It's not that strange. Origins more or less ends with the main character doing the proverbial walk into the sunset (if they didn't die outright) and a promise that they go on to "other adventures". For some people, they took that as "my character will appear in the sequels"-- whether that's a justifiable expectation or not.
For others, the Morrigan romancers in particular, they feel they didn't have enough closure. Rationally or not, many of them seem to expect that this meant their Warden should carry into the sequel because they still have business to finish with her.
I don't mind that. "Always leave them wanting more" is not a bad way to go.
And who's to say they won't get some of those things? Just not in DA2. Like you said, however, the decisions you make in DAO can still have an effect if you import them into DA2. But people will want what they want regardless.
I kinda see why I don't visit these forums much. It makes the forums of a certian huge MMO I also play look civilized and mature.
I actually like the walk into the sunset. It leaves the opening for my own imagination to run away with what happened. It does also leave the opening for more expansions and DLC. I, and a lot of other people would probably actually be more annoyed if the ending was more concrete. As it is, my Warden gets to ride off into the sunset traveling and adventureing with her beloved. I can see far worse endings tbh.
When Awakenings came out, a lot of the complaints were about how it dealt with the ending from Origins, especially if you had a "noncannon ending" i.e. Anroa on the throne, Loghain dead, non-human noble Warden. Or so it felt. The lack of ambiguity became a problem, but now people complain about the abiguity. Seems like sometimes people will never be happy. The trailers for Awakenings, and both Dragon Ages focous on male leads, which does make me sigh a bit and feel a bit meh since I am female and always play female characters whenever possible, but especially for DA2 where the story is that specific it does make sense.
I do want more, and I'm looking forward to more DLC.
It is great news that the choices one makes in Origins does effect DA2.
As for the "does my warden beat Hawke", she'd see no reason to fight in unless she very much had to, prefering inviting him for tea and a place by the fire instead. Something to be said for some ammount of diplomacy.
