I am female and I don't give a **** whether the main character of Dragon Age or any other game is male or female. I also don't care whether the gender of choice for marketing purposes in games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age (i.e. games where the protagonist can be both male and female) is male as long as the game itself is good.
Come to think of it - I'd prefer to drool all over sexy male Hawke swinging his polearm, casting forbidden magicks and all that jazz, rather than stare blandly at some chick.

Also, games are for fun, not for your stupid feminist crap.

I somewhat agree with this...

The thing is, we're not jumping up and down, screaming "boycott the hairy bastards! Boycoooott!", foaming at the mouth and being unreasonable.

We are asking to see something of a female Hawke. We are not asking for a place on the cover art. We're not even asking for equal marketing, although how cool would that be? It's honestly extremely frustrating and irritating that people come in here and feel the need to tell us how wrong we are, and how we're selfish feminist b*tches, and we should just give up.

We are asking nicely, politely, and within reason. I have seen more insane/unreasonable appeals that are treated like fair requests--why do guys (and girls, evidently) come in here and be so negative?

That's great, but now imagine that you could have your cake and eat it too! If you don't give a damn, you're not affected in any way by them including a female protagonist in their marketing while a bunch of others are positively affected.

Also, games are for fun, so there's no reason to aim for proper representation to make it that much more fun for some people without making it any worse for anyone else? There's a leap in logic there that I just can't figure out.

I would argue, though, that just because you don't want more representation in games, that doesn't mean it should be verboten for others to want it. Obviously, the first priority of any game should be making it an enjoyable game to play. But what's the harm in asking (in a polite way, I will emphasize once more!) the development team to take your concerns into consideration?

No one's asking for a game and story based around the ideals of second-wave feminism, but merely that we as developers acknowledge that there are more than one audience interested in our product. And I honestly don't see that as unreasonable in the slightest.

The OP was very well put and polite, unlike your own post, which doesn't seem to indicate you've read this thread at all.  Just because you're female and YOU don't care about having the *choice* to play a female character and being given the opportunity to see that female character in marketing before you buy the game, doesn't mean that other female players (or men who enjoy playing female characters) shouldn't have that opportunity.

And go read some books about feminism before tossing the word around.  You look very silly right now.

If they do have a FemHawke in the trailer it wouldn't interfere with your gaming experience would it? And even if neither of you care about the gender of the protagonist, the fact that the option exists does not impede on your gameplay either. So what exactly is the problem?

Besides that purifico, this the OP forwarded her opinions in an intelligent and respectful manner, so I don't really understand why you thought that it warranted such a rude response.

(p.s If you hate feminism so much, please go back to the kitchen and resume making sandwiches kthx.)

I bet you would make an amazing negotiator on the United Nations floor.

What the hell?! These posters have been nothing but civil and requested nothing more than a little equal exposure to their sex in the advertising campaigns to follow. They haven't shouted "Ooh! All these revealing armours are so sexist!" or "Why is it that Morrigan (a woman) has to be the mean one? Its so sexist!". I myself take issue all the time with women crying wolf on the sexist issue but this is simply not one of those cases. Now grow up, act a little more mature, treat people with respect and if you have a problem with what they're asking, say it in a normal, unabusive and slightly less pervy way.

On the topic btw, I would approve of this. If not for DA2 then definitely for DA3.

John, you're the man!  And, I want to thank you for providing some muscle tone the female human model.  I just saw a screen shot of an NPC from the IGN preview, and she is great!  She is well porportioned and believable as a female warrior.  Thanks Again!^_^

To be fair, Dracula was able to walk around in daylight just fine, albeit weakened.

There is a scene in the novel in which Dracula is seen around town right before sunset. He is also awake in the morning to be able startle a shaving Jonathan by sneaking up on him sans reflection.

So while sparkling is ridiculous and way off base, the "quintessential" vampire did not burst into flames in the sunlight, either.

So because you're a girl and *you* don't care, that means that no one else is allowed to want to play as a female character? It's already established that you can play as male and female in bioware games. All anybody's asking for is a chance to see what bioware envisions for the female pc. Honestly, why are people so offended by that?

I am offended because there seems to be some group that are taking the trailer to far and making mountains out of molehills. There is NO BIG CONSPIRACY TO PUT WOMEN DOWN. It was just a chioce for this trailer.

CGI trailers ARE NOT CHEAP or QUICKLY made.

This whole "what BW envisions" or "gender neutraility" is PC bull **** and like all political correntness arguments it is a slipery slope that does more harm then good. What does it matter when you get to play the enitre game a female? Maybe go back and read that more time is being devoted to making both the female and male experiances unique (go read gaiders respone earlier)?

IT IS JUST SOME MARKETING. The CGI is little to nothing. If someone decides they dont want to play DA2 because in this ONE trailer it is a male lead then I feel pity for that person and they need to revaluate their outlook on life.

Would I be happy if there were more lead roles in video games that were females? That is an answer I can not give because I have not seen how they were represented in those roles. I dont like the whole mentality of "games are played by guys so we will market to guys" but then again I also dont go on a rampage when I see the latest Tommy Hilfiger commercial with men that I could never look like (I work for a living my living is not working out in the gym even tho I wish it was)

Bottom Line:
I agree with the original posters sentiments. I do not agree with the turn this thread has takenor the hypocritical tone presented within by several of the posters. (not a direct shot any one person.)

If nothing else I would like an answer to this one question. What does it matter that in a CGI trailer a male is shown but it is allready common knowledge that you will be able to choose a female IN THE GAME and gaider has allready mentioned that both genders are getting equal time? So what does it matter?

You are correct. Vampires have always had some kind of weakness to sunlight, but the severity of that weakness varies from one piece of fiction to the next.

But this is starting to edge away from being related to DA2, so let's try and nudge things back on-topic
