While I'm personally doubting the love interest-hood of Aveline, it's entirely possible that it'll happen considering how every revealed companion character can be considered attractive and it's hard to pinpoint at who is considered love-interest material.

Hell, right now I wouldn't be surprised if every one of them could be a love interest (except for Seb?). It would be rather creepy though how everybody would be dry humping Hawke, though they almost did it in Mass Effect 2 with almost everybody wanting to sleep with you (GRUNT ROMANCE FOR ME3).

Remember how shallow friendships felt because of that? How little conversation you had with Garrus as a male buddy?

Indeed...I like Thane for that reason alone...you actually TALK to him, regardless of gender. I thought that was brillient, just keep in mind however this is a different studio...so the brillient minds of Dragon Age might be able to the impossible. If not, well at least they TALK to us! the ME devs are just like every other developer and pretend we don't exist!

Yeah I liked the balance of characters who were LIs vs friends in DAO. I hope that is kept.

The relationship stuff in DA:O ( and I mean friendships and sexual) as compared to ME2:  big difference.  In my opinion, DA:O writing of the relationships, dialogue etc was much better.   Aside from Jack and Thane, I never really did get to feel like I knew my companions much.  Oh I liked several, Mordin and Legion made me laugh! Jacob made me slowly back out of the room stammering about leaving the stove on, etc.  But in terms of the illusion of real conversation, DA:O did it best.  (to me)   Almost like ME2 was a shooter with a story & relationship layers and DAO was more a fable with all the pieces equally important ( if you chose them to be)

I wonder about Varric though.   He *is* telling the tale.

I am undecided about Aveline. I do know I am pretty sure she will be one of my favorites, regardless.

Given what we've just heard in Gaider's recent interview about the way Aveline is written, I'm seriously doubting she's romanceable. To wit:

Luke Kristjanson wrote her. [...] He took her and gave her this strong, sisterly vibe [...] I think with Aveline, we actually got a nice, solid, strong female character that is neither ****y nor overtly sexual.

So... it sounds great (especially the stuff I omitted, which is just raving about how great Kristjanson is and that he wrote Minsc), but "sisterly ... not overtly sexual" doesn't scream LI to me.

I think "overtly sexual" would be Zeveran or Isabella. Alistair wasn't overtly sexual but he was romanceable, I also thought of him as a brotherly figure as a male character...so really this changes nothing to me.

Same here. I really think they are playing with our minds, only they are taking a more subtle approach this time instead of sending someone to crush our hopes :)
Their weapons are growing more sofisticated with every game :P

I have to say this here: I made a reference to Gaider as "David the Black" in a DAO module I'm writing. There's a reason he's called Darth Gaider by some. ;p

Still, I'm really wondering whether or not Aveline is a love interest. I'm glad that she's not overty sexual, but it makes it hard to tell whether she gets a "romance" subplot.

New tagline for the duo:

"Zevran and Isabella: covert operations meet overt sexuality"

Given it's a forum where people were asking if they can romance their own sister, i don't think the sisterly bit is going to put doubt in their minds.

Laidlaw already stated not everyone will be romantically interested in Hawke. Thankfully.

Yes...however I'm hoping Merrill isn't a romance because the elven romance is such a burnt cliche I'm rather sick to death of. Bioware has proven they don't ALWAYS follow the cliche pathways. Besides we had an elf LI last time so as far as I'm concered that don't mean we'll have another one.

It's nice that you capslocked 'always' , because sincerely Isabela strikes me as cliche, mostly because she reminds me a lot of Miranda. Granted the story is different (and I'm reffering to something without knowing the bigger picture), but her body and the fact that they use her in every trailer is identical to the way they used Miranda as advertisement for ME2.

I personally would have swapped Isabela for Merril, but that's my own oppinion ;)

As opposed to what, human romance which rarely ever happens?

IMO, think she might be a LI ONLY based on some choices you make through the game

Okay, these two posts are shallow as all hell. I wasn't expecting that from Aveline fans.

How is Merrill a clichè? Do you know anything about her personality? Her romance path? Aside from tidbits and speculation, no you don't, sir. But I suppose she's clichèd by mere virtue of being an elf. This makes Aveline a clichè as well, because she's human, and humans (and human romances) have been done to death.

And Isabela=Miranda? Really? Just because they're both quite well-endowed? By that same logic, every busty advertisement babe ever is the exact same character. You heard that right. They're all identical. Just because they're hot chicks used to advertise something.

Think before you post, fellas.

Granted and well put. Sometimes fans can react without thinking when opposition exists regarding things they are passionate about (you should see the conflicts that appear in my country from simple soccer matches). Like I have mentioned before, I don't know Isabela's story and I'm mostly using my eyes than my mind. And like any BioWare character, there is more to them than meets the eye.

If anything, Isabela would be more like Zevran.

And Shepard Lives... come on bud, admit it. You're biased. You love elves. Remember the "Give us a female elf romance thread?

Good times.
I've recently reached the conclusion that I don't give half a spit what race the NPCs/LIs are as long as they're interesting characters.
