Ok a serious answer now. I really don't think it's that important whether Bioware showcases a male or famale lead in their games. I think it's should be their choice which gender they choose to showcase in trailers and such. I mean when the games come out It doesn't(or at least it shouldn't) matter how Bioware chose to advertise their product.yhibiki wrote...

I would personally not like a game as much if the main character was canonically a female, since I would not be able to immerse myself in the story as much. I dunno, I'm just inflexible, I guess.
"You know, wouldn't it be cool to hear what Fem Hawke sounds like, or see some concept art of her?"
"ARGH FEMINISM everyone hide."
We're not asking that the maleHawke in the advertising be replaced with a woman, just that he be joined by one to some degree, and for bioware to consider sometimes showcasing female protagonists in future games.
Why is that so threatening?

Reason and rationality are frightening, apparently. To be fair though, it is only a handful who seem threatened, not the majority. Maybe this means someday before launch we'll at least see a screenshot of the female Hawke.
And thank you, Mr. Epler for not being threatened by reason and rationality.

advertisement DOES matter though, because it sells a product - that's universal, no matter the product.C9316 wrote...

if you think about clothing stores that sells both men's and women's clothing, you'll notice they have models for both genders as well as commericials and ads that feature the product for each gender - because outside of being able to try a product out, that's how you know what is it, how much it is and when/where it is availeble. Not to say that a woman can't wear men's clothing or vice versa, but the object was made with a specific intent in mind. if it happens to have another purpose, so be it because a company's goal is to make profits.
same with the gaming world, with Bioware being one of the few "stores" willing to market to females. And they are doing a great job - but I'm willing to bet that with a little more effort in campaigning to women they could get a lot more of a response. It wasn't teenage boys playing action/fps/adventure games that made the Wii a huge success, afterall. Of course, the DA team already has plans in motion and with a deadline upcoming in a few monthes, I think it would be hard press to deviate from it, but like the OP said, it's something that they should *really* consider for future installments, such as DA3 and beyond.
though i still stand by my own request of wanting to see potential male LIs for us fangirls

It's an outdated way of thinking that still tends to be enforced. Such outdated ways of thinking tend to limit any creative progression in many things.
The request is reasonable, we've seen the default male Hawke, now let's see a default female Hawke get some of the lime light.
Maybe if we're lucky such an approach might make other developers grow up and stop being so backwards in terms of constantly relying on the same old generic male lead, and instead deciding to cater to both the female and male gamer demographics by having gender choice more often, having the marketing attract both the female and male gamers.
It would be the kick in the backside that the gaming industry needs. Developers and publishers want money, well the female demographic of gamers would be happy to pay money for games as long as they at least get something to buy that isn't so strongly male focused, but instead catered to both female and male gamers alike.
And gaming needs to progress before it gets stuck in a rut due to a lack of progression.
Change is a good thing in the long run.

What's really confusing is the conflict; I mean I would understand if the issue was over introducing another gender (either male or female) in a game that only supported one or the other, and then debating whether or not that would lead to a loss of content, but when we have the feature anyway, what's the issue?
Though in fairness, from a marketing standpoint, if you're going to feature more than one build of a main character, then your trailers have to advertise customizability over other features of the game, like the Fable trailers.
Still, given that we are not talking TV spots for mass appeal, but rather gaming website tralers, male Hawke CGI trailer and male/female Hawke gameplay videos aren't really a major deal? I mean, wouldn't that seem like a reasonable compromise for everyone? Put aside changing the entire industry standard with investing in equal opportunity CGI, but have the gameplay footage at least feature both PCs?

Precisely. We haven't even SEEN female Hawke. Personally, I could care less about the CGI; I expect it will have little to no bearing on actual gameplay.
