Yes, this I know. I always make Loghain a Grey Warden. Usually I persuade Al to marry Anora but I've had a couple of games where my Cousland has married her and Al has been exiled, but there's never been any ending slide saying that he turned into a slobbering drunk in the Free Marches.
So alistair left.. Will he return?

The slide doesn't say the Free Marches, but Starkhaven (which is in the Free Marches). If you're not getting any slide about Alistair after he leaves though, that sounds like a bug or something, unfortunately. Might have something to do with you marrying Anora, but I don't know having never tried?
It starts off by saying something like 'Alistair was as good as his word...', mentions he leaves Denerim before the siege on a Rivaini ship and doesn't return to Ferelden. The slide says after about a year there is a coup on Ferelden's throne that borrows Alistair's name, but nothing is ever proven. And after many years a drunk in Starkaven is overheard complaining bitterly he was once a prince and a Grey Warden. It doesn't state Alistair is the drunk, but it's implied.

Yes, I think sometimes bits are missing. For instance, if you give Bella lots of money to leave Redcliffe, she's supposed to marry Bann Teagan - but that's never happened for me. (I know Kaitlyn can marry Teagan too but I prefer to give Bevin his sword rather than give her money).
Likewise, if Loghain kills the AD, you only get the Loghain statue if Anora isn't married to Alistair (but if he's executed, she'll build him a statue if Alistair is married to her or not...just no one visits it).

Wasn't he legally exiled so he can't return to Ferelden? At least while Anora's on the throne since she sees him as such a big threat.2 - Talk him into going back to Ferelden (Why? Depends on how the Blight ended, if Loghain still lives, if he was friendly/involved or even hostile with the PC Warden. Returning could be for revenge, closure or something else.)

No, his exile definitely looks self-imposed. Anora doesn't like the idea of him still being around, that's for sure, but she never comes close to saying he's banished.
Alistair says he has no choice about leaving, but I think that's his own perception rather than any edict of Anora's. He doesn't want to embrace Loghain as a brother, when he tried to take the crown he was shot down, and he's just been humiliated by the PC in front of the Landsmeet (so anyone who's anyone in Ferelden - that's a lot of ridicule he's open to, and this is the guy who didn't want people to know he was the 'bastard prince'). His reasons for wanting to leave and never return are understandable, to say the least.

No, she wants to execute him, but will agree not to as your "boon" that she owes you, so long as Alistair renounces any claim to the throne. He does so, then stalks off. She never says anything about exiling him, it seems like his choice to leave.
