It's strange for people to complain of the Warden's story not importing (nevermind the fact that it can be imported). Dragon Age: Origins, if I recall, prior to it's release had never been said to be a game that one could import into other games.
It's not that strange. Origins more or less ends with the main character doing the proverbial walk into the sunset (if they didn't die outright) and a promise that they go on to "other adventures". For some people, they took that as "my character will appear in the sequels"-- whether that's a justifiable expectation or not.
For others, the Morrigan romancers in particular, they feel they didn't have enough closure. Rationally or not, many of them seem to expect that this meant their Warden should carry into the sequel because they still have business to finish with her.
I don't mind that. "Always leave them wanting more" is not a bad way to go.

And who's to say they won't get some of those things? Just not in DA2. Like you said, however, the decisions you make in DAO can still have an effect if you import them into DA2. But people will want what they want regardless.
