think I am really going to like Aveline.  She sounds like just about everything I've asked for when it comes to a female npc.  I just hope Bioware doesn't drop the ball.

Oh ho! Excellent joke, but I think the word you're looking for is 'have', not 'of'. And it should have been 'if she had just stayed in the kitchen'. Just a heads up for the next time you decide to grace these boards with your scintillating wit.

On topic: I like Aveline more with each scrap of information we get. She seems like such a well-rounded character- I think she's fast becoming my favourite out of the companions.

I suspect she'll end up the Jindo Bolee of the game: an excellent character that never gets as much mindspace as others.

Well, HK-47 kinda stole the show in that game, so that kinda happened to everyone.

Those two bits sell her for me. Anything that comes off the writer of Minsc has to be good. Byway of Minsc.

Yes, that's the way I see it too. It can basically boil down to those situations based on the choices you make. For comparison, I would refer to the Tali romance in ME2, in which your Shepard had the option of letting the romance go because he feared for her health (even though he had strong feelings). This option was on the Paragon side, and I almost pressed it without realising it :P

Such a thing can be applied here, if Aveline admits of not being able to fully let Wesley go. Hawke could either choose to make an honorable move of leaving her alone...

or not

Also, @ Mr. Lukas:

Mr. Gaider has spoken highly of your work with Aveline during the interview. My expectations for the character have grown and I'm very curious as to how you approached her ;)

It isn't necessarily an "honorable" or "selfish" thing, I'd say it's more of a... grey area.

Sometimes it's better to let go of someone and let somebody else in. It's called moving on:blush:

This.

Even if she isn't a LI, I would like to atleast be able to help her in this manner.

The funny thing is I've been so sure she'd be an LI, but come to think about it harder, Merrill is too cute not to be an LI, Isabela IS, and I think the unannounced/undisclosed male companion is the bisexual option. I think one non-blood-related companion would have to simply be uninterested in romance.

That may very well be Varric. Vael doesn't count.

Unless males get Aveline and females get Varric, and that would make it even.
Well... minus one half anyways.

*For female PC's the LI's would be Fenris, unannounced/undisclosed male bisexual, Isabela (female bisexual) and Varric.

To be fair and even it would have to be 2 hetero's and 2 bi's. Or 1 hetero and 2 bi's.

I know numbers differ pretty much when it comes to male/female players, but as a completionist I always try or do anything and everything, including playing with a female PC. And I know, that's pretty much a minority.

I dont see it as honorable to not get involved with somebody just because she's upset she lost her husband. Things like that happen sometimes, its life, its sad but you get over it, you have to. If anything, you'd be doing her a favor by helping her move on, particularly since Hawke is such a huge upgrade over the other fellow :) .

Indeed. When you come to analyze it to some extent, confusion can appear anywhere. And it's going to depend very much on the formula BioWare used when they made the game.

On one side, we could look at the ME2 formula where theoretically speaking, every female companion was a LI (except for Kasumi who is a DLC character). I'm also going to count Samara in because the trilogy is not yet over. After all, Tali wasn't one in ME1 but she became in ME2, so anything can happen there. On the male companions, as exceptions we had Grunt, Mordin and Legion (who in their own right, would be impossible as LIs) and Zaeed (again, a DLC companion)

On the other side, we can expect the same formula used in DA:O, where we had 2 for each gender and 2 for both genders.

Aveline          Varric                                    Not counting:  Bethany/Carver & Sebastian (DLC companion)
Isabela(B)     Fenris(B)
Merril            ''Anders''

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I really believe that the unnanounced companion is indeed Anders (my own oppinion ofc untill BioWare proves me wrong). If indeed that will be the case, yes I believe he will be a LI, but I still think that Fenris will be the bisexual option. We'll see.
Regarding Varric, it's really hard to say. First of all, he is the storyteler. Also, I remember seeing a number of posts by Mr. Gaider that he isn't such a great fan of dwarf romances, so anything can happen here. But must we take everything written by BioWare as 100% truth? Not really considering a few times when Mr. Priestly would play with our little minds :innocent:
Isabela is confirmed, and we have the little women Aveline and Merril, who both have the potential of being LIs. BioWare has asked people on repeated accounts not to get our hopes up about every companion to be romance options, so again, anything can happen.

Unless of course there is new formula in the works. We'll see.

Sorry for the wall of text :)

I will continue to hold out hope of the Aveline romance until Bioware tells me otherwise!
