Hello all,
For me, Patch 1.04 did not cause any stability issues or errors or lock ups.
I have had Dragon Age Origins since launch. I installed all patches when they were released, bought and installed the DLC content when released. I bought awakenings the day it came out-retail. I have had 1 period of timewith issues and will tell you how it was fixed.patch 1.02 and 1.03 need to be installed before certain content or many problems occur. 1.03 must be installed before Awakenings.
The retail version automatically installs it or HIGHLY recommends I don't remember which, but it may not on a digital download so if you installed it or any DLCs before the patch they require it seems from my experience and others trouble is likely. Before Lelianas Song or GoA you need 1.04. The health of your games stability and install seems directly related to appropriate patch installs in the right order. Also I had a problem early where my game crashed here and there.
I found out from bioware that the AVG anti Virus 8 I was using is a conflicting program and when it auto scans running software as part of routine security it crashes always. DAO seems very finnicky about ANTI VIRUS softs, a friend used panda, and had problems. One used symantec and even with AV off they still had issues. Bioware and I recommend using MSE Microsoft security essentials. NO CRAP! I am being very serious! I doesn't bother DAO and it is good anti-virus software. It runs in the background always but has LOW usage specs, Very frequent fast installing virus database updates and DAO likes it! It works very well.
ALSO- It is also very helpful to have these files in your windows install, you will see them in programs and features- install/uninstall in controll panel (I use Win Vista 32 bit)
1.) MICROSOFT Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable,
2.) MICROSOFT Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable ATL Update kb973923- x86 8.0.50727.4053
3.)MICROSOFT Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.4148
the x86 will be x64 if you use a 64bit OS. I am not sure if Seven uses these same names but I am pretty sure some fashion of the files are there, maybe someone could tell in this thread?
I read from a post somewhere that Visual C++ are very important Mine came when I made sure I checked them in auto update. I am not sure if you need all these or the latest, but Windows wants them all installed and since I have done these installs. NO MW2 problems, No WaW, No Oblivion, No Starcraft II issues. IF you have these files and install them have your DAO installs in order, maybe reinstall after backing up saves and character data in sequence.

ALSO MSE anti Virus. It never bothers games and my system has never been so clean. Don't believe me? Try it.
The only issue I have had since then is my GoA DLC install got interuppted during install (Router came unplugged during cleaning, arrrgh) Now it gos to download area in the content menu but stays at 0%, its funny all the files for the add-on seem to be there in the files where they belong?
Thats my experience in the mix, Alot of writing and reading, but its what happened.
