If the whole galaxy was at stake, the hero should be focused on saving it. Spending time/resources and risking your life doing out-of-the-way sidequests with good deeds here which doesn't help you progress any closer in the main mission and there are only for unfocused heros.
It's a game. I like to get the most out of my game so I sure am going to play the sidequests.

It has been said that everyone should live as if they'll die tomorrow.
But if I did that I'd be a wanted criminal.

One of the most commonly reported problems with ME's plot is how it gives you a heavy sense of urgency, to the point where doing sidequests seems entirely unnecessary and out of place. This was especially noticeable in ME1.TheGreyGhost119 wrote...
I agree. I always hate when I am forced to do sidequests during the main mission/story. I thought that was one of the biggest improvements from ME1, to be honest.
I actually remember a thread posted not too long ago in which people asked for ME3's plot to feel less urgent.

Well TIM doesn't fund you that well. So you have to go out and solve other people's problems for credits, guns, and experience.
Yeah it's amazing the amount of people who hide credits inside medi-gel packs.

once I get the quest to go to the derelict reaper I completely ignore and I go around and make sure that I've done all the quests including side ones all of the upgrades i can get, I also make sure that I have all of the ship upgrades.
I guess you could say that I'm a completionst I have to have everything, all items all acheivments do all quests etc, I'm like that with every game

Your against Side-quests?
May I ask you something?
Could it be, that you haven't played a single RPG aside from Mass Effet/2?

I like side quests though, and lots of them. ME2 didn't feel as urgent as ME1, so the side quests felt a bit more approachable to me during first playthrough.

The first time I played ME1 I didn't do hardly any side quests because the "A Race Against Time" main quest had me thinking not to let Saren get more than one step ahead of me.

You thought there was a Race against Time? I didn't feel that way at all. Even if there was a game where you were supposed to race against time I would intentionally take my sweet time to go around help people or not.

What bothers me is the fact, that we are supposed to open every wall safe in order to get our money. I am especially upset about the one in the human appartment (the couple you can convince to go to the clinic) in Mordin's recruitment. I mean you can practically steal all their money just in fron of them and they don't even complain.
Acquiring money by stealing/hacking ... that bothers me in ME2. We should be able to make enough money by quest rewards without the need to resort to act like a criminal.

At least in ME2 the sidequests do not bother me. As others pointed out, Shepard waits for something to happen, before a move can be made.

I can see where someone has a problem with that, but to me it doesn't even bother me at all

Like take BG2, some of the side quests were really deep, and a lot of fun, but I was always thinking 'Jee, I really would like to help you with your problem and all, but you see this guy right, has my god derived soul, and is poised to do unspeakable evil with it unless I actually stop him, oh yeah and I'll die without it, so best be on my way. Chin chin.'
If Bioware were to adopt a more do this/exclude that style of gameplay that you see in the Witcher, then they'd make the game choices have some real gameplay crunch, instead of the current fluff we get.
However, that's not for everyone, and some people don't like making choices (in a game).

Now that would be hilarious!
Shepard: All right team, the Reapers are on their way, and it's up to us to stop them. Now, at the end of the last game some people say they were about 7 years away. This game took two years to develop so that leaves us with 5. Anybody got any daddy issues you'd like to take care of?

I'm not against side-quests. Infact, I always do them. HOWEVER, I was just stating that doing side-quests makes your Shepard unfocused to the real important galaxy-saving mission.
