In the Sacred Ashes trailer, Lelianna and Morrigan kicked way more butt than the male character or the other character (was it Sten?) that was featured. It was Lelianna and Morrigan that made that trailer rock.

Morrigan pretty much floored the dragon on her own. Then the Warden stole her kill. Very rude if you ask me.

Maybe not a trailer, but it would be nice to have artwork with the default female Hawke the same day as the trailer. Do you guys at Bioware even have your default female Hawke done yet?

I can't comment on anything else in this thread (because I really don't have the relevant information on any of it!), but I can tell you that on the Cinematic Design team, at least, we're splitting our time about 50/50 between using the Male Hawke and the Female Hawke for iteration. This is to ensure that, in conversation, Female Hawke doesn't end up looking like Male Hawke but with a different model.

Sadly, the fem****s probably will find a way to make this a bad thing as well.
"Only 50%?"

Honestly, I don't see a desire for more female-focused attention in development to be an unreasonable request. And this thread has been very reasonable and quite pleasant, really.

It's easy to forget that, for a lot of the population, there's a sizable portion of entertainment that doesn't really take them into consideration. And attempting to ensure that this not be the case is not what I'd classify as something I take umbrage at. If anything, it's good to be reminded that there are all sorts of people who enjoy the work you put out, and who would enjoy it more if you took a little extra time to make it more appealing to them.

Sooo ... care for some of my homemade cookies?   Lasagna?  Chicken?  I make a mean stir fry!

I don't know, I make some pretty spectacular white chocolate macademia nut cookies. And I am oft-referred to as the 'Stir-fry king'. Well, the latter is mostly me referring to myself, but still.

And the Mr. Epler business! It makes me feel old. I'm only 25!

The stress of these forums make you look older. I apologize.

Hmmm, although I feel sympathy for you op, I dont see a female lead in the trailers happening any time soon. Female gamers are the minority and a female lead in a trailer would put a lot of male gamers off.

Given the long and proud history Bioware has of making kickass, strong female characters in their games, this is such an obvious and well overdue move to make. I'd far prefer it to some dumb tank of a guy being the lead.

Really? Because most people around here prefer playing females--oh, and around 40% of gamers are girls.

These are misconceptions that continue because no one bothers to think about change. They risk so much else in marketing, why not just one trailer?

Honestly, if I got some concept art, or saw a bit of the LIs, or heard her voice, I'd settle for that. A trailer would just be fantastic.

I really doubt that. I think if done right, a female lead would make male gamers want to play it just as much as female gamers, especially if having the option to choose your gender, like Dragon Age gives us. Tomb Raider is a good example of how many men will buy a game to play a female character.

I just wanted to speak up and say that I would love to see a female main character incuded in the advertising. You *can* play as a female character in the game, what would be the harm in showing it?

It may be true that females make up a smaller percentage of gamers that males, but isn't it possible that the reason for this is that most games have historically been marketed only to males?

You're younger than me! How come you're working in a successful company and I'm just a doctoral student (otherwise known as the bondage serf of the academic world)?

I am female and I don't give a **** whether the main character of Dragon Age or any other game is male or female. I also don't care whether the gender of choice for marketing purposes in games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age (i.e. games where the protagonist can be both male and female) is male as long as the game itself is good.

Come to think of it - I'd prefer to drool all over sexy male Hawke swinging his polearm, casting forbidden magicks and all that jazz, rather than stare blandly at some chick.

Also, games are for fun, not for your stupid feminist crap.

Same here.  All we've seen is male Hawke.  Even the game cover has his mug on it. <_<

Agreed on all counts. Seriously ya'll, female gamers are not the minority you believe us to be. The marketers just haven't figured that out yet! Everything is catered to young male gamers, how disasterous would ONE trailer be?? There's this huge untapped market out there, and an already loyal bioware fanbase that loves playing as women.

But as you said, I'd be stoked for just the voice or a little concept art. Something! Please!

Dear Bioware,

I am a female gamer, and I love the fact that I can play a female character in your games. I especially love Dragon Age and the Dragon Age franchise.

I know you already have a male Hawke set up for your Dragon Age 2 trailers, but in the future, would you please consider showcasing a female hero for future Dragon Age games? I would appreciate it so much, and I'm sure other female nerds such as myself who love your games would be just as thrilled and appreciative.

Thank you!

I just want to say THANK YOU JOHN for your comments in this thread. It's always nice to know that the dev team is paying attention to female Hawke and that the views of the marketing guys regarding females isn't necessarily reflective of how you guys feel.

I just wish that more companies would take a chance with a female lead and discover that they can indeed be profitable. But, the gender balance in the gaming population is equalizing, so maybe the future will look a little rosier for us lady gamers.

Just because you disagree is no reason to put people off campaigning for gender equality in video-game marketing representation. Also, at the risk of starting something unintentional, I'd like to point out that feminism exists so that you are able to *choose* not to give a crap, if that is what you truly want to do.

Yeah but do you really want that?  Lara Croft was acceptable to male gamers because she had nice assets and that was about it.   It wasnt about her personality  at all.

So because you're a girl and *you* don't care, that means that no one else is allowed to want to play as a female character? It's already established that you can play as male and female in bioware games. All anybody's asking for is a chance to see what bioware envisions for the female pc. Honestly, why are people so offended by that?

What she said. Nothing wrong with wanting a little representation. Does that make me a feminist?
