Don't forget Hapshepsut or Cleopatra - powerful women accomplishing incredible feats are not unheard of in history.  And would one rather play the life of one of Alcibiades less known lovers - brushing up against great historical figures but never really making a difference?  When we watch films and play games we typically want to take on - or watch - the progress of a really important and interesting person.  It isn't an accident that we are playing the role of a Hero - the story wouldn't have been told if we weren't.

Keep in mind that the "pirate lady" in-game might look quite different than in the trailer. Just compare the characters in the Secret Ashes trailer with the characters in DAO.

In historical circles it is commonly believed that Cleopatra wasn't that attractive, but she was extremely charismatic and knew how to use people to her advantage.

Spot on! She is not truly ugly in no screenshot. And let's not forget how Morrigan looked in the SA video >< she was NOT pretty! But she ended up quite well. While Leliana was beautiful in the SA video but fugly in the game.

Have to respectfully disagree here.. About Leliana being 'fugly' in game. She was, by far, my favorite character in the game, for both her personality and her looks (which were fantastic, btw). And that's without mods as well. But that's just my opinion (and I'm a bit biased since I have an infatuation with red heads ).

And thats exactly it. You can't create a character that looks perfect for everyone. You can make a character however, who looks acceptable to most; and what Bioware is trying to do in addition to that, me thinks, is to have characters who are not too standard looking; who actually look interesting.

Never said you could or couldn't make one that pleases everyone. I was just saying that I liked Leliana lol. She wasn't 'perfect' looking, but she was still good looking and pretty. I'm sure they can do that for 'pirate lady' (wish we had a better name for her than that.. Oh well..).

I suppose that f*cking both Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony can be considered an incredible feat by some. Good for her.

More like manipulating both and more to insure the survival of her nation. (at least for a time)  Don't let the HBO series be your sole source of information on a remarkable woman.

Yeah, I think it was mostly the animation of her laugh that made her look a bit strange. The actual SA Morrigan isn't bad looking at all.

Then again I'm one of the ones who like the pirate woman so I obviously have no taste.
