This game was marketed heavily, yet it sill didnt sell.
I think a release on the ps3 is a contingency plan in case of dissopointing sells. Mass effct 2 only pulled in 1.90 mil while ea might have been expecting 3 mil
just for the icening on the cake it sold less than mass effect 1 yet was higher rated the truth is "xbox fanboys" would rather play cod than a enjoy a great story.

And ea is all about sales.

You're right about the xbox fanboys playing Cod.

For instance, I let THREE different people play Mass Effect 1 and within ten minutes all THREE of them swapped in Cod;Mw2 and never played it again. I can see the bussiness stragety of this but really they should have released all three after they were released on Xbox so they wouldn't have to worry about story arc's or release dates, etc.

Yea mass effect 1 one turned a lot of people off from the series with all its bugs and frame rate problems.

Actually, that's the most well thought-out thing I've seen all day. Just think about it for a second, and you'll see the difference between the two console exclusives. One is story driven (PS3), and the other is Multiplayer/Run'n'gun (Xbox360)

I have a PS3 and Xbox. Really though Mass Effect was the crowning game for Xbox for me. PS3 has some really cool games like Uncharted..and uh...other stuff. But one thing that got Xbox is that it has party chat and private chat. PS3 is just so un-socialable that I when I was bored I couldn't just get on it, like Xbox and talk to people. But Mass Effect should be on all consoles like I said, just after the 3rd was released.

What's your proof that ME 2 was disappointing sales wise? Most companies don't often take the extra resources to port a crappy game to a new console. I know it's possible to get some sort of fix on xbox sales but the PC market is much harder to nail down, because of our purely digital releases.

The PS3 has a messaging system o_O

It has that game 'Home' too. But that was a little weird...

Mass Effect made around 2 million sales in first week.

Warfare 2 pulled 4.7 million in first 24 hours.

Home is boring and you both have to be in there to type and I don't want to continuously send messages back and forth when I could be talking with them. To each their own, I suppose.

So? because it didn't pull as many sales as modern warfare 2 it did poorly in sales? It's an RPG it's going to have a smaller market than that game. I honestly doubt when they were making it they were saying 'unless this sells more than modern warfare 2 in the first week we are a failure' infact that article says otherwise.

Yeah. A sharp drop in price? A demo months after release? And now they pull this PS 3 version out of their hats? Someone doesn't like the sales numbers, it seems to me.

It could have something to do about sales, but why be so negative. Too me, the fact that EA is releasing this franchise on the PS3 lends more credence to the fact that they are taking the franchise seriously.

Why can't people be happy that others get to experience what they have already. It's just a game guys, and of course EA wants to make more money. What company doesn't?

Plus all we really know right now is that the game is going to be released on the PS3 with some extra content, in and around January 2011. We should wait a few weeks before crying wolf.

First week, games don't live and die by what they sell in the first week. Sorry.

Modern Warfare was one of the hottest commodities of any genre or medium. Comparing ME to that is just foolish.

And WellBig, unless you work for EA or have a source, I'd say your "3 mill" is an asspull figure.

If they were content with their sales, I doubt a PS3 version would have came out so suddently. If they were happy with it, their priority would be continuation, not exploration until they were finished.

I looked it up and the sales for ME2 are not bad. They're just not terribly epic. It is EAs second best selling game of this year so if they can boost the numbers with a PS3 release it is just good business.

Mass Effect 2 is way ahead of it's time. I think the video game players are maturing but not enough to appreciate good stories versus silly violence. I think Mass Effect is more beautiful to me now than it has ever been. The art that is Mass Effect may only be appreciated by people intelligent enough to "get it." Which is why I find these forums better than all the others on the web. If you poll both MW2 and Mass Effect players  I wonder the average age demographic would be and there education level. Please don't dumb down Mass Effect. Ebert was quoted as saying videogames shouldn't be considered as art. He was wrong. Mass Effect is pushing our medium forward and we may have to drag the rest of these idiots along with us. If you purchased Mass Effect 2 for Xbox already I suggest buying the PS3 version and giving away the version you like the least to a friend who hasn't experienced the game. I don't know why some people just don't get it or find the game boring. If CNN broke with a news story that we had found alien bacteria on Mars some people would simply change the channel and watch football. This sort of thing comes with the territory. Mass Effect also educates. I find myself more intersted in real space science after playing this game. Great job Bioware. In a perfect world your game would outsell MW2.

Exactly. I'm 15, and completely appreciate the game and the potential it has, and executed, opposed to Warfare 2. And you're right in a perfect world, it would sell more than MW2.

I wasn't trying to imply that you were bashing the PS3 or its fans... What I meant was don't be negative in thinking the game didn't sell well. However I am sure they are looking forward too more sales on the PS3 system.

In a purely buisness sense it is completely logical to bring the franchise to the PS3 and even the MAC in the future. Especially if they want to build it into their own version of Star Wars and Star Trek success levels and societal concious penetration.
