The real double standard is, of course, that there's various females or female-looking things "hanging it all out", and some rather skimpy female "armor". But no men that I've seen.

Can't say I'm surprised.

Im going to take a different approach here and say they dont show nipple because developers can never decide on how the nipple should look. Should it be a quarter, a silver dollar, or a dinner plate? There are many individual preferences, and I would rather see a breast with hair covering the nipple, so in my mind I can imagine the nipple just as I desire, opposed to being forced to look at someone elses ideal nip, and ruining the whole experience for me.

My only problem is the "wraps" themselves. With all the obviously capable armor designers there are at Bioware one would think that they could design some more "romantic" and sexy underwear than some wraps that look like war bandages... you guys never look at a lingerie catalog? If Morrigan has to change before the "act" anyway, you would think she would be putting on the good stuff.

I have a solution. Bioware should put out an adult only add-on (18 and over) that will allow us to have a more realistic depiction. This would only be purchasable with a valid id. And, if they're going to do that, include more cut scene interactions between the love interests, etc.

Another thought, the prostitutes in the Pearl are way to over dressed. It's a BROTHEL. Show some skin.

Let's clear some things up. This is right on the border of becoming an anti-american flame fest. I am probably not the only one who is getting a bit annoyed by the sentiment.

First; Lets try not to paint the citizens of this country with the same brush. There is no category for "Americans" we do not think the same way, we do not vote the same way, we do not act the same way. Please do not treat us as if we are all the same.

Second; It is worth pointing out that we currently have the most liberal government top to bottom we have ever had. There are no "god fearing bible thumpers" in the majority. This has nothing to do with religion or morals.

Third; the real problem is not the church, or "republicans." Neither of those two entities currently has any power here AT ALL. The real problem is that the press and the government (at all levels) are so cravenly PC that they are afraid to fart because it might contribute to "global warming." It is not conservatism. We haven't had that here since the 80's, it went out with hair bands (I do miss the hair bands though). Our problem, and frankly the problem with a lot of countries is the PC movement. Which, in my opinion is likely to cause the downfall of society. People need to HTFU and just deal.

Sadly for your little stand there it is mostly America. The stereotype of "Guns and violence are fine, but show a nipple and soccer mums go up in arms" exists for a very good reason.

It simply stands that the US ratings board is well against most of the world when it comes to such things.

question: would a male PC have a hidden roll for length if nudity was included?

Not to be a... well...  dick, but it brings in all sorts of variables with male and female characters, as well as your npcs.  How much time do our developers need to spend thinking about nipple radii/length/girth/hair issues/ saggage...etc.

That is odd as I recall the desire demon at least in my game, had metal piece covering the nipples with a little tassels coming out of each of them.. in most shots.

Through they seemed inconsistent between shots.. I never thought about it before...

I think it would push the reating into AO from the ESRB. I think the hair and Desire Demon "coverings" are just enough to escape the Adults Only rating.

God of War and Age of Conan were full of nudity and they were not AO. I think the difference is that showing a love-making scene with nude bodies, no matter how tastefully done, would be over the line.

If you ever played the god of war games you would know that there is nudity in sex scenes and that its a mini game that you play. So your point doesnt work here since its even more involved that in DA:O since your involved with the sex scene by playing its mini game

He is saying that the PC movement is responsible for the issues for not wanting to offend a small segment of the population.  Really, this game is a dark fantasy, and is advertised as such.  Not too many people who would be put off by all the violence and other mature themes would be part of the target audience.  So its not likely to be a large backlash.

Heck, I am 30+ years old and a Christian but have the ability to know that what I bought was a game.  I know how to seperate reality from fantasy.  In other words, a little bit of responsibility on the part of the purchaser, would go a lot farther in getting things like what the OP describes taken care of than trying to quell the soccer moms.  Personal responsibility is the key here.  Then again, personal responsibility would solve a whole heck of a lot of problems in the world today.

Something else to consider, and I have no proof, but it seems logical. When you talk about beheadings and gore and what not, thats not an easy thing for an impressionable teen to go and do. Sure, you have the rare nutjobs but almost all kids would they be in a position to actually cut someone's head off would have second thoughts because it hurts someone else.

But the sexual side of the M rating doesnt hurt anyone else. Unless you go to rape but the scenes that are being talked about arent rapes. They are consensual. It doesnt hurt anyone(actually for most folks consensual sex feels pretty good) at the time so many wouldn't think twice. Sure, you get into problems of STDs and pregnancy and all that good stuff, but that doesn't come until later. If you kill someone with a sword its pretty instantaneous at what happened and the repurcussions of that.

What I don't get is the double standards between movies and games. Well, I do get it, games are the current scapegoat for irresponsible parents, but still. Movies show just about anything at an R rating, equivalent to M, short of gratuitous sex. And I mean anything. The Watchmen, anyone? Swinging junk all over that, and sex, and it was still R. And yet games are still so limited, just because they're a newer medium. Much as I can't stand games being a scapegoat for bad parenting, I hate the hypocrisy even more.

I believe it might have something to do with what happened when they released Mass Effect...I recall there being something of a debacle after Fox news picked up the fact that you could "Have sex" in the game and thus blew up about how little kids were going to be able to play it...or some garbage like that...and IMO the scenes in Mass Effect were tastefully done for the most part. I think it was Bioware trying to avoid the crapstorm that might ensue.

LOL, heck with Watchmen (such a terrible movie) ever watched Tru Blood? Yikes (love that show) but Anna Paquin is mighty healthy and we all can see it for ourselves!

Anna would make a good Isolde, heheh  Posted Image

That plays at 10pm on Space channel here in Canada now uncut (Space is standard cable (think Sci Fi in States), not special like HBO Canada and TMN channels)

to those suggesting we actually design our private parts on the Avatar creater, I think thats going a bit to far myself personally. but full frontal cut screen should offer up no problems.

PS: How come I dont get option to wear socks to bed btw? My feet have poor circulation and get cold dang it!!!!!!!!! Posted Image

You can do that? How? I never came across that in my run. O.o

And yes I've noticed that doublestandard. I found it a bit odd that they still had their underwear on when the sex scenes showed instead of just moving the camera into such a position that the bodies blocked any 'bits'.

Double standard? Oh that's just bvll****, there's no such thing as a double standard. Just people with lofty, sanctimonious, ostentatious single standards. I mean, everyone knows that there's only one God and Joseph Smith is his Prophet, right?

*Insert caricature of the Prophet Muhammed here*

Of considerable interest should be the actual ESRB rating explanation for DA:O.

http://www.esrb.org/...rtificate=27228

Korvo mentioned a double standard in armors for male / female. I have to say I haven't really seen that, except in the case of Morrigan - in fact, this is one of few games without the everpresent tanga chainmails.

Me

it's yet another manifestation of the hypocrisy born of religious superstitions. somehow in their infantile minds showing 95% of a breast in a combat environment is fine, but that same breast must be 50% covered in a sexual situation.

the american theocracy has deemed sex too powerful for all children and most adults to cope with on their own without strict guidance. be thankful they enjoy making up your mind for you.

Slow down there buster, it's not a religious issue. I'm a christian, and I'm fine with it. I know plenty of other christians who would be fine with sex over extreme violence in movies/games. Stop attributing something that is down to old-fashioned prudishness to religion. It's a bigoted and idiotic response.

That said, I amn't American, so you might have something there. Us in Europe are much more comfortable with the whole sex/nudity thing than you guys are.

The weird thing is that my copy (UK version) has a M and 17 on it...that should be enough for most softcore stuff at least...meaning no actual penetration but everything else is OK...

Looks like a law that the government tried to pass in my country, a tax for over speeding when you buy a car, just because for sure you are going over the speed limit sooner or later, and since the police cannot catch everyone, you should pay up front..hehe

Or the fact that syringes are given for free in prisons, to avoid aids and other diseases, though drugs are forbidden and 99% of the guys are inside for drug related crimes...

So its the same thing, though the game is for mature players and has a M rating, we are going to cut the erotic off, just because of the 450,000 that bought the game on the first day, more than 100,000 were 13 and under...
