Me too, there's a culture of that here. They both stem from the same idea though I think: women are somehow inferior and therefore men should not show any 'female qualities'. So both genders end up suffering.tybbiesniffer wrote...

Same the other way round and so on, both sides work together as a greater whole to get the job done.

But I haf the intellects.............But you make a good point, which has been used before, such an example would be the love magic in The Fionavar Tapestry, by Guy Gavriel Kay

Yes, but what does this have to do with Hawke being a dude?ReinaHW wrote...

Maybe leading into a female and male Hawke working together ina CGI trailer to show how cool they are?

I wonder if the armour for the female Hawke, and any female companions who join you in the story, will be somewhat better this time round.
If any concept art of the female Hawke is shown, then here's hoping that the armour looks a lot better.
Unless it's going to go the cheerleader route - 'ra ra, gimme me a K, gimme me an I, gimme two LL's, let's kill us some bad guys!'
Oh the horror.
Showing the female and male Hawke working together would be fun, but it might give a misleading view for those who want every game to be multi player only and co-op heavy.

Yes please! Some equal representation would be cool, not just the equality bit, but to show the game's customisation. You know, the "create-your-own-hero" thing.

Lol, just kidding ladies
Now first off, don't go expecting a CGI trailer like the one just released to showcase a female Hawke. That stuff costs a ton of $$$ and their prob gonna want a single face to associate with the CGI trailers. And of course their gonna want that single face to be a white sexy but bad ass guy to best please the target audience.
BUT I do think it's silly we didn't see any of female shep in the gameplay trailers. Hopefully they won't do the same with female hawke. They need to make it clear there's character customization and a chance to play as either sex.

I can't comment on anything else in this thread (because I really don't have the relevant information on any of it!), but I can tell you that on the Cinematic Design team, at least, we're splitting our time about 50/50 between using the Male Hawke and the Female Hawke for iteration. This is to ensure that, in conversation, Female Hawke doesn't end up looking like Male Hawke but with a different model.
Sadly, the fem****s probably will find a way to make this a bad thing as well.
"Only 50%?"
Honestly, I don't see a desire for more female-focused attention in development to be an unreasonable request. And this thread has been very reasonable and quite pleasant, really.
It's easy to forget that, for a lot of the population, there's a sizable portion of entertainment that doesn't really take them into consideration. And attempting to ensure that this not be the case is not what I'd classify as something I take umbrage at. If anything, it's good to be reminded that there are all sorts of people who enjoy the work you put out, and who would enjoy it more if you took a little extra time to make it more appealing to them.
Wow. If I went that way, I'd be in love.

Yes. They should also show off in CGI trailers how you'll be able to do things like loot, and talk to people! I know they don't sound very exciting, but just have everything he picks up/talks to randomly explode. That'll work.

I concure........but......since this is a fantasy thing and not say....real life....I like the 'nicer' 'femy-er' war cloths and slightly sexy very femy armor. *sigh* yeah I know I'm one of those girls
Wait until the game comes out and the inevitable 23428423894 armor mods that look like they're made of two bandaids and a piece of string come out. I want the vanilla game to have practical, nice looking, armor for women that isn't exposed.

lol not really... they have a certain budget and then have to decide the most effective way to allocate said budget. In this process, they have to omit a lot of things they would like to do and have to settle on doing only the things that they think will be the most effective.
If we were talking GCI, sure. But a gameplay video? That involves nothing more than display a particul part of the game. Seriously, like one video on IGN or Gamespot with female Hawke in dialogue and/or combat and you've put the whole issue to rest.

...What the hell?
Now this is wrong in the opposite direction. If we're talking about eliminating gender restrictions, that's one thing. Typecasting is quite another, particularly when you're being stereotypical doing it.

Adding my thanks too as another fem gamer, it's nice to hear this instead of saying we are whining or the minority
To the ones that think not as many females play are they really looking at how many post in these forums? I see a lot of female gamers here and there is also a lot of them that mod. I've been playing games for years from arcades to computers, consoles and even paper RPG. Times have changed so deal with it and stop thinking gaming is a testosterone dominated area.

Dear Bioware,
I am a female gamer, and I love the fact that I can play a female character in your games. I especially love Dragon Age and the Dragon Age franchise.
I know you already have a male Hawke set up for your Dragon Age 2 trailers, but in the future, would you please consider showcasing a female hero for future Dragon Age games? I would appreciate it so much, and I'm sure other female nerds such as myself who love your games would be just as thrilled and appreciative.
Thank you!

This. Thank you John.
And I'll add this:
Dragon Age was the first game I've played where I actually felt like I could roleplay as an actual female character (unlike a Fallout 3/Oblivion where character gender selection feel hollow because it makes no real difference outside appearance.) Bioware deserves high praise for spending the time and money creating that possibility. My great experience with DA:O got me to buy Mass Effect 1 & 2, so in my case anyway that time and effort spent helped your bottom line.
It would be nice to see the female character options in ads or trailers or somewhere
Perhaps a little ad space would attract even more of women like me who simply don't realize the option Bioware spent all of that effort and $$ on is there.
It's late/early so I hope that made sense.
