you'll change your mind once you play it <_<
I think it would be a good add cuz it could add some more game time if those family members had some side quests to them. When you thought of family you probably thought of all that happy cuddly ****, but it's Bioware for fuuucks sake! They could put some dark back story into this family stuff.

Bethany being an apostate does tell us nothing about the prior relations within the siblings... She could have been on run and be generally hated by her parents/Brothers or loved.. She may have returned to her family to save them from the Darkspawn attack...

She may have been a follower of Flemeth.....

Who can really tell?

I have this horrible feeling its going to be all happy and sunshine and the Hawke family will be all full of love and then they will get Hiroshima-fied

Oh god, I hated that in Heavy Rain.  I was like, "Why should I get attached to these slightly Uncanny Valley people when I know their lives are going to be ruined in T-1 hour?"  And then against my will, I ended up actually liking most of the characters.  Go figure.

I want your family to survive to Kirkwall, at least some of them.  I want them to survive to see Hawke become Champion and f-up the status quo and all that good stuff.  And I want to see how that affects their lives, Hawke's, and their opinion of the world.  Can you imagine the roleplaying potential for a mother watching her child slowly transforming into a brutal tyrant if you choose to go evilz?  WHEE!

That may have piqued my interest into the game even more. The two origins I love the most in DA:O, had family, and the whole community aspect helped me to better engage the game. City Elf and Human Noble, I felt gave the PC something to fight for, even is their part of Fereldan was gone.

This could be interesting!

I started out intending to play a more "evil" protagonist in DA2 for lack of information on the world.  She started out just highly ambitious and driven.  But the more I hear about DA2's setting and story and the potential for Magnificent Bastardry, the eviller my femHawke gets.  At this rate, she'll be Satan by the time the game comes out

AND IT SHALL BE GLORIOUS

So, if Bethany is an apostate, then I guess my mageHawke will be an apostate as well. It'll certainly be funny when I play supportive of the Chantry/templars.

Hawke: "Hey what's up everybody?"

Templar: "Ummm... are you an apostate?"

Hawke: "Well, ya, but you guys are cool, right? I mean, go Chantry, woo. Amirite? High five!"

Templar: "Wow... my mind is like blown away by this."

Templar #2: "Your mind is gone?! BLOOD MAGIC! MALEFICAR!" *Stabs Hawke to death*

Well in the City Elf Origin your Dad lives, and you even have to save him at one point from the slavers later on in the game.

I just hope it isnt handled badly. In Origins when you see your Brother as a human Noble at the end or your Father as a City Elf etc it's just like "yeh cool, im going now". There was no family feeling at all, it was all stiff.

That was kind of disappointing . . . especially the cold welcome from the CE's cousin . . . .

Anyway, already thinking of how my DA2 character will be like. I just hope this sequel isn't "Mas Effect 2'ed" too much

:P

Not to mention when you return to the Alienage (possibly a Year after you left seeings as I heard Origins takes place over 2 years) and you've been presumed dead with a funeral serivice held for you, shianni is pretty much just like 'you're alive, yay!' *stands there*.

It wasn't too disappointing; I understand why Soris was cold to you, generally. I mean, he was in a dungeon, you were out, in warm, or mostly-warm like areas, barring places like the Frostback Mountains, Haven which seems to be unnaturally cold [I do believe it's the Guard; he's always so nasty this time of year!], the sacred ashes temple, and uh. I forget wherelse it might be cold. I assume the Korcari wilds.

While he was stuck for..months and months and months and months in a dungeon cell with someone like Arl Uriel/Howe to bark at him. At least until Uriel kicked the proverbial bucket. It kind of also helps that, if you did the whole ****y move '40 sovereigns and you get to rape my cousin all you like!' probably doesn't help the cousin relationship any.

on the above at least Nathan Howe hugs his freaking sister in awakening! apparantly our wardens are emotionaly awkward with family

I am definetly hope'n the siblings live and i have a long term relationship with both of them for a change, i want to go drinking with hawke's brother & beat up letches who hit on his sister :D it'd be like ac2 without most your family being murderd..like...every game ever does...crap!

C'mon Ninja Gaider tell me your better than that and you went outside the obvious box and let the siblings live? don't give into writter peer preasure to copy the other cool kids~! just say no to killing family in the first 30 minutes of a game!

Eh, I don't know. I don't think I'd like having the mother survive. Sort of takes away from the adventure feeling. I'd be glad if the siblings survived, though, really glad. Also I don't find anything good in having to drag around a Templar and his wife. Though, who knows, they might turn out to be absolutely great characters.

For now, I hope those who buy the farm are MomHawke and Aveline. Also, I suppose the characters who survive can die later? Surprise me, Bioware.
