I disagree with the whole "Girl = sex appeal" marketing that games and movies are doing as of late. Why does this warrior who is fully equipped in armor have a plate bra? Or that this person is fighting zombies in a swim suit?

It's ridiculous, when a woman is portrayed as realistic is sudden considered unattractive and it needs to be changed.

I agree.

One of my pet peeves in games is how all too often the kick-ass female character is in the skimpiest costume imaginable, to the point that what she is portrayed as wearing would be completely impractical for what she is portrayed as doing. The plate bra is a perfect example. What would be the point of even wearing plate over your breasts, if every other bit of skin surrounding it is exposed? I'm all for a little sex appeal but it should be balanced with some believability.

It's nice to have guys who say something rather than 'MORE BOOBS!" for a change. I agree with both comments (I am a girl FYI), Morrigan suffered from this unfortunately, her outfit is ridiculously  impractical, even if she is a mage. I mean, her breasts were basically falling out of her 'clothing' and was drastically different from what Flemeth wore.

However as long as there are men designing most game characters for RPGs, nothing will change...I mean, look at some of the Final Fantasy characters...

I don't think it's even the fact that men work on making games. Sex has been proven to sell in all sorts of statistics for movies, games, any media really. And if it sells, companies will use it. You can change the characters into something less revealing, at least on DAO, if you want to.

Yet I don't see stripped down, hunky males..(Alistair isn't a hunky male <_<). I understand what you're saying but you can't disregard the fact that since most games dev teams are comprised mostly of a male team, they tend to be more okay with over-sexualizing female characters for marketing. If you had an all female team I highly doubt it would come up with the same clothing designs.

I mean have you SEEN some of the pictures on Deviantart?

Don't think it was demand so much as "who's likely be a origins dlc companion" thread topic, her & Jowan came up ALOT in those, i recall that much, but otherwise yes, i don't believe it Isabella either

Unless they did a major retcon to Isabella's appearance, I don't believe the pirate woman in the trailer is Isabella. Their faces look nothing alike and the woman in the trailer had black hair while Isabella was a redhead.

I was quiet convinced that Morrigan would turn into a monster and start eating people during the SA trailer.

I was not disappointed.

But you became that the very first time you got her in a fight, ingame, and immediately turned her into a spider...

I am perfectly willing to deal with having to slightly avert my eyes to overly sexually designed males catering to feminine appeal as long as I can oggle exaggerated female parts that make me enjoy life more.

I am a fan of hentai; I am sorry, and I cannot be stopped. I like women real and sometimes I like them exaggerated. I like them BOTH!

The game should find a balance though. Not EVERY female needs to be exxagerated. I also think that some MALES should be exaggerated to appear to female tastes. It is all fair. Everyone deserves a little guity-pleasure eye candy.

I'll tell you a little secret.
Most gaming females past the age of seven don't want to play my little pony or barbie goes shopping either. Of all the gaming girls I know, I'm the only one who doesn't play shooters. Don't believe me? There's a plethora of females on this very forum. I can't say if none of them plays My Little Duckling or Barbie Goes to the Zoo or whatever, but I can tell you what they do play: Dragon Age, Mass Effect, a lot of them are looking forward to The Old Republic.

Now, I agree with the assessment that a game designed only by women would be drastically different, I don't see why that would mean it'd suck.

Now that we got the gender-prejudices out of the way:

You are right for the most parts. Expect for the swords, because she HAS a sword and a dagger.

Ok, I see it now. Thanks. Still, the weapon she holds at one certain moment doesn't cast in stone the weapons she always uses.

And the 'dark brown' is her hair in shadow. the lit side looks pretty red to me.

Apparently, these days your hair has to be black or platinum, otherwise it's red.
Seriously, people, that hair in the screenshot is brown. Yes, it's darker in the shade, but it's still fairly-dark-brown (granted, maybe on the side of light-brown) in the light. It's nowhere near red.

Hey, I don't think of women as sex objects, I actually think it stupid. Why wear so little armor!? It will get you killed!

Morrigan, Sten, and Leliana didn't look a whole lot like themselves either in the Sacred Ashes trailer. In reality none of Blur's character look a whole lot like the character from the games they depict do. I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in the "It's not Isabella because they look different" reasoning.

Agreed. Same for Leliana. So I started playing with mods.
And then Leliana's song came out and she looked hideous by comparison... <.<

Im a female working as an artist in game development, and i like big ****** on my female characters, i also like small ******, what i like the most is the option to decide for your self. I belive a game designed by all females would provide more customizability not be ****.

(This is aimed at everyone talking about this topic) Firstly, I used my words very carefully for a reason, I said males 'tend' to be okay oversexualizing female characters for the sake of marketing and also just..fashion I guess (it's more fashionable in RPGs to have revealing female characters), not to say female designers don't do this too. So Nefily, sorry if I perhaps offended you, that wasn't my intention.

I do however take personal offence to the fact you think a game with an all women dev team would be rubbish and be 'my little pony or barbie'. Putting aside the fact that an all female dev team will never happen in the immediate future (due to lack of interest from the majority of the female populace), those who DO like games seldom enjoy 'My little pony' and 'Barbie', actually those games were designed by MALE dev teams who thought they knew what was best to capture a very young female audience.

But you know, why to be sexist. And FYI, I'm studying to do games programming and then hopefully games design, so one day I can be part of a dev team and I can tell you for a fact I won't be making 'my little pony' games,
