I dont think any Bioware MMO is going to happen other than SWTOR.

If SWTOR fails... Bioware and EA just lost a ton of money trying to get into the MMO territory.
If SWTOR does well, then... well they wont need another MMO and theyre resources will be tied up in the one they already have making a profit.

Nothing against a DA MMO, as long as we don't get it INSTEAD of DA3 (*cough* KOTOR *cough*).

Never played a MMO, but I guess that, if well done (like TOR looks like) it can be fun. As long as we get proper single player closure for the DA saga.

You can't make a mmo out of a game that isn't canonical.
The only canons in game atm are, that the Warden defeated the Blight and Templar/Mage war happened. rest isn't
this isn't like Kotor transition to Kotor 2, where everything was set in stone.

Personally, I felt betrayed when BioWare turned "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" into an MMO.

Your asking about MMOs? Here? Really?

I think your trying to start a flame war. I personally love LOTRO. But an MMO for Dragon age? No... it's still to young, and tbh, MMOs die, Franchises live on even after they aren't being made.

It was ok for KOTOR, that game was already dead and it was a fine reboot. But as I said, it's WAY to early.

Good Lord, this thing is more zombie than a George Romero movie.

My reaction is a hefty, hefty no. Bioware needs to focus on getting the Star Wars MMO off the ground and running before trying to handle two MMO beasts at the same time. Its not even just a bad idea... its business suicide at this point.

Absolutely not.
No.
At best a multiplayer mode like Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale could be fun.

Don't really understand the fascination with mmo's myself. Every mmo I have tried has been the same, interesting landscape and repetitive, boring, gameplay. Its just the same old quests copy and pasted in different regions, which gives an illusion of a massively sized game. Two hundred hours of boredom in my opinion.

So no, I would not like to see Dragon Age turned into an mmo.

Wow, lots of nays.
Personally, I'd love to see a Dragon Age MMO.
Next to nothing would have to be changed. Everything's there, races, classes, specializations, skill trees. And the PC version is the closest thing to an MMO you could get without the online part.
It's a perfect universe for it, and has everything a perfect MMO needs, so I'd be on board.

No, I'd prefer no MMO.

One from Bioware is enough. Yes, the universe can be made to fit. So can the universe of neraly any game that has a sizable one. That doesn't mean it should be done. I can get on board with SWTOR, but I'm never going to be playing more than one MMO at once.

Reading this thread in it's entirety is sad.

Here BioWare is with a chance to truly expand their games using elements from another genre, to expand it's audience far and beyond what it currently has. To make their games fresh and not rely on the same old stuff that makes their cinematic EPIC, BUTTON AWESOME RPGs stale.

But surprise surprise we have people here arguing against progress and improvement because it's too "different" and "innovative" from what they're used to.

I'd really appreciate a strealined, innovative Dragon Age MMO and I'm sure that the millions outside of the forum would too.

An MMO is a good idea and one that BioWare needs to keep Dragon Age and their RPGs from becoming outdated and obsolete. **** the haters. Haters gonna hate regardless.

I wouldn't mind. Might actually be fun, if it was available for the PS3.

Do all MMOs have subscription fees? Or even subscriptions?

I'm not an MMO person. The most MMO I've ever gotten has been watching Leroy Jenkins and this video using an Amorphis song:

EDIT: Though for clarity, I'm opposed to multiplayer being in any DA game that isn't an MMO. MMO multiplayer I'm fine with. Multiplayer in something like DAO or DAII I'm not.

Better than then letting the game die it's not like Lucas Arts did anything with the franchise since Kotor II which they forced Obsidian to release too early and from what I have played the it's really fantastic and probably the best thing from Bioware since Kotor. Such good environments, music, combat, crafting and multiplayer goodness and not let me not forget the amazing voice over talent. Solid ****ing Snake as a Jedi Knight and Malcom Reynolds as a Smuggler!!

Guild Wars says hello.

and every single other MMO says hello.

seriously though, What makes you think that they would remove the Subscription Fees?

it's not impossible, but very much unlikely.

NO, NO, NO........ If they want to make another MMO, then start something new. I play BW games for the single player experience. I still want KOTOR 3 and I also feel betrayed by TOR.

So NO... to MMO

How are they going to make DA3 then? can you import your Warden AND Hawke? Come on.<br />

MMO is the best choice.

No.

I've played DAO/DAA several times to get my Warden just how I want her (ie side quests and such all going the way I want), specifically for use in importing to DA2 and beyond. I've done the same with DA2, although I generally feel that DA2 has a higher replay value for me since I can complete it in half the time. I have a lot invested in the Warden and Hawke. I like them both and enjoyed both of their games.

That said, having another game doesn't have to involve our same PC. If I see them again, well that's GREAT, especially if I get to see some of my choices reflected in the new import, but in the end it doesn't matter that much to me.

What I want from Bioware concerning Thedas is more story, SINGLE PLAYER content that has a beginning, middle, and end. Where you don't have to worry about waiting for a quest NPC to respawn because some person killed him 10 seconds before you got there, where you don't have to worry about PVP getting in your face while you're minding your own business, where you can actually BE the real hero of the story and not know that there are thousands of other heroes on your server doing the same thing.

I've played World of Warcraft for six years. Before that, I played a Korean MMO for two years. I played in the SWToR beta. I like MMOs for what they are and what they can be, but I DO NOT want Dragon Age to be turned into an MMO.

As an example of the "hero" story being spoiled by the MMO format: during this last SWToR beta weekend I made a Jedi knight. You have a Master who sees potential in you for whatever reason and decides to take you on as Padawan, the first he has had in a long while. During other quests, NPCs are remarking about your specialness and so forth. While it IS fun overall, the whole "hero" thing falls a bit flat when I know that every other Jedi knight player is going through the exact same quest, with the exact same Master, and hearing the same lines from the NPCs. It all seems a bit fake and non-immersive. Perhaps because it feels so much like a Bioware game in terms of character interaction, voice acting, and the lovable new dialogue wheel -- only in MMO format -- that something seems missing.

Also, in SWToR they have these PC only zones where you are on certain quests or talk to certain NPCs, so you don't see other people if you aren't grouped with them, which I found really interesting. However, that illusion is shattered when I see the other players running by me toward their own PC story zone and then vanish.

As for Dragon Age, sure, I know thousands of other people are playing the game as I am, perhaps half of them have also romanced Alistair and Fenris, but I don't have to see them. I can ignore their existence if I want. It's a bit hard to do that in an MMO when other players with the same companion NPCs are standing next to the same quest giver talking to him/her.

With Guild Wars, since I wasn't very interested in PVP, I played most of the same solo, and was able to do all except 3-4 missions alone (with AI companions). There is a really fun/interesting story campaign in the original game, and because towns are the only places where you interact with other people, the story immersion is a bit better. Once you kill enemies on a map they stay dead unless you re-zone.

World of Warcraft also introduced phasing in their last expansion, which they have perfected in this expansion, allowing the changes to the world you make through quests to be permanent. This advancement has really helped with the story as well, but the MMO feeling is still there.

All of these MMOs are entertaining but they are still MMOs. An MMO's primary function is to exist as long as possible to bring in a lot of money from it's subscribers. In order to do that the developers at some point have to either (1) keep developing new content, OR (2) design the game in a more open ended way where there really isn't an end to work toward (ie killing the main boss of an expansion). I would rather our DA writers just focus on the story of a single game, do that really well, and not have to worry about short changing one thing or the other because they know they will have to write the plot of a new patch in six months.
