I decided earlier today to try tinkering with the console to see how it worked. I looked up info on it on the Dragon Age Wikia site, installed a mod that allows you to see the console text, edited my Steam run settings and got the console itself to work. I know this because I can see the console and can type in it.
However, the problem lies in that no matter what command I type, I always get the "ERROR: cannot execute function" message. At first I thought it might be a problem with the command I was trying so I tried others but always got the same result. So far, non of the console commands work.
I wonder if anyone knows what the issue is. I have tried it both with a new game and an old save game, paused and unpaused. So far I cannot find out why it won't work.
I have the Steam version (With Awakening and all DLCs) and some 3rd party mods. Nothing major tho, just the mage lock pick mod and the reskill mod. Running version 1.4 of course.
This isn't anything major as I was just going to mess around but it always bugs me when something doesn't work and google and forum searches for this haven't come up with a solution.

You cannot paste copied text in DA:O console. You have to type manually the command you want to execute. If you do not see what you type, try the following fix:

Hi Jack, I didn't paste copied text into the console. I typed them out. And I can see the console text as I have the console mod. I wouldn't be able to see the error message if I didn't.

Could you please give a sample of the commands you tried to type and that gave you this error?

Here are a few:
runscript pc_immortal
runscript setplayerimmortal
runscript addxp 1 [I tried a few values from 1 to 10000, none worked]
runscript zz_dropparty
runscript dbg_setattrib 1 50
I did this first on a save game in the Haven temple just before the dragon area, I was going to test some things with the dragon. Then I tried making a new game as a mage, and tried some of those commands right at the very start (in the Fade test) but neither worked. I got the "ERROR: cannot execute function" in both cases.

Sorry, I'm stuck. Generally, this error is caused by a mistype in the command line but I see none in your examples.

Yeah I double checked that. I even checked to see if there was a typo in the commandline code to access the console but there isn't as if there would have been the console wouldn't even appear.
I was going to set myself for immortality while fighting the dragon to test out some things but I guess I won't be doing that :S

First off let me apologize for necroing this old thread.
I am having the same problem as Nephilia - I enabled the console, I can see the text, but no single runscript command works. They all come back with ERROR: Cannot execute function "runscript..."
Any thoughts what might be causing this?

Hi. I apologize for again necro'ing the thread, but I recently had this problem and have found a solution. How many of you have enabled accents on your computer through an international keyboard configuration? So that if you press ' + e with no spaces, you end up with é, for example.
Press ` to bring up the console, press the spacebar and the ` should appear on the line you are typing on. Use backspace to remove the ` and then type in your command as normal.
Hope this helps!
