I find it odd how any female character we show (remember Morrigan?) will have their physical attributes picked apart on the forums and immediately declared ugly, doubly so if it's a prospective romance. In this respect, it almost makes me glad the marketing version of Hawke is male.

just askin, you guys in Bioware actually think that the DA2 Trailer pirate hag, the SA trailer Morrigan, the ingame morrigan and leliana (before mods) are really pretty?

SA trailer Morrigan, in-game Morrigan, and this gypsy pirate chick are all hot in my book.

Leliana didn't do a thing for me, though.

A) You've barely seen this character. You don't even get a good look at her in the trailer.

B) This sounds exactly like the comments following Morrigan's first appearance.

C) I've yet to see any character that managed to be physically appealing to everyone. It's not possible. Yet I do notice that the dwelling on physical attributes is almost always restricted to female characters. All I said was it was odd-- perhaps not even odd, really, but sadly typical.

I am pretty sure if you put real life nude men and women in the trailer, everyone would be happy... But I guess that a random popping nude dude/gal would be a bit of a disappointment from the serious point. :o

I liked both Leliana and Morrigan's appearance in both the sacred ashes trailer and in game even though they were totally different.

1. The in game face will not look exactly the same.

2. Even if you don't like it, when (if) the toolset is released there will be a ton of mods to pick from for her features.

Well I got news for you, we men are sadly typical creatures. For the most part we like nice boobs, long legs, a firm ass, and a generically cute face. So why not give it to us? Are you trying to prove a point that you guys are such good writers that you can make even a busted pirate chick an appealing romance? :P

Why not make it easier on yourselves and just make her traditionally attractive? Then you barely have to write anything at all, she'll sell herself.

Morrigan wasn´t so much ugly in the cinematics as having EVIL!!! written on her face. I also prefer a male Hawke for marketing, but beacuse being a fantasy game and seeing what they did to Hawke´s armor (would you go in battle with so many openings?) I don´t want to imagine what they would have made with a female. Red sonja?

Morrigan was hated and picked apart for her looks; not because she was evil.

On 1 and 2 I have no comments - because I thought the woman was fine.  But here I have to say I actually thought the Hawke in the trailer was too narrow of shoulder when you see him at the end.  He seems almost scrawny in those final imagines and not the least bit intimidating to look at.  So, yeah, I did have more of a problem with the way he looked than any of the women so far.

I really hope you're not getting bent out of shape over this. As a participant in thread since the very first reply i can assure its mostly been in good fun and wasn't malicious towards Bioware or Blur's ability to create appealing female characters. To be fair though, there have been posts criticizing hawke's appearence as well, but the player base being what it is...

A) we get a full facial zoom :P How is that not a good look?

B) Morrigan was never ugly imo just looking different

C)Majority of gamers on this forum are male so they focus more on females looks? That and you rarely produce unattractive males in your games.. Im a guy and even i can say that the males look ok

Just sayin :)

If it makes you feel any better, you could fill the game with digitized versions of victoria's secret angels and people would still call them ugly.  Elbows too sharp and all that.

No they wouldn't! At least not most of us. Yeah you'll have your typical complaints from feminists, insecure fat women, and a couple of weirdos but 90% of the male audience would just go "yeah, I'd hit that" and buy the game. This really isn't rocket science here.

Most Hawke criticism I've noticed is people are pissed they don't get to choose their own origin and must play him, but I think people are starting to get over that.

I still don't see whats so UGLY about the pirate lady. Hell, she's beautiful in my eyes, and I can be very picky at times. Sure, she might not be to everyone's taste but thats no reason to go "Oh mi gosh, she's so HIDEOUS!! Tis the end of the world!!".

Seriously people. Seriously...

Almost exact opposite here. I LOVE Leliana in both the SA trailer and in-game. Still liked Morrigan as she was a close second, but not my favorite.

In game version of Morrigan or CGI version btw? o.O
In game version I get, all women there looked unnatural and ugly, but CGI version was hawt.

May I gently point out that continuing to play to the male-centric image of gaming in your marketing doesn't help this situation at all? You've said in the past the reason why you guys market your games this way, and I understand it, but always adhering to a male protagonist as the "face" of your games and using female characters pretty much as eye candy only perpetuates this atmosphere. Saying it's "sadly typical" then seems a bit ironic, don't you think?

And yes I understand that you personally don't make the marketing decisions. But you've defended them in the past.

Yes, I'm sure nobody could find fault with that. Posted Image

I know you people will dissect any old information that comes along, even the blurriest of pictures-- but wow. Sometimes I am still surprised by the internet. Time to avert my gaze, I think.

There's so much more to a character than their specific facial features anyways.  They just have to not be fat and not be disfigured... and then have a look that goes with an attractive attitude, and then they can be attractive.

No, that's not what perpetuates "this atmosphere". The "atmosphere" is what it is because most gamers are men, and most men like our women hot. It's a simple as that. Bioware is just marketing to its audience.

Way to poke the hornet's nest there.  Very subtle :pinched:

And for the record, I think the pirate lady, Leliana, and Morrigan all look great.  Though my Warden is still the prettiest :D

A) old gypsy pirate ... not my type (subjective)
B) i was just asking for inside opinion (like if people in bioware thinks she is pretty or there are some debates aswell) ... i was just wondering how you guys sees it ... :-)
C) totally understands that ... its hard ... and therefore its challange ... dont Bioware likes to defeat challenges? :-)

dont get me wrong ... im just curious not disrespecting your work or anything like this
