God no! If I may make one wish for Dragon Age 2, it is that Bioware stay the hell away from crappy modern rock music with guitars that sound like farting hamsters.

1. Rock guitars have no place in a medieval fantasy game unless it's a licensed adaptation of A Knight's Tale.

2. If you want your rock music to sound "hard", don't have guitars that sound like farting hamsters.

Seriously though. Am I the only one who thinks rock music is completely misplaced in a game like this?

Yes.

Well probably not the only one, but I for one like it. I wouldn't know why any genre of music would be misplaced in a fantasy game.

..I liked it. I love the mixture of rock music meeting Dragon Age Origins vocals. That was epic. I'd happily download that mp3.

I didn't think the BGM was that great. There were some nice moments, but for the most part, it sounded uninspiring past the first minute.

It is possible to have a rock style/fusion soundtrack done for these kinds of games, but not easy. I'd say Bill Brown is one of the better composers to have done work with that in mind.

LOL.

Seriously though, did you? That... wasn't modern rock, as I know it. And I happen to like "modern rock" mixed with these games. AND in DA:O the in-game music was anything like that, so I don't know what the hell you're complaining about.

& to OP, if you do find the mp3, could you send it my way?

Musically it was a nice melding of the original DA trailer material with new material. Again the voices steal the show again for me. Always vocal music is the most evocative and when used well within a creates the most memorable music.

Edit: again, aggain, again, again.  I think there's an echo in my post.

The chorus part was pretty great actually but then it went nowhere. I mean, i expected the music to build up to a crescendo or something but it never happened.

Instead of arguing, maybe someone could answer the OP question? Or at least name the track that was playing in the trailer? I'm pretty sure it is not Two Steps From Hell, some other company who specializes in trailer music?

Yes, it seemed like a motife that is likely to be expanded upon.  I wanted it to go further bu t I assume it's being held back for the cut-scene where it takes place (like the battle for ostegar) or at least a trailer closer to release.

Bioware save us.. ME.. from soundtrack hellllll. What is the trailer theme and where can I pilfer it. Because if it's in-house don't make me go all Kasumi on your studio.

I know he was just asking if the track was available somewhere, and I'm not blasting him personally for it. The trailer could have played my favourite song by Led Zeppelin, and I'd still think Bioware were idiots for using it. I'm using a topic dealing with the music of Dragon Age to vent my righteous nerd rage at Bioware for including rock music in any and all material pertaining to Dragon Age. I want orchestral and/or choir style music for my fantasy games simply because the anchronistic contrast between distorted electric guitars and a medieval setting rubs me the wrong way,

During the run up to the first game, the style of the trailers worried me a lot. They seemed to focus only on spectacular fight scenes scored with horrendous rock music with guitars that sounded like chihuahas run through a blender. The game itself however, appeared to have gotten it all right, with orchestrated music throughout. However, when Thirty Seconds to My-ass started playing during the ending credits of the first game, I immediately deducted a point form the game's score.

Yes, I'm probably insane, and I'll probably be flamed and ridiculed even more for being so detailed and longwinded in my explanation. But here's the kicker: I don't care. I've made my point. You all have a good day now, and I wish you good luck in finding that piece of music if you like it.

It's clear some folks weren't all that tickled pink about the choice of tracks in the Trailer. I, for one, loved it. While I do agree that Metal riffs would seem out of place in, say, Lord of the Rings, Dragon Age is not *trying* to be Lord of the Rings. It's trying to be something new in the Realm of Dark Heroic Fantasy. I think the choice of bringing in Guitars riffs and Rock works well with the Brutal setting of the DA Universe. Frankly, I think the Composers and Music editors deserve a round of applause for the Trailer's amazing Sound Track. Not saying others are wrong for not liking it, just saying that I love it and I hope we get a complete Soundtrack similar to the Original. Would also love for 30 Seconds to Mars to get tapped for another song. As for where to find an MP3 of the trailer music, I couldn't really say. Give it a week at most and you should be able to find 'em. It was the same way with DAO and ME2.
