Somehow I got the feeling Bethany isn't your real sister, I mean in the IGN article it is mentioned she is an Apostate. Maybe Hawkes mother took her in because she felt sorry for her?

How does it follow that because she's an apostate, she isn't your sister?   Your sister could very well be an apostate because your parents sheltered her from the Circle and managed to do it in a not-Isolde-fail sort of way.

Could be right, but still was Hawke's family from Lothering or from a village closer to Ostagar? I mean Lothering has a pretty big Chantry with a small amount of templars.

No idea.  I guess we'll find out, won't we?  Still, if Bethany is biological family, or was adopted very young, and you play a mage Hawke, it stands to reason that you're both apostate.  And that's what I care about...heh heh heh...

Let me not be so AMAZED at this...I mean, as a Cousland you had a family (which died) so probably Hawke's family will die too.....In what game they don't die?!

That would be...repetitive storyteling? Why does it have to be the same? Something happening once doesn't mean it has to happen again.

Well, I'm assuming that if you play as a mage, that you're an apostate as well? Maybe you're just a family of apostate mages!

Seriously tho, I'm willing to bet that part of the reason that made your sister an apostate mage was that so the apostate mage Hawkes and the warrior/rogue Hawkes would both have reason to avoid the Templars/Chantry, the former wanting to protect themselves and the latter wanting to protect their sister.

Fair enough--that's a very good point.  And even if you played a Hawke who didn't have magic and didn't much like his/her sister, I doubt the Chantry would just let you off scot free if they got their hands on you.  You did aid and abet an apostate mage in their eyes, so there's self-interest there for a warrior/rogue Hawke too.

Ooo, I'm gonna enjoy messing with the Chantry.  So very much.

And, most likely Hawke can be an apostate mage as well.Image IPB

After seeing that trailer, I dread to think what sibling wars must be like in the Hawke family -

"No ripping your brother in half!" "But mum, he took my toy!"

Same here.  As I've said in other threads, I look forward to really messing with the status quo in this game.  At least, the information so far is giving me the impression that we'll be in a position to do that.

I don't want my Hawke to have a family. I want her to be abandoned and bitter, a lone wolf; a ruthless killer, mowing down all who stand in her way to the top of a bloody mountain of limbs.

Thats what role playing is all about. :)

I think its awesome Hawke starts with a few family members.... not every plot needs buckets of angst.... I would like Hawke to be able to check in on his/her home every few years

What!? Family?! in my RPG?!! What sort of blasphemy is this?! I demand dead family so I can have unneeded angst and whining in a possible badazz in order to add some whining.

Side quest - Little Timmy, your cousin, is being picked on bullies. What do you do?

1. Talk them down?
2. intimidate them?
3. Set them on fire?

I will teach Timmy the proper use of Two-Handed dwarf hammer.

Huh? I bet most of them will die in the first few hours.

Anyway are you forgetting the Human Noble origin? You had a father, mother, brother ...

I don't think Bioware would redo such a concept so soon. I have a feeling they will alive for most if not all of the game.

I'm actually pretty thrilled about Hawke having family that might even survive through the game. I think it's important to have the PC feel connected to the world around him/her, and having family members is an excellent way of achieving this. It also presents different types of challenges for character development, as family members/relatives often have a much more comprehensive view on how the PC was when growing up and sometimes it's difficult to reconcile that with how the PC is now, or how he/she will be after doing all the great things Hawke is "destined" to do. It's a different type of drama than what other NPCs can offer.
