So if you use magic you are a coward?

it's like using a knife in a fist fight

But you're a mage, it's essentially part of you.

Your avatar makes it seem like all your posts are being yelled.

Yes, because Hawke won dishonorably.

He still won.

I never said that he didn't, just that he did it like a coward would. Thus Warden > Hawke.

I'd say the same about the DR Warden, though, but that choice is sort of forced upon you when you are intent on playing the expansion.

Since when is magic considered a coward's way out? How about taking the already-defeated dragon kill for yourself, without actually doing anything useful?

Actually, he kept the Dragons attention so the others could strike. And was the only one the Dragon actually managed to attack, but he did a sweet spin and slashes it on the nose. So wouldn't say he did nothing, he was the tank.

But anyways, Bioware made the Warden this awesome killing machine that became a commander (if you didn't die) of one of the most elite group of warriors in Thedas whose feats you all know. And they will most likely make Hawke just as awesome. So there is no sense in comparing the two.

People are almost never completely equal irl.  One has to be the best.

I wasn't talking about which was the "best," but the idea some people have that they can't love the Warden without hating Hawke.  It is telling that when people talk about Hawke being selfish, a coward, etc., they feel the need to mention that "the Warden would never have acted like that!"

oh, and while the qunari can take a full blade into the stomach and keep going, Hawke goes down by a superficial scratch on the belly.

It's like he said "screw this melee fighting crap, let's just press X to win and end this silly trailer"

I don't think it's cowardly to use whatever powers you have at your disposal to win in a life or death struggle- honor in combat, the way you put it, equates to stupidity or a lack of will to live.  There is no honorable or dishonorable in battle; there is only stupid and smart.  Is a mage Warden a coward for incinerating a darkspawn from 30 feet away when he has the power to do so?

From CG trailers alone, it would seem that Hawke>Warden.  Though my mage Warden would kick that Hawke's ass before he even swing that glaive once.

I'm pretty sure the qunari deflected that blow with his pronged weapon:huh:

I like this topic. I don't see any harm in comparing the two. As far as the trailers go; I'd give my props to The Warden for now, but I'm sure we'll be seeing more Hawke trailers soon.

Sacrifice Loghain or Alistair?

Please, sacrificing Alistair is even more dishonorable than that. Loghain never gets the chance to do so because the game only gives you the info which justifies that ten minutes afterwards, and I don't metagame.

mages in many fantasy settings are mostly cowards. A warrior will willingly eat many fireballs to reach his target, the mage runs away when he's out of mana because he's terrified of physical combat

Yeah I agree.  Warden could probably beat Hawke man to man, but Hawke's crazy super power would give him the edge.  Too bad the Warden didn't have some uber fade hands to rip people in half with. lol

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I only ever see the Warden fighting darkspawn mooks, and stabbing a dragon that everyone else defeated? He never takes on any larger threat. We just see him stand around and look menacing.

Ya but Darkspawn beat Sten and Sten is a Qunari general or whatever.  So this guy is probably about as good as Sten.

No...Sten stays up throughout the whole fight. We actually see Hawke defeat a powerful foe by himself, using powers we never see the Warden using. Malcolm does nothing but kill a few darkspawn.

In any case, I don't vote for either.

No I mean in the story.  Sten lost to some Darkspawn and dropped his sword, remember?  Anyway, unless this guy is better than Sten the Warden should beat Hawke before he uses his super power, right?

He was mobbed, evidently.

You've fought darkspawn mooks. Taking out three of them is nothing to behold.

I know, I was just saying that the DR isn't forced for expansions purposes when you can still sacrifice Alistair / Loghain. :P

watch the trailer and pause in that precise moment. Hawke stabs him and the blade sticks out the qunari's back, there's blood spilling too.

A mage also doesn't have any experience in fighting in melee, they're often glass cannons that are to be protected to be allowed to cast into the enemy armies. A mage can still have physical combat studies but overall it's all dedicated to the study of will instead of physically enhancing one's body.

Hmm...Or how about this:

Warriors are trained for years to be at peak physical efficiency, trained to wield blades larger than they are, move easily and swiftly with hundred pound armor on, and survive the toughest of blows.

Mages wear robes. You don't think it's a teeny dishonorable, using that logic, to attack them with a sword?

Based on looks, I'd say Hawke wins, since he looks less generic, and has more style to his looks. Fighting wise, well, he did kind of suck...

Pft. He ripped a Qunari in half, seared his head with his hand and caused an explosion of fire. That's pure awesome.

Considering how much of a powerful spell Hawke had in the trailer, I'd say it's a fair fight. No?

But that quanari used magic first, what looked like a force push after Hawk used his flaming....weapon....thing. This knocked Hawk off balance and he was then beat down until he decided to go overkill.

So if I'm a soldier in Africa and I run out of ammo, it's dishonorable they attack me with knifes? After all I'm just wearing camouflage and I am not ready for hand to hand combat.

I don't know about you guys but the people I know aren't real keen on getting into a life or death battle with a big, horny, demonic looking Qunari.

Especially if they only have a stick to defend themselves with.
